In the begining I just hung 1000 watt bulbs vertical. the socket was attatched to a piece of white sheet metal "sides of clothes dryer 3'sq." a lot of reflected light off the white walls of the room made the room seem bright.

Now I use air cooled horizontal 6" ducted reflectors with glass bottoms, they are the deep style Sun Systems. No light any higher up the walls than 5' and the room just seems dimmer, even with the bright areas near the center of the room.

my ques. is this Which do you think is really brighter and better for growing. I have read/heard all the sales hipe.
what is folks opinions

Can't give you any answer from experience Daddy but you would think there would be a difference since they make bulbs to run in either specific position

Your reflector is helping reflect alot of light to the plants area but from what I understand the vertical light is like putting an extra bulb in the room. Much more direct light than reflected light. There is a big difference.

so would it be safe to guess the horizontal bulbs are designed to reflect off of a reflector and vertical is designed to reflect off objects like walls and such??

i have had conversation about this before...the glass in any reflector will always cut down some of the effective light so a bare bulb is about 10% brighter without the glass lens of the reflector

I got 6" Horiz setup w/ glass bottom, I never really thought of it but maybe you remove glass on your next grow & see if you see the diffrence. Let us know what your finding, I'm curious myself.
