Well i was driving home with my mom from guitar tonight, and we were talking about school and then go to health class and how we're learning about MJ. She rambled off the usual "It leads to harder drugs, it kills your brain and memory, it makes people unmotivated and ruins their lives", but then i told her all the things i've read from the untold story and other websites i've read, and she just sat back trying to comprehend it all. Then i planted the question on her..... "so did you ever do it?" After a good laugh she said "well i lived in the 70's....." and left it at that. Now my sister got suspended from school for it, and my parents obviously knew she did it a lot, but they never yelled at her or anything. I asked them why they made a fuss when i've never tried it yet, and she says "well your sister was discreet about it". I told her "would you rather have me be up front like this, or hide everything i do from you and keep secrets". She realized being up front was better, and she just said "I just don't want you to be the stereotypical pothead." It was crazy how she went along with it, realizing im going to do it, and yet it was so calm, i was expecting a freak out. It was great.

Heh, I remember when I came out to my mother. I was in the 9th grade and told her that I smoked pot. Given my unique circumstances (Long stories), she sort of "turned an eye."

Im like that with my teens, they dont seem so excited to be into it. I think if you dont make a big deal of it than they think its not a big deal.

My parents sort of see it as, he's going to it either way - behind our back whether we say yes or no. And since ALL my freinds at school do it - even whilst in school they allow me to, however I can't be seen by them at all (they don't like it), and my sis is too young and niave about the world to want to see it.
Thinking about it, it is very logical, I mean wouldn't you want your kids to tell you whether they've smoked or not, also if you're open about drugs with your parent they can give you their opinions and such.
NB: This is the UK, I'm not sure USA parents would agree with all the fear and drug propaganda over there.

Sounds like you have a level-headed mother. Parents are not stupid, but I don't think most kids talk to their parents like you did. Good luck! :)
