Hi

I have suffered from depression for many years. I have been taking medications ( currently wellbutrin and lexapro) but they don't work all the time and sometimes not at all. I think my depression was initially caused by my life situations, but it is here to stay now.

I have avoided smoking because it use to give me anxiety. Lately I have been experimenting with trying to alleviate some of my anxiety and depressio n by smoking a little with my friends.

I now find that I usually get short term relief, but about two days later without smoking and I'm worse than ever.

The bottom line is that I'm sick of being miserable and if anyone has had the same experience as mine. Also, I know different strains have different effects, so what can I try ?

I live in a state that does allow medical marijuana and want to approach my doctor about it, as I also have a history of chronic pain that I have suffered with periodically my whole life.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks:D

For the majority of people its almost impossible to be depressed while toking.
Being an old bastard things start falling apart and the smoke really helps me deal with the day to day anxiety and depression of getting old.
I still believe it is one of the greatest of benefits of the plant and all this talk of trying to remove the high from MMJ is just nonsense.
Some people though get anxiety attacks from certain strains. I did myself once. It was the first anxiety attack I'd ever had with over 40 years of smoking. A different strain will usually fix it.

I would recommend the following:

High Quality Fish Oil (Purified of heavy metals and toxins)
Vitmain B supplement

Fish oil is clinically proven to be effective in mild to moderate depression however it can take 4-6 weeks to really take an effect. Plus it's good for the heart.

Vitamin B is great for stress and also helps with anxiety.

If you can safely get off the pharmaceuticals with the supervision of your doctor then i would go with St. Johns Wort instead it has a component called Hyperforins that are in New Chapters St John's Wort extract that are effective as an SSRI. Just make sure not to take them when on any other anti deppreseant as they can interact negatively. Again takes 4-6 weeks for the effect to build. I would also take this at night as it can make you tired.

I've been on both these supplements with good results and no noticeable side effects.

The most effective thing to do though is get 30-45 minutes of moderate to intense cardio exercise a day. The chemicals released in the process are just as effective as ANY anti-deppresant.

As far as managing depression with Cannabis I would recomend a high quality Sativa Tincture which i think can be administered more routinely in any environment as you'll want to find a good level that works but doesn't effect you with doing what you need to. Start small and work your way up.

Good luck.

well i have suffered from serious depression for the last two years, probly just because of my situation. but im a mmj patient and have tried many different strains that would help numb my chronic pain, i found out that a sativa dominant just makes me super parinoid and raises the level of my anxiety and keeps my head running 100 mph. it realy does nothing for me at all. i found that a realy strong indica dominant realy relieves all of this, it makes me start feeling happy as soon as it hits, numbs my pain the best, and gives me the body high that im looking for to relax my mind and keeps me more clear headed. no more depression, no more anxiety, and no more pain. people will tell you different strains to try, but i can tell you its not a sativa your after. if you can find, try a realy good afgani or purp kush, BB, big bud, or humbolt. these high indica dominants have been my weapon of choice and have never let me down. good luck, hope this helps
