Back in the day, I grew cannabis out doors in Florida. Back then it was all sativa. When they would sprout, the leaves would be comming out with leaves like this. 1 blade, 3 blades, 5 blades and so on.

Now I got this one growing that looks to be indica or a cross. Its first leaves came with 3 blades. The next set has 7 blades. From 3 to 7 just like that.

Is that normal for indica? Is it normal for crosses? Am I even normal asking such a question? :D

I don't know if that would be something desired or no. The only good I can figure it would have is more leaves maybe making it grow faster cause it can produce more food from light because of increased leaf area.

What's your take on it?

The greatest correlation I see to leaflet count is plant size, regardless of sativa or indica. The bigger and faster the growth, the greater the leaf count, and I have seen as many as 11 leaves. Skips in count are common if grown in 'hot' soils.

seems right on. im using miracle gro and i went from single bladed leaves straight to 5 blades. biggest leaves I have have 11 blades but some nodes above the 11 bladed leaves only put out 10 or 9 not sure why but growth is still vigorous.

This may be the reason for the blade count to decrease.

"The number of blades on each leaf begins to decline during the middle of the vegatative stage. Then the arrangement of the leaves on the stem (phyllotaxy) changes from the usual opposite to alternate."

WashougalWonder, what do you mean by "Hot Soil"? Is that soil with a lot of nutes, or is that simply soil that is has a high temperature?

Pepurr i have noticed this when growing different indica and sativa strains. I had a sativa that went up in odd numbers, 1,3,5,7,9 was kinda cool!

I thought they always go in odd numbers. My point was that it went 1,3,7 instead of 1,3,5,7. It skipped the 5 blade. Can't remember one doing that before. It's been so many years sense I grew any (29 of them), I forget a lot of junk. Heck! Sometimes I can't remember what I did 5 min ago, let alone 29 years. :D

I think you may have misunderstood my question. Hope this clears things up.

I think I found out what "Hot Soil" is. Soil with an abundance of nitrogen. ;)

Lots of fertilizer, chicken guano, bat guano, stuff that is potent.

My soil is hot, I guess. It has nutes in it that are supposed to be released in responce to heat. It says it will feed plants for up to 9 months. This has been a little problem I think. Seems I am getting a little nute burn. My hopes are that as the plant grows, it will be able to better handle the nutes.

Some of my seedlings seem to bare the high nutes better than others. The ones that do well live. The ones that don't get executed as spys. Bru Ha Ha Ha!:p

i used to use miracle grow soil religiously for years, until i got some and used it, and it burned the shit out of my plants, and then, after the fact i noticed they changed the formula from feeding for 90 days to feeding for 6 months. whatever they did they made it to damn hot for cannabis, plus they took some of the pealite out.. luckily i noticed it early enough and repotted them in G&B blue ribbon soil. that stuff is the SHIT.

I've seen plants where there were many 1 bladed leaves on the plant and some of them even grew in a spiral. Not sure what caused it because other plants of the same strain in the same conditions were healthy as horses.
