my friend started a La confidential back in jan. It has been in veg since. He now put it outside. He placed it in a 5 gallon bucket. The plant stands about 3 feet tall and has 18 main leaders or colas.(from topping) It is a fem. so what i want to know is ,will it need a bigger pot to grow in ? It should veg for atleast till july i would think due to his location. i was thinking o having him upgrade to a 10 gallon container. I just feel the 5 wont big enough because of the amout of daylight. it will get root locked before it starts to flower. what ya think?

The plant wil want abot da same amount of space for roots as the area it takes up above ground, so the bigger the pot the better and it will develop better in flowering, just imagine the bigger the space it has to grow the bigger it will get=more yield! It wil defo wana grow more during flowering:jointsmile:

Yes ,bigger the better. I had a girl in a large bucket last year because I thought I could move it round and keep it in the sun but it grew so big I couldn't lift it and ended up not being able to get it out of the pot to put in the ground. So do it before it gets too much bigger.

If i were him id start it out in the 5 gallon and then about, or close to July, id cut the bottom off and then put it in the ground. The plant will fill the 5 gallon space, then after amending the ground with good soil, id cut the bottom off with a tool you would put on a drill like a drumael<not sure what its called, but then id stack it on the amended soil and let it grow into the ground for flowering. Let it stretch its roots to flourish.
Plants like to grow into a pot and then fill out another. Like dmcefc said, they fill the below ground, then above, so let the 5 do its thing, but then let the roots free to flower her, cuz they will. And this will help yield more IMO then just putting it straight in the ground. I like to re pot 2-3 times before i put them in the ground. Builds a great root structure faster.
That what id do:rasta:

it went from a 3 gallon about 2 weeks ago into the 5. The ground is no option since it is sitting on a remote rock cliff area. i think we will put into a large container in a month or so. Like one of those tubs you put a keg of beer in. I want to help him make this thing a giant.

daylight at 6am and dark around 8:30pm so like 14 1/2, also while inside it got 16-18 a day then adjusted to fit in outside.

A normal plant will bud at 12/12. Right now it is getting 14 + hours a day and the days are still getting longer. No disrespect, but I think a July harvest is a not going to happen thing, unless you put her into darkness for a couple of hours a day.
The good news is that you will indeed get your giant. Bad news is you will harvest her in October. I would plan for at least two more transplants into bigger pots.
Also remember that Calif will soon dry out. If you can see that plant from ANYWHERE it will stand out because chances are it will be a big green blob against a dried out background.
Good Luck and I hope I'm wrong.:wtf:

Well it will out grow the 5 soon because its so big im sure. He could still cut the bottom off and put it in the container you are talking about. Indoor growers will do this sometime right before flower to give that extra burst for the roots to grow out. Which leads to larger yield. If being seen is a problem, if ya do cut the bottom off an use the larger one, just stack it on there side ways and it wont stick out so much. The growth will just shoot up towards the sun any way you plant it. What a scrog that could be. Good luck:jointsmile:

We planned on a fall harvest. we will just use common sense and make sure the roots will have room . not worried about being sighted. medical grow..

Well if ya see the leaves droop, it would be time. But its not been in the 5 long, so it may get ya through. If need to iv seen people stack em and they did well.
Good luck bro:rasta:
