For my entire 20 year life I haven't smoked anything be it cigs or weed or anything else. But last Saturday, the 10th of april, I decided to try smoking a joint with my friends.

After kinda failing to smoke it first two tries, I took a really deep hit on my third and I got high. But I felt like there was like a burning feeling in my throat that would not go away for awhile. Friends just told me to drink something cold so I did and eventually it went away.

Then around Tuesday night when I tried to go to sleep I found it hard to breathe and it felt like there was a bubble in my throat and I felt like I had to burp but couldn't freely do so. And even when I burped it only relieved me for a bit. Then the next day it kinda got worse and I felt a dull pain in my chest frequently throughout the day and even til today.

I'm also experiencing that I have to breathe in deeply sometimes and my heart rate goes up for a short while. I seem to salivate a lot too. And after I eat, even it wasn't much food it feels like I'm up to my throat with food.

I have looked up my symptoms and apparently it could be gerd? or gastritis? Can you even get gerd from smoking badly once?

Some people said it would go away but it's almost been a week since smoking and like 4 days since the symptoms started. Can anyone care to give their insights on what's happening to me? Thank you.

I think you have what I got one night when I took a massive hit and started laughing. I burnt the shit outta my throat it felt like I swallowed fire or something for acouple days. It sounds like whatever you have will just go away soon. Drink things that'll sooth your throat not cold.

Actually it does sound like GERD Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease.

Try an over-the-counter Pepcid or similar anti-reflux med.

If I didn't have any problems like this before do you know if GERD will persists? Or could it just go away after it settles down? I usually eat really healthy (rice, vegetables, some meat but not that much).

I tried taking antacids and so far it seems to die down slightly day by day. It's been about the 4th day and it's much better than the first. I guess I'll wait a few more days out and see what happens. Thanks for your inputs

GERD can't be caused by one-time use of pot, no matter how hard the hit was; it has to develop over many months/years, and can be AGITATED by smoking weed, but unless you already had it, smoking wouldn't cause it.

More likely than not, it's just temporary irritation of your trachea- possibly you swallowed smoke (which is not uncommon for first-time smokers, I did it myself) which could be causing the gastric irritation. I've never had any issues with smoking pot and GERD myself, though it brings up another experience I had which is similar to yours.

I smoked lavender last week at a friend's house, and afterward, I felt like I had major heartburn, and a tightness in my chest that wouldn't go away- it increased in pain when I inhaled deeply, like yourself.

Either the smoke itself or the lavender oils irritated it to ache for almost a week; I imagine it's the same deal as yours, based on the symptoms. If it persists for a full week, go see your primary care doc. Otherwise, just take it easy!

Yup, that is correct too
