I have tried two methods for find sex in the past...

1. cloning for sex
2. putting moms in the flowering room for 3-5 days, and back to the vegging room. I usually did this around 4 weeks or 4-5 internodes.

My idea was to to start the germinating seeds growing in the flowering room, and then transfer to the vegging room once sex has been identified. Anyone ever tried this?

My only reason for doing this was to save growing medium and to conserve space by culling males as quickly as possible. If no one has tried it before, then I will post the happenings here with pics. I have five strains germinating right now in Sunshine Mix, Masterkush, Sheherazade, Cotton Candy, Island Sweet Skunk, and White Russian. They are just now starting to break ground now, so any quick feedback would be GREATLY appreciated!!

This would work, but you will lose yield, or it will take a few more week to make up for the growth you sacrificed to find their sex in the flower room.
Stick to clones, or if you must, your other method.

thanks for the quick response... when you say decrease yield, do you mean the clones I eventually take from these mothers will not produce as much? just to clarify, I currently have a full flowering room that has at least a month left to go and am in no need of clones anytime soon. these seedlings are not going to be used for flowering plants, I'm just trying to find the best moms. I am also just trying to keep from having to run two 400W MH's instead of just one, and save growing medium. have you ever tried this method before Oldha??

thanks again for the response!

You flower at 12/12. You vege at 18/6 or up to 24 hr light.

If you start your seed at 12/12 they will take 3 weeks to a month to declare Your seed will be growing 12 hours instead of 18 that adds up to 6 hours each day that the plant is not growing. No photosynthisis = no light= no growth. Now that extra 6 hours of growing time may not seem like much, but then you multiply it times seven (days in a week) you lose 42 hours of growth a week. Now multiply it by the four weeks and you have lost 168 hours of light time. But you know the sex of your plants. And then into the vege room we go.

But now you must make up that time you lost. 168 hours. You have females but the plants are not near as big as if you had gone with your normal 18/6. Plants that are preparing themselves to flower must now slam on the brakes and swich back to vege. That takes a week or more. You also owe 168 hours of light. Thats about 9 or so days just to catch up. In a perfect world you are behind schedule to the tune of (at minimum) 2 weeks.

So you lose two weeks of yield or in our perfect world your plants need two more weeks to reach their normal hight.

I live in Hawaii. I have a room but it is seldom used. We have one long season and two short season. Short season is when I pick my mothers. All under sunlight. I can go from seed to bud in 100 days. Not large plants but each gives me a sample. Pick what I want to save, leave 4 bottom buds, and it goes under 24 hr light to force it out of bud. Then I take my clones.

Hope I made sense and good luck.

I usually start the seeds, put them in 1qt gladware with dirt once germinated, leave them under 24 until they r big enough for 1 clone, take that clone, root it, right into flower as soon as she roots, within a week after that you know what the sex is. that way there is only a small amount of dirt lost if male and if it's female you don't have to wait for the mom to switch back into veg and grow all those crazy single bladed leafs and what not just shove her in a bigger container and more clones are ready within weeks. takes a little longer to find sex initially, but in the long run it actually saves a little effort and time.
