THIS IS MY FIRST GROW AND WOULD LIKE SOME ADVICE. I WOULD TAKE IN EVERYTHING A MORE EXPERIENCED GROWER COULD BRING TO THE TABLE. THIS IS MY VEG BOX AND UPON FLOWERING WILL MOVE TO A BIGGER SPACE. I HAVE 3 26 WATT CFLS AND 2 48 WATT CFLS. USED ORGANIC MIRACLE GROW (OLD TIMER I KNOW SWEARS BY IT). LIGHTS ON 16 HOURS 0FF 8 HOURS. HAVE 7 PLANTS IN A 2FOOT BY 1 FOOT BOX THAT IS MAINLY ENCLOSED. WATER ONCE A WEEK WITH SPRAYING THEM DOWN WITH DISTILLED WATER WHEN NEEDED. DO THEY LOOK OK? THEY SMELL GOOD LIKE A FRESH GROWING FOLIAGE.THEY ARE 1 WEEK AND 4 DAYS OLD SINCE POPPING OUT OF SOIL HAVE VENT HOLE BUT NO FAN AS I HAVENT HAD TIME TO GET ONE YET AM GOING TO DO SO TODAY. HAVE PICTURES PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK. DO NOT KNOW WHAT KIND OF PLANT I HAVE JUST GOT FRESH SEEDS FROM MY OLD TIMER FRIEND. THE LIGHTS WONT BURN THE PLANTS?

CFL's have poor light penetration and can only burn a leaf if they physically touch it. I grow with cfl's and try to get keep the bulbs within 1-2" of my plants.

...for various reasons, one of the biggest being that they run so firkin' COOL...

Question for ya... what color temp are the bulbs you have? Are the larger ones the 2700k, or the smaller ones?

As far as burning things, yeah, you should be able to keep 'em within 1" to 2" of the plants, without problems. I accidentally left my little 13w (60w equiv) 4100k cfl shop light near my plants overnight (during their 'sleep', too!), and the only things that happened were that the colas/calyxes nearby got really bushy overnight, and exactly three fan leaves that were frisky enough to stretch to touch it got burned from where they were touching (and were fine everywhere else).

I sterilized my scissors, clipped off the burn't bits, and the plants didn't notice a thing :)

If you can, I'd adjust it so that your big bulbs are the 'main' bulbs above, and your smaller ones come in from the sides. If you can manage it, pick up a 6pack of 6500k 100w equiv (26w actual) GE bulbs @ W4llM4rt, should be like 20bux, and squeeze 'em in there with your existing.

Come flowering time, pick up another 6pack in the 2700k Warm White color, and squeeze /those/ in there, too. You should have more than enough overkill :)

DO THEY LOOK LIKE THEY ARE GROWING GOOD.

They look healthy. Just make sure you get that fan in the next few days, so you can increase air circulation, they will appreciate it.

It needs to be on all the time the lights are on, you don't have to run it during the dark period, but I do. I like my girls to have plenty of fresh air.:)

Do you have an intake and outtake for the air? This is not so important now, but as the plants get larger you will need fresh air coming in and stale air coming out of your grow box, as well as circulating the plants.

If you do add an intake and outtake, make sure the intake is low and the outake high. Computer fans are good for this, I use a 3.5" computer fan as an outtake and just have a hole as a passive intake. You can use black stockings to stop light leaks through the intake and outtake.

Also I would try to find out what spectrums the bulbs you are using are and take Covert Carpenters advice.
