Your only running a single 400w HPS? (I ask because I'm thinking of setting up a temporary flower cabinet on 400w, How big is your area? )
Why no reflective?

yes i am only using one 400w in my flower room. its dimensions are 4.5'Deep x6.5'Wide x 8'Tall. i have them on a table that is 4'x6' and sits 2' off the ground so that the pots sit up higher in the warmer air at night, instead of sitting on the ground where the air is colder. and the only reason i dont have reflective is cause i havent got the money to spend, but will be getting mylar as soon as i can. thats why i keep my light as close as i can. i had used the 400w hps for this set of veg because i have the next 2 mother plants vegin slowly under 130w of cfl's. thanks for checkin them out btw and hope this answered it.

well i cant realy estimate that well lol...my last harvest was with no nutes during flowering and even worse soil. now i have better soil, and using FF nutes. i also harvested a week early so that i could get them out of there and on to this batch. im hoping for around 1/2oz a plant with these 6 plants. but i wont know until the time comes...

well today i got mylar and got it put up. im realy happy with it, it only cost me $5 to do my entire room. i never would have guessed that wal-mart sold mylar. i read someone saying go to the camping section of wal-mart and you would find mylar(emergency blankets), so thats exactly what i did and i was surprised and excited. here is a few photos i just took!

thanks for the tip, ya tomorow ill have to readjust the fan just hair im sure, but i got plenty of fan to drop the temps as low as in the 60s if i wanted it to. if it heats up any more with where the settings at now, ill turn the fan up a notch. ill update tomorow on the issue.

no problems with it heating up any with the new mylar. i have a big enough flowering room i guess for it to not raise the temp. plants are still looking very healthy, smelling like crazy(i love it) and tric production is still going nuts. cant wait for this harvest, hopefully this time i have plenty to last me.

Now I would never have thought about emergency blankets!! Amazing what growing goodies you can find at the local supermarket.....but wonder if they ever think that's what people might use it for?!
Thats sucks about losing one of your girls. We had a fluro fall on one of ours but thankfully she just got a little squashed and recovered very quickly. But it's gut-wrencing seeing one of them have something happen after you've spent so much time nurturing them.
Good luck with the rest of the ladies, they're growing into beauties!!

ya i know right, everyone kept asking me when i was gona get mylar, but i didnt have the money(or credit card) to order it online. thanks wal mart  . i did wonder what the lady behind the counter would think, all i bought was two emergency blankets and some duct tape :)....seriously who buys just that lol.
it sucked to see one of the girls die, but i have PLENTY between the indoor and the outdoor in the greenhouse :D , so losing one isnt bad! i still cut her up and got 2G's dried smoke that was still good(impressive for only 20 days into flowering).
ya ive had a floro fall on one once to, it sucked but it didnt faze my girl other then a lil bendage, no biggie tho

well i recently recieved 3 new girls from a friend (another medical patient) who has a 4' tall girl and decided to take some snips off of and help me with some new variety since i have only been growing G13 over and over. she had recieved her mother from a friend of the family(i believe that was the story, or coulda been family) who lives down in humboldt county. she didnt know what the strain was called(she doesnt know much about cannabis) or what it was exactly, other then that it is an indica. so i just decided to name em Humby 1,2,3... these have a much different smell then my G13 and smell hella good as well. i cant wait for there roots to develope allot more in the pots i have them in so that when i transfer them into the 1.5 gal they go nuts. just thought id share my new girls with you guys. so keep ill be updating this thread with both the G13 and the new Humby from now on.

well quick update, im bout to head out to get a few supplies. im making a new grow box that will be 5'X4' and 7.5' tall. doing this so that ill be able to have WAY better air circulation. i have to open and then close my current box now to keep the temps down inside. so this way i wont have to ever touch it. ill post up pics later when im back and got it up and done, probly have em up tomoro

glad to hear...i know it will be awhile, but let me know what she thinks later on:thumbsup: . what i like about this strain (i hate the sativa "head highs") is that it is a "get shit done" strain. its all head high, but clear headed head high. but since its very high thc content, if i smoke more then a bowl it makes my anxiety worse. so i only take a few puffs and im :D:stoned:

