So I have been a regular bud smoker for goin on 4 years now. Since the day I started, I would have to say the longest break I ever took was 2 weeks, besides that would smoke multiple times every day. But this January, for a few different reasons, I decided to take a break and havent smoked in 4 months now.
I am very glad I took this long break, and for a few reasons. Me being a huge advocate of bud and known for smoking all day every day, I think this helped greatly in showing everyone around me, and myself, that weed really isnt addictive.
I was also able to go out and find some new hobbies that I now love because their really wasn't anything else to do when not smoking.
Most importantly, I really learned how much I love the herb. Through this what seemed like a lifetime of not smoking, I always thought about it, and just the fact that it was such a big part of my life and made me so happy and made everything so much better, but I can stop doing it with no side effects, how many things can you say the same about?
And in 2 weeks I am going to take that first hit again, and I honestly cant even imagine what it is going to be like. I remember taking week breaks for tolerances, but I dont know what to expect this 4 month break will do to me, I wonder if it will be like my first time smoking again.
I was planning on the first time to be with a group of friends outside or something, but the more I think about it I honestly think Im just going to roll a nice J and smoke it to myself outside at night and chill at my house.
Sorry for the rant, I am just extremely excited for this day to come, and wanted to share. And if anyone has any similar experiences, please share!

I like your idea of breaking your "fast" alone and at night. Minimizing distractions should allow you to really enjoy your high.

I always seem to go through months where my connections dry up.
It's always nice to get that first high after taking a long break. It's so intense and it puts me into such a good mood.
Hope you enjoy it!

My advice is when you start again keep it mellow, learn some discipline. I have a few ounces curring right now and 3 grams of bubble hash. I have not smoked in a week. I do not know, just my advice.

I took about a 6 month break when I was on probation last year and then blazed with some of my boys, only took a couple rips out of the bowl and I felt like a marijuana virgin all over again. In other words I got fucking ripped.
:smokin: I think I might take a break now, too. its always good to completely quit for a while.

I am on one of those breaks now and am not smoking until I harvest which wont be for a while because I am not even flowering yet. :D
The first hit after a few months off is amazing!

yea the last break I took was for a month and a half I would be stoned after a couple hits of some decent bud. I could make a gram really last rolling up baby joints. also made me realize how your tolerance rises according to how you smoke. If you smoke joints w/a gram in them everytime you smoke your tolerance with sky rocket when you start up again.. if you pace yourself your tolerance will rise slowly.

I quit for nine years simply because I was too damn busy and needed to keep the image up and to focus on my job.
One day I got into an argument with my wife. I was just beside myself. I was hateful and needed to get out of the house.
I went to my room and found a joint the was NINE YEARS OLD, jumped on the tractor and headed for a spot in the woods where I could be alone. I smoked the dried out, crumbly mess and didn't get high. aarrgghh
I sat there for a few minutes and decided I had to head back to the house. En-route back, I began to get a buzz... by the time I got back, I was singing old Beatle tunes and thinking life was pretty darn good!
The long break was an absolute must, but the little buzz was even more of an absolute must.

I'm in the process of taking a long break too, due to many different circumstances in my life. I'm on day 35 of my fasting and it feels great but I look forward to the day when I will fire up my Volcano once again. Just for shits and giggles, I gave myself one of those First Check home drug tests yesterday and I still came up positive, even though I run 4-5 days a week, 3-4 miles each day...so that just goes to show how concentrated THC was in my system. I think everyone needs to take a break after prolonged use for so many years...it gives your brain a breath of fresh air, which for me, was long overdue. Congrats on your desire and will to stop for so long and I hope you enjoy that first high...I'm sure it will be just as good as the first time all over again. :hippy:

...was what helped me to find out that I have arthritis.
When I first moved to Metropolis, due to financial constraints I had to stop smoking for a couple of months. I went to my doctor when things started hurting, he noticed the Heberden's Nodes on my fingers (I just thought that they were annoying bumps), and mentioned that they were an indicator of Arthritis.
About four visits later, I put the paperwork in front of him, he signed it, and then began the insane five-month wait while Health Canada f'd around with the paperwork (should have only taken three months, but there was a minor discrepancy on the paperwork that they had to re-check).
But the first few doobs I had once I was 'back' were insaaaaane :) Sigh. Even with a two-month break it took something like three or five doobies before my Chronicus Maximus tolerance started to reassert itself :(
Taking an occasional 'break' is not a Bad Thing (tm). But not too long a break... ;)

wow, some of you guys have alot of will power! I've quit alot of things in my life, but ganja has never been one of them! I give myself breaks when I'm sleeping and the 9 hours I'm at work.....after that, it's doobie time!
The only time I can remember in over a decade that I've gone without smoking weed was when I traveled to Italy! But that was for 2 weeks, then I went to Amsterdam....so it was worth it!!

I had to quit at one point for about 6 months last year because I was trying to get custody of my kids, and cps was involved because of their mother being a drug abuser(things other than mary jane). Needless to say I won and now have sole custody. I have no will power at all hehe it was all for the lil dudes.

I've been smoking weed on and off for 23 years now. The longest break I took was 6 months so I could save to build my 1st PC. I think everyone should take occasional breaks from the weed, it gives you perspective. You cannot fully appreciate light, until you experience darkness.

I disagree, I think your scenario demonstrates willpower.
