Big time grats!
I have never used hydro method before, but am interested. Yesterday while in Albuquerque, I stopped by that hydro shop on San Mateo. They got so many goodies in there. I want to buy up everything. Oops! No money. :D
Hope you do a grow log. It will be cool to watch your future babies grow.:hippy:

started my legal grow bout a month ago and i am two wks into veg on a multi bucket deep water culture system, 400 w digital balast using a full line of advanced nutrients. Plants are about a foot tall at this point, perfectly green, all feminised cannabis cup winners. It is an awesome experience, congrats med mama.....advice: check your ph and adjust accordingly every day! Advanced nutrients are amazing and they are coming out with a new line of nutrients at the end of july that make it where one doesn't have to adjust ph or ppms at all. Good luck med mama....I'll show pics of my girls at some point.

hey mama, i started out in soil, but switched to coco after that. i did pretty good in soil, but prefer hydro. to me, i feel more in control of things in coco. things happen more quickly in hydro, i like that. what type of system did you get?

Used it before,it's not nearly as forgiving as organic growing. Hope you got a Parts Per Million meter and a PH meter. Good luck!

i made a few of those, and donated them when i lived in oregon. they work well, but can be a little work. the main problem is usually, the tub is too smal for the amount of plants feeding out of it. if you have 6 plants feeding/drinking out of an 8 gallon (will be less) bubbler, you can expect wild ph swings. the tub will start filling up with roots, then there will be even less room for water. another thing that can be a problem is draining and cleaning the tub. there are 2 schools of thought, some drain and clean weekly, others wait 2 weeks. personally, i'd do it weekly. you can see how this can get labor intensive. ideally, you'd want 2 tubs so you could just swap one for the other. another thing that can become a real issue is keeping the rez/tub temps. down in the summer. this can cause problems quick. easily solved if you buy a chiller, but they are very expensive. some folks freeze plastic bottles of water and drop them in the tub. only problem there is, it'll raise the level of the tub if you need to use several, so in a smaller tub, it wold happen quick. if you keep the tub in a room with very low ambient temps. you'd prob. do o.k. what i'd do is use the one coming as a model and buy a 30 gallon tub from wally mart. it's a little work, but you could pretty much utilize most of the stuff coming. you prob. don't need a hydro book. i'd bet a shiny nickel that adequate instructions are included with what's coming. from there, you just need to learn how to control ph, and adjusting ppm's in feeding. it sounds more complicated than it is.

I do Hydroponics and am sold on it completely. I have had very good results with my EQ; 400MH and a 2x4 Ebb/Flow Garden for vegging and a 400HPS and a 3x3 garden for flowering, which I got a Homebox tent for.
Cool is right, its not as forgiving but if you can monitor your garden daily, it rocks.
I had pump connection go out on me in my flowering box yesterday, the plants looked really bad. 10 minutes after feeding started, they looked great again.

As soon as the nice fed ex guy drops it off i will get it going and i will take pics...nate: that there is a chance that my plants will look bad for a little while i am going to be transfering from soil to hydro so there is going to be alot of shock for them so they could lose leaves and discolor but! they will recover. I plan on babying them like crazy... everytday i will be checking things and we have a spare bin for the days i need to clean. We are also doing our veggies in them (not the same box and the mj ) come june so you may also see pics of the veggies also. I love gardening who knew putting a seed in the soil and a week later life apears. It is down right fasinating and this little country girl is ready to start a farm.

Hi there--
I may be wrong on this but I wouldn't recommend going from soil to hydro. You might be better off starting with some rockwool cubes which are inexpensive and very forgiving with regards to overwatering.

Mama,
One thing you "might" want to consider is when transplanting from soil to the Hydro, you really should make sure that the roots are totally free from soil....otherwise you might just get some junk in your plumbing that could cause you some problems.
Just a thought...
Congrats again on the equipment and your grow!:)

I got the package yesterday...was a little disapointed in the size i was expecting a little bit of a bigger box, but all in all it is a cool little box. I currently have it up and running moved my 6 plants in it and they all look great So far the stress looks minimal but i am sure we will find out in a few days how they will really do. i took some pictures last nite right after they were transplanted and i will take some more tonite afrter the 24 hour mark and then i will do that every 24 hours just to see how they are either progressing or not. Either tonite or tomorrow i will post pictures for everyone to see. But i am not sure how to do that? Can some one point me in the right direction....budbook pals i will post the pics on there as well. Thanks for all the advice and input even though it is not always good i will always take what you all say and learn from it and my own mistakes. I love this gardening stuff it is so awesome to watch things grow. Last nite after the kids were asleep and the plants had about an hour left on thier timer i sat there in my stoner chair (papasan) and just watched the plants and they are truely fasinating (the fact that i was stoned could of helped with the fasination but it was a very relaxing night.