06-21-2010, 07:04 AM
Personally (And selfishly) I like when my wife gets in that "Get shit done" mode which is common on sativa's,(head highs) Couch lock is bad given our situation ATM. and as luck would have it, I'm growing Grandaddy Purple, a heavy Indica strain!.... Sure is pretty tho!
I'm in day 8 of flower in the attached pic.:hippy:

quick update real quick before i move on, one plant(the "Y" plant) has alot of yellowing leaves after i did a mid-way flush to unlock and buildup, i let the soil dry and fed yesterday. im hoping the feeding revives the leafs back to full green. just about done with the new setup, still got to hang the light but its getting close now, def be done today.
coolwhip, thank you and hello! as far as the G13 goes for pain its a "love-hate" relationship. everyone will have different reactions but mine with it is that it has such a high thc content(all head high) that it makes my anxiety worse if i smoke much of it, so i only take a few puffs and im :D:stoned:. it works for pain, your so head-high you dont feel any pain, atleast i dont, and thats what im prescribed it for. and the nice thing about this strain is like i told Canni, is that its a "get shit done", "clear-headed", head high. thats why i usualy dont like the sativa's is that they make my brain run a 100mph. i tend to like the heavy indicas more for pain myself. calms me nerves down, and keeps my brain from running a 100mph and alows me to just phocus on something and not get to sidetracked. good luck finding this strain, its not easy to find someone who has it, unless you find it crossed with say White widow or something else. lets just say i knew the right person at the right time and got VERY lucky.

took a few shots today while i had the girls out in the sun!!! this DVD/camera realy sucks for high quality color images. its a Sony DCR-DVD610, and the video quality is awesome, but sux ass for still images and its even a carl zeiss lens:mad:... oh well nothing i can do to get better quality pics so deal with it :), i have to. things looking good still, im just trying to figure out why the buds always get bigger and bigger untill around week5-6 :wtf: then they slow way down and quit swelling up. im 5.5 weeks in now and it seems like they arent getting any fatter, maybe its just me:stoned:, but it seemed like they did this each batch. my last harvests were cut short at around week 7. so since i heard that they realy swell up the last two weeks, maybe they will swell up fatter this harvest since they going the full 9 weeks this time:thumbsup:. can anyone confirm this for me?
well here they are...did anyone order a "frosty"?:D "Wendys" aint got shit on me!!!!:rastasmoke::stoned::pimp::jointsmile::D:D:D

make sure to flush the good before harvest. I flush for two weeks until the leaves start to get pretty yellow. This means that the plants are using all of the nutrients stored in the leaves. This is when i notice the most bud swelling and growth. If you chop them down too early then you really cheat yourself on quality, quanity, and flavor.
Your from Washington state and youve probably smoked some really shitty "Canadian weed". Its not actually from canada, its just from growers who cut it too early, sell it too wet, dont cure it, and dont flush out there ferts before harverst.

on another note, ill be getting some new strains in a few weeks(when they are ready)... im getting "Jack Frost" and some kind of "purple". i think i was told ill be getting 3 different ones but im so :stoned: right now i cant remember what the 3rd was :D so we'll just go with those two right now and ill update further more later on.

well theres only a week left till these girls come down. 5 of the 6 are yellow and one still has all green so it might go a lil longer. but all in all cant wait to taste this harvest(they smell "fruity" and delicious right now it makes me :D everytime i check on them) since alot of major improvements been done since the last harvest. what makes me even more happier is knowing that they still have room for improvement with the following harvest and im alot closer to being 100% dialed in with a method thats bulletproof. next harvest ill watch the ph and ill be using a better soil mix with even more % of perlite and such for even greater drainage then the mix im using now with only perlite(i used it to sparingly). well ill probly update 2moro with some more pics, this time ill take them under normal lighting so tht the hps dont fuck with the quality.

im thinkn they were just stressed. the leaves were curled a lil bit for some time and i also noticed the leaves fringing up for awhile. very slow drainage leads me to believe that the roots were suffering lack of oxygen. and posibly salt buildup, but they never showed signs of nute burn, so im thinking ph was way off(i hadnt been watching it, gona go get a ph meter for the next batch.). and who knows maybe my digital thermometer/Digital humidity isnt acurate, it was only $5 :stoned:, so i might get a better one or just get atleast one more to cross check its acuracy.
i should be fine in these 1.5G, my friend uses these as well and he grows them to about 4' and gets a huge quantity off em. im using the hps for veg too and was only letting them get to about 1.5' before i switched them to 12/12, they stretched alot once i switched them. so im gona let the next batch get atleast 3' before i switch them.:D, keep an eye on the ph levels this time, and add way more perlite since i was using it way too conservatively and not adding much:stoned:. we will see.

