I use Ad aware to blast spy ware (and spy bot sometimes) but be wary there is one "ad" program which attaches itself to a registry file (userinit) and when you erase it with ad aware specifically it corrupts your registry. So make sure you have back ups.

I also use xp anti spy to seal up the holes after I clean the system its very handy and doesnt "run" so it doesnt use up ram, its sort of a "one shot" program although you can change any of the programs options at any time its only active in memory while its open. (like a normal program) I highly recommend it if you use any version of XP (home, corp etc etc) It's basically shut out all but some cydoor programs which I dont even mind as their are only 8 of them and they dont collect info unless I click on certain websites. So I just leave em. (they dont run in memory either so "meh" I leave em).

Hope that helps a bit. I've heard spy blaster is ok , but doesnt clean near as well as the others but safely clears out quite a few. Never used it myself though.

i also have this symantec e-mail proxy thing that ALWAYS pops up saying itblocked some i am not sendingwith a porn subject??what the fuck is that?norton says i dont have viruses?

symantec is good...i use norton's firewall on this laptop and mcafee on the pc...i think mcafee is superior but both work equally at blocking spyware, popups and hacks of all sorts. they both record the invader and block...but both cost money. symantec does it all too...

http://www.techsupportalert.com/best_46_free_utilities.htm enough said. micro$ofts website also has an online malware scanner/remover that is updated monthly. I couldn't get the online version to work with my IE (probably beacause of my security settings inside IE :p) but there is also an option to download it and run it manually. p.s. If you are using XP and keep up to date on security updates you should have already downloaded the malware protector and it should have already scanned your computer last time you updated, but it never hurts to do it twice.

As far as firewalls go Sygate (http://www.sygate.com) and PeerGuardian (http://www.methlabs.org/) together work well.

Here's everything you'll need. (keep in mind you can just google these names)

Pay Programs: - Norton AntiVirus (only good for basic common viruses though)
- Webroot Spysweeper

Free Programs: - www.trendmicro.com (anti-virus/spyware/trojan, with their
free online scan)
- Ewido (anti-virus)
- www.free-av.com (anti-virus)
- AVG (anti-virus)
- TDS-3 (anti-Trojan, 30 day trial)
- Hijack this (for advanced and knowledgeable users only)
- Adaware SE (for adware. make sure you get the version
that says SE, stands for Special Edition)
- Winpatrol (Lists all running programs on you computer with
full details, and you can remove anything with it)

keep in mind paid programs are not necessarily better. Norton is quite inferior IMO for any virus of decent design. Also, no one program will give you full protection.

Then you don't know too much about spyware my friend. spybot is outdated and catches very little, and misses a LOT . Webroot Spysweeper is far superior. plus, no 1 program is ever "all you need".

I would never trust any antispyware applications from Microsoft, they don't give a fuck about your privacy.

Best advice is don't download and install the stuff in the first place! Keep Microsoft windows, and all other software applications upto date. And run your computer as a User not as a Administrator that way everything needs your consent before it gets installed on your computer.

After reading this thread, I am reminded that Windows really sucks. Buy a Mac. If you had one like me, you could spend those franklins on a nice bag of haze instead of fuckin mcASSE virus scan that never protected my ass when my windows machine crashed in 2001.

haha the haze...the sweet haze!