Welcome to wonderful world of hydro. I am new to the forum but have been growing the greens for years. You say you used swag seeds? From my experience it is about a 90/10 split on how good the end results will be. 90% is how you grow it and 10% is the genetics of the plant. Any marry Jane seed even some nasty swag can make one fine end product if you give it the right attention. When they grow the nasty seedy stuff the seeds are just tossed in a field and left to grow. No one sexes them and kills the males or gives them any love at all. Really the best stuff I ever grew came from some back yard boogy woogy and it come was the bomb when it was done. The 2 plants got about 8' tall and I got about 40 oz of finished product. I have gone from soil to hydro many times and some things that really helped my plants for stress are to use Dyna-Gro Pro-Tekt in the water and Higromite for the medium. Also as stated make sure to rinse the roots off and remove an soil also be very careful not to hurt the roots, the more ripped roots the more shock. Some hydrogen peroxide can also help keep the roots happy after moving from soil but be very careful as it can cause chemical burns if handled incorrectly. I have found starting seeds in Jiffy Peat Plugs or Oasis Rootcubes to work better than rockwool then transplanting to 4? rockwool cubes after the root start to pop out of the plugs and then into the hydro system. Good luck and enjoy!

Afrer i make a box on my own i will take video or step by step pics so yall can see it but that wont be till after the 18 of next month. Today i plan on getting a bigger bin and switching everything from the samller bin to the bigger. I fear that the plants are to crowded and the bigger bin will give them all more room. I think the words "Grow Light" on a package isn't the end all of lights. You can probably get lights with the properties you need, at much lesser of a price.
If you go to Home Depot or something, I bet you can find the lights you need, at a much lower price.
Just pay attention to things like warmth (6500K and such), lumens and junk like that there.

I used those on my last grow. They don't tear or wrinkle up like foil. The only problem is they tend to trap heat. I had to throw in an extra fan to keep the temps down.

Thats my smoking spot right next to the door so we have a nice aluminum bat chillin in case any stupid fuck wanders up. We have had that bat at the door in the same spot for over 4 years.
Mouse yeah it is a mirror a friend helped my husband and is helping us build the new room and he had this bright idea to put a mirror in there why i dont know but he did, and i am unable to move it on my own so i just leave it. It is kinda helpful when i am looking over the plants because i can see the back ones without having to move anything. But this weekend the mirror and the reflective will all be replaced by a grow room.

Hi everyone sorry for the long delay. Been a crazy few weeks. Alot has happened. We completed the room got the new light and have started to flower. I held off on taking pictures for a a week becasue they got stressed by the moving we had to do to build the room. But they are looking better and loving the new light. I have not been able to 100% sex them yet. Really i havent seen any males pop out yet so maybe i am lucky and they are all females!?!
Within the room the temps are around the low 70's we have a 600w hps light in there on a 12/12 cycle. There is also a airconditioner in the room to help regulate the temps.
Well at the moment i dont have any questions but comments and suggestions always welcome.

What methods do you use to keep your garden in compliance? Since we cannot have more than 4 maturing plants, I use a lot of pruning/cloning.

We cannot have more than 4 MATURE plants, not "maturing".
"S. "Mature Plant" means a harvestable female marijuana plant that is flowering and is greater than twelve inches in height AND(emphasis added) twelve inches in diameter."

it has been a little while since i updated on here. There has been a big change since the last post. We found one male out of the 5 i had chopped him down and put him in a box to dry. I will use him for oil. Both my gods gift are females and looking so so pretty. One got a little top heavy and was kind of leaning so i went out to get some wooden dowels. The other two i have are just bag seed and one completely fell over luckily she didnt snap. Did a quick fix and stood her back up with some dowels. She looks good now.
My backyard ladies are looking good as well defiantly have plumped up alot since the last pic of them.