Wow 4' in a 1 1/2 gallon bucket? And here I was worried that my 3 gallon buckets might not be big enough... Move up to a bigger pot and I guarantee you won't be disappointed with the results. Furthermore, those do sound like pH issue. pH is difficult to control when the pot is too small for the plant. You will face sings up and down and eventually you will face lockout. Anyway, it will be interesting to watch. I hope you prove me wrong!
G13budsmoker
07-03-2010, 01:08 AM
i used to think that it would take more then a 1.5G pot too, i started growing in 5G buckets but when i seen my friend using 1.5G pots and producing high quality and high quantity per plant, i said screw wasting the money on extra soil when you dont need it. yes 4' (giver er take) and he grows purple kush, ak47, blueberry, and a random indica, all which turn out very high quality and realy large buds. he uses a 400W MH and a 400W HPS tho for vegin and flowering in one tent.
so i know as long as ALL the conditions are right(hence why im sure its PH issue), these 1.5G pots are just fine for small trees. 5G buckets are for the outdoor plants. :D real "treees"

That's all good information. I wonder if the smaller pots give you less room for error? That would be my guess and makes sense from what you are saying - so long as you dial it in properly and run a tight grow it is doable. Seems you would leave yourself vulnerable to pH issues and salt buildup. I saw a thread where a few growers challenged to see who could grow the most weight in a 16" party cup. As I recall the winner pulled out a bit more than an ounce. I'll be watching.

i used dolomite lime in the soil, but i was afraid to add to much, so i dont think i even added enough to make a difference. supposed to not allow the ph to go above 6.5, but i didnt grind into enough into powder either when i added it in. so it might have released it to strong in one area and damaged my roots, causing lock out, which woulda made salt build up and effect my ph. ill have to look at the roots and see.
next batch ill crush the lime up into powder when i add it in, and change my feeding scheldule from feeding every other watering, to feeding every 3rd watering. so from (water-wait 2 days-feed-wait 2 days-water) to (feed-wait 2 days-water-wait 2 days-water-wait 2 days- feed-wait 2 days). this should reduce any build up and reduce lock out. and ill be watchin the ph so the next batch should yeild me more then this...but we'll just have to see. each previous harvest i keeped improving SOMETHING, so i think this next batch will be just bout dailed in 100% and provide a much better harvest.
i saw that grow too, i laughed when i saw a plant LSTd in a "party cup" :D

:jointsmile:well all plants are cut and now hanging to dry. will have pics up sometime next week. looks like other then the one realy small plant that wont produce much, ill be close to my estimate of 1/2 oz a plant. overall im expecting about 2 1/2 oz's dried buds.
the next group in the flowering room as of right now is 1 G13 (the mother) and 3 Humbi Indica's (H-I from now on). i was thinking about grabbing one of the giant bushes from outside in the greenhouse and bringing it in(theyre gona outgrow my greenhouse if they dont flower soon) if i can make enough for it. the only thing is if i do, i wont have an even highth canopy anymore.

i didnt forget:D, just that most of it is still drying/curing. i took some pics of the stuff that was dry tho as i threw it in jars. total dry harvest numbers will be up sometime next week:jointsmile: its gona be pretty much like i predicted, 2 1/2 - 3 ozs.
honestly this stuff is somewhere just below other "highgrades". not as highgrade as my friends purple kush is, but its right below it. i still have room for improvement, this was kinda a "trial and error" run for me where i ran into a few problems, but its just about 100% dialed in. so the next expecting harvest should be even more enjoyable:rastasmoke:!!!

@ TP- well this was my 3rd attempt with the G13 strain, the first two were "trial & error" runs. well all my grows before this have been "trial and errors" actualy. either between trien to find the perfect growing medium mix, to heat and humidity issues, to improper nutients/buildup, to unbalanced ph, to bugs- thrips. all these have been issues with my previous grows, it was like each time i got one area dialed in, another area had problems. well this grow went pretty smooth, got rid of the thrips before it got bad but had ph issues throughout half of the grow slowing the growth rate im sure. i pretty much have all the kinks worked out now so im realy excited to challange myself with the next grow for better yields.
it feels good that each harvest has improved with better results. this only tells me that the "really good stuff" that im smoking right now still could be better. quantity will be much more when im not having ph/buildup issues and im sure the quality will raise a notch as well(even tho it is very high grade strain already). with this harvest atleast im proud enough with it that i can say "yeah, thats G13!"
G13budsmoker
07-13-2010, 07:13 PM
... and the total harvest numbers are better then i had predicted. i thought there was no way id be getting over 3 oz's, in fact my guess was that id get 1/2 oz per plant = 2 1/2 to 3 oz's, but i ended up getting almost 3 1/2. total was 94 G's(3oz's, 10G's). not bad for what it is, as these plants were kept small for space reasons. now that i have most of everything dialed in, my main phocus for the next grow is using space/lighting most eficient to get the most out of my yeilds.
to all the new growing patients out there who dont have any experience, the best advice ill give to you is someone on heres signature(i dont know who it is but ever since i read it, its stuck with me)... "learn to grow, then learn to maximize your yield"- (i think is what it said. who ever has this sig, feel free to state it here again.) but its only when you've gained experience that you really realize how much and what that first part meant.

