I'm starting some new seeds and they've popped just fine, but when I opened their dome this morning I noticed a vaguely sour smell.

It's humid in there and it seems the smell is coming from the rockwool cubes.

Is this unusual? I soaked the rockwool to fix the ph, buit I didn't think I needed to sterilize them (they are new cubes).

Should I be concerned?

Can I treat the little ones with h2o2 or something? If so, how strong a dose?

Thanks

When you say sour you mean like maybe sticky feet type or locker room type smell??

Take the dome off and check the temps. Let the rockwool dry out some.
Sounds like a mouldy smell.

Yeah that's it locker room is a good analogy. It doesn't smell like a mold (not that I'm an expert in mold smells).

It hasn't gotten any stronger, but it's still there. The seedlings seem happy so far.

I'm gonna take off the dome and let things dry a bit, see if tht helps.

Thanks

yup for some reason I remember that smell. switch to Rapid Rooters and smell goes away, possible salt issues go away and they root faster
