greetings, fellow farmers!

I am planning my first fully indoor grow which will most likely commence in July or August. As an experienced smoker, I realize the value of a well-grown sativa. Let me just detail my growroom set-up quickly and then i'll get to the questions
I'm going to be growing in a closet which should be able to fit 2-3 flowering plants comfortably. 150 watt hps is likely (possibly 250 depending) supplemented by either a 2-bulb T5 flouro type deal or some cfl's. I want to grow organically, in soil.

Recently I have been browsing possible strains, and the Super Lemon Haze (Lemon Skunk x Super Silver Haze) by greenhouse seeds caught my eye. It won the 2008 CannCup in a landslide, so there is no question that it is quality genetics. However, the bio about the strain said it would grow quite tall (sativa, duh). Anyways, my question is to those of you who have experience growing sativas indoors, what methods/techniques, etc have you used to maximize your yield and manage the legendarily lanky sativa? Any details about successful strains would also be appreciated.

thanks,
PK

Hey there PK... saw your post and thought i'd tell you what I've heard about the SLH by Greenhouse. I've got a single 'freebie' SLH seed waiting to be germ'd, so I did some research awhile aback on it... from reading some grow journals on this strain, I've noticed that it can have a particularly looong flowering time (12+ weeks) but is well worth the wait! Don't expect any think mondo buds with this strain...lanky, spread-out buds will be your likely result. As for indoor growing of SLH, you will want to tie it down (LST) as much as possible during the veg stage since it will explode during flowering and take up all the room vertically that you have... that's about all I can think of at the moment...good luck with this awesome 2008 AND 2009 CC overall winner!!

sounds like a good strain....i've never tried lemon skunk...but super silver haze is one of my favorites! Sativas do usually have longer flowering cycles like Dayz said....about 10-12 weeks...just keep an eye on the trichs.

I have grown several sativa strains indoor and have had alot of success. Just make sure all of your elements are balanced and you should be fine. Get good nutrients and don't overwater.

Thanks for the input, dudes. You've convinced me to just go to go for it with the SLH, but first I have a lot of prime looking bagseeds that I think I'm going to do a test run with and if it goes well I'll invest in the genetics. I'm not looking for or expecting huge yields, I just want to grow some really good pot that gives me the high I want, and it seems the super lemon is perfect.

I was definitely considering using LST for the plants, because I've done LST before and it worked very well. I'm planning on topping it, but do you think that an early top (first 3-4 nodes instead of 5) or multiple tops would be a good idea in combination with LST? I'm also thinking of vegging it for a shorter period (maybe 4 weeks) to compensate for the heavy growth in flower.