Nice buds there! But I have to agree with some of the others about the size of those pots. If space was an issue, I definitely understand. I had to divide my single HPS 400 grow into a 2 grows, one of which is now CFL. Bigger pots will almost double that yield next time though. Either way, nugs look great.

space is my problem, hence why i was trying more plants in smaller pots. im trying to find the most efficient way to a healthy yeild with only a 400W hps and a 4'X5' setup. if i can produce more with only 2-4 plants in 5 gal pots then ill never go back to smaller pots. but i do know that these size pots are perfect for smaller, thinner plants up to 4'. ive seen WAY to may growers using these pots with great success. all im trying to do is find out first hand which will yeild me more. i honestly thought that more, smaller plants would be more efficient(acting like a SOG), than fewer, bigger plants. so thats why im trying this first.

All you have to do is get bigger pots and give the roots more room to sprawl out. That alone will increase your yield. The roots are IMHO the most important part of the plant. They absorb the nutrients that create your colas, leaves, and buds.
More roots=more nutrient uptake=more growth:thumbsup:
You can also look into Low Stress Training as a way to increase yield. You dont have to veg for 3 monthes and train like crazy, but just a little bend here and there will help your plant bush out.

actualy ya i was thinking of trying that next with all 1.5 pots, whenever i have the funds for it. im gona try 8 smaller scrog'd plants one time VS. 2 or 4 big ass mothers in 5G pots another time.

i have used this method before and i was pretty happy with it. im actualy using this method on a plant right now as well. but the thing is im trying to save space, not make it to where i have less of it. my girls are bushy as it is with out this method.
thank you both for the input

I just potted my mother into a 7 gallon and trained her into a 2'x2' screen,... she takes the whole thing up and I'll have to cull out some tops and branches to keep light getting to the bottoms of the strongest few. If I was allowed to have more in flower at once I could try some other things as well,... but I don't see a 3 plant SOG happening
I'd have to say that the Scrog (For me anyway) seems to be the best way to maximize yield per plant. Veg for about 1.5-2 months all the while training, then screen to a 2x2' screen that's on attached to plate under the pot (So you can have each plant be mobile with in the room ;) ) This would allow you to have 4 plants spaced out 1/4 of the flowering cycle all in flowering at the same time (assuming you have separate Veg room) And viola, harvest every 2 weeks. :rastasmoke:
Pic is my former mother just after training her under the screen,... she's since turned all her leaves towards the light and has started to reach for it a little on day two 12/12.
Well that's my :twocents:

What kind of training do you do during veg? Are they under a screen?
Also, I'm a bit concerned for that mom you just put under the 2x2. There doesn't appear to be much room for growth? Or am I missing something.

A bit of both,.... I'll try and track her under my own grow log so as to not jack the thread,.... but yeah, you've got a good point, I didn't leave much room for stretch under the screen,.... but judging by what I saw with my first shot at this LST/SCROG thing (Started with this plant then failed with a clone off of her,... which is logged in my log :o ,.... shitty read and lots of newb "F" ups. ;) But, I digress.... ) Judging by what I saw with "Gia" I'll be ok,... There will be stretch, and has been a bit, but mostly it's trainable, and I'm shooting to have one top for every other opening in the mesh (1" chicken wire) anything growing below the mesh gets cut out, leaving just the tops that are exposed to the direct HPS :weedpoke: :chainsaw: :buzz_saw: :rambo:
Pic is from tonight,... and I've already ID'd a branch that needs to be culled at the base.... bout 2/3 the way down the left hand side of the shot there's one that stands WAY up,... while that might be a strong bud,... the stem is broken just below the screen and needs to be cut out.

let me start off by sayin that the new indica clones i got are aparently from the "Skunk" family cause damn my grow room smells so skunky now. the hairs are brite white and the leaves are dark green. its a beautiful plant, i cant wait to transplant the clones i took off of it tonight. im gona grow this next batch out to atleast 3' before i switch them. im also running a better mix ratio, 3 parts soil(with existing perlite)-1 part extra perlite, so this should help with the build up problem i had with this last grow. im not gona add any dolomite lime either this time. so ill update later with pics after i transplant

well here is how they are doin, the oldest indica skunk is going to be getting the final flush this sunday and cut down a week to two weeks later. the other two indicas are about a week or so behind. the two big G13 bushes are day 23 in. and the last plant in the bunch is the old lst'd G13 lil mother plant, and it will come down when the oldest indica does.