Howdy mama, by chance do you have a fan on your indoor girls? The air from the fan helps to strengthen the stems so they won't bend or break like that. another option is to LST them. That's usually my method. It works out great and you get more than one cola plus all of the buds get plenty of light. :)
Your girls are gorgeous by the way. :p

As the plant grows you tie it down horizontally so that plant is forced to grown up and the lower leaves are given as much light as the higher ones. As the plant grows you continue to tie it down around the rim of your pot. It creates multiple colas and bigger buds. L.S.T. = low stress training.
This method is a must if you want to grow sativas indoors. Unless you have 11 foot high ceilings. :p

Just an update.....found the last male and chopped him down i have a total of 5 gods gift now and 2 unknown or what i call BS (bag seed). The gods gift are tall due to the strecthing that was due to not the proper lighting. Lighting issue is fixed as stated in a previous post. The buds are so pretty and full of pretty white hairs. I am going to mess with my camera this weekend and adjust the resolution so you can see the hairs better.
I also have 2 BS in the backyard in soil mushroom compost got it at walmart $1.74 a bag (not sure size) and let me tell you it is some good stuff they love it and so do my veggies. Mixed some perlite and vermiclite (prob spelt that wrong) in with it. I tell you this because my soil grow has been kinda a side deal and wasnt to concerned with the out come but yesterday i noticed that one of them has 9 fingered leaves. I thought that was so awesome i have never seen a 9 fingered leaf. I am not going to change anything with them like adding nutes or anything these are being grown buy soil water and the great new mexico sun. I am wondering though if that is a sign of something? Any input would be great pics of her are below.

Don't use it in a hydro system, if that is what you have. It will gum up the works and make a mess of it all.

I am using hydro. Some may not like the next thing i say but this time around i am not going to use nutrients. We have taken a $700 pay cut a month so we really cant even afford to think about buying anything. It sucks and thats life. This was my first grow so i really just wanted to see how the plant grew and acted before i start nutrients. I am doing the same with my veggie garden. I have never grown anything before so this is my way of teaching myself. Come sept. i will be getting all the nutrients that i will need and an additional light.

The ones i have in the back are loving the outdoors. My 9 fingered beauty is still 9 fingers, big and bushy. She is gonna be nice come flowering time. If you look at the bottom of her picture there is a bic light for a size reference.

I would start flowering that big outdoor plant soon, unless it is sativa dominant.
You can use a tarp to give it only 12 hours of light every 24 hours.

Hi everyone. Sorry about the lack of posting it has been almost like hell in my body for the past monthish and havent really felt like talking to anyone (even my hubby and kids). Im not feeling better but i am also up like an hour early today and have nothing to do, cant fall back asleep either.
I took some pictures yesterday morning of my ladies. They are all looking so good. I am truely impressed for my first attempt. Now that i know wtf i am doing i cant wait till next grow.
Off topic question: I am going to be buying some seeds here soon and i am looking for a strain that is a uplifting energetic high that also helps with pain. I cant have a strain that locks me to the couch. I am a full time mommy and a full time student so i cant veg out on the couch. The "Happier" i am the easier my day goes. So my question is to everyone (please more then one person answer) What is my ideal strain? I have gone through the seeds on attitude.com and wow there is so many and i dont even know the difference between indica or stativa or the others. So please help a sista out. Lol i have been wanting to use that phrase for a while...so not me.
Any ways back to my lovely ladies. I havent measured them so i dont know how tall they are i am going to guess around 3 ft. The buds are looking pretty dense and full of flowers. With pretty white crystals all over. The crystals dont look quite done to me but i could be wrong. Thats why i took pictures. I got as close as i could without my camera going out of focus.
My backyard grow started flowering this last weekend. My 9 fingered lady is big and bushy and is going to yeild nicely cant wait.
I really dont have any issues with my plants things are running pretty smoothly.
Thank you all for reading Hope you enjoy!

It means that the leaves are curled upwards on the edges due to heat stress or some other stress because they try to take in moisture and can't get it quickly enough to compensate for the heat.

I have a thermometer in the room hanging at the plant level. Lack of nutrients could of been an issue i ran out of nutrients half way through flowering and due to the lack of money we have not been able to replace the nutrients.
I sampled some of the gods gift yesterday and the high i got from it was perfect so with much debate (with myself) i have harvested my beautiful ladies. I am really picky about the type of high it gives me so i felt it was better to harvest now rather then let them go all the way and have the couch lock affect. I dont have a scale so i dont know how much it all totaled to but i did take pictures. (will load them up a little later)
I had some plants outside that started to flower due to some shade that i wasnt expecting so i transfered them into the grow room and i am letting them finish flowering. In a few weeks when Swop has the clones ready i will be moving things around so i can veg those and still be able to flower the others.

Yeah, it's not at all uncommon. Once the plants are starting to roll in, it's easier to be disciplined and have patience and let the plants mature. Eek, you know what they say about immature buds: A waste is a terrible thing to mind.

Ive done soil for about 20 years or so. Always wanted to try hydro or soiless medium.....just never had. I have always been under the impression that you cant grow as big of plants, it takes more time and watching over, and you get a chemically taste? I don't know, never done it. My friends that do seem to grow smaller plants, and say its quicker, but to me its just quick cause they start flowering them sooner than I do. I let them get bigger because i have the room. So I start mine flowering later, so that means they will finsh later. They end up much bigger than the drip plants and hydro plants, and the amount of bud is much more. Any other imput is appreciated. For some reason, I just like playing in the dirt. One of my first mentors was BOG...bogglegum, lifesaver, and so on. He grew and grows in dirt, so I figured that was the way to go.

Everything is looking awesome. Cant wait till they are done. In the pictures i am just showing the gods gift the others are still small buds and i think that was due to the light being so far away so i moved them closer to the light. They should be a little happier now.
The ones i have in the back are loving the outdoors. My 9 fingered beauty is still 9 fingers, big and bushy. She is gonna be nice come flowering time. If you look at the bottom of her picture there is a bic light for a size reference.
As always comments question and advice always welcome.
Enjoy!
Hey mama, how did your plant outside do compared to your first hydroponic grow indoors? is she still going.. or did you harvest her yet?
Looking at your last hydroponic system, it looked different than the one in this thread.. were u using the bubble buckets from SH the second time around.

Well that one beautiful plant that was outdoors never was able to finish. My little man decided it was time to harvest my whole entire garden flowers and all and ripped everything out of the ground (this was a few months ago) and i tried to save everything and for a while that big beauty was doing ok but i dont think she could completely recover because she ended up dying.
The SH bucket was crap so we use it as a storage bin now.
My 2nd attempt went horrible everything died. I am making a trip to AHL today to get some stuff to get some seeds going. I will post pics and everything after i know they have taken to the setup and i know they are not going to up and die on me. I have come to the conclusion that for some reason i cant get clones to stay alive i do everything the same but all my clones died. Very aggravating i also gave up and tore everything down after i lost my last clone, but i am going to do everything the way i did it the first time and hopefully i will be successful. It has been an extremely stressful couple of months we are planning a move in march so i am hoping i can get something going soon so i can harvest right before we leave.

yeah those big buckets with the hydro tron, I just saw that if you have some hydro then might as well use it, hydro can be easy if you have already done it, what kind of EC and Ph meter do you have or do you just change you res every week? thats what usually scares people away the fact that their gonna need both and their expensive, and require solutions and cleaners etc.
I just saw that nice hood you need a fan and some 25 dollar insulated duct from Lowe's for it they now sell big clamps so no more duct tape. those can fans are too expensive, they now have a ac computer type fan that is amazing and wastes very little energy Ill post a link (if you order form china you can get one of these for 19 dollars but it is not wired so some more is needed), I totally recommend mounting this on their, not on the hood but on the intake duct somewhere. also it looks like you have a nice 6" on the hood just go 6"all the way not smaller.

for seeds to germ in the past I have used the paper towel method, or just putting a little moist soil in a bag will work too, mist the bag a little too. I also herd rapid rooters are great for seed germ I have never used them for germ (I can see how they would be good though cause you just throw the seed in there and time and gravity do the rest). In the past I cloned have cloned in rapid rooters, they are nice and easy, but most cloning I have done successfully were in rock wool, they even make a round plug made for cloning . It has a slit down the middle of the entire plug so you can get the clone in their and it seals well, but some string or garden wire is need to keep them closed. but all in all Mama I recommend watching this guys cloning videos he is the best cloner of cannabis on the plant as far as I have seen. but keep in mind you will not be able to keep mother plants like does so your process will be allot different, but allot will also be the same. take a look at the rapid rooters and the rock wool round clone plugs, for cloning, but importantly follow the way this guy takes cuttings, the way you put it in the rock wool cube will be different, especially if you uses a round plug type with the slit down the middle, which is what I recommend and remember to treat your rock wool for 24 hours at 5.5.

pic or vid of the little round rock wool plugs, the ones in the middle with the string tied around them, those are the ones made for cloning
