Call this day 0. Due to space restrictions I'll only grow 2 at a time, and since the plants will need extra blue spectrum to veg properly, I decided to pull out one of my 45 watt cool white CFL's and veg 24/0 until the babies are big enough for the UFO.

Eventually I'll have the PAR38 SMT Blue LED light delivered and I can provide deep blues to the babies.

As much as I wanted this to be a LED only grow, time restrictions are making me use a combined LED/CFL route.

Wish me luck! :hippy:

Pretty basic: 1 45 watter cool white CFL, 2 3 gallon pots each with a mix of Miracle Grow and organic potting soil, the inline fan acts as an active air intake, sucking in fresh air.

I planted a Blueberry Skunk seed in each pot. I kept the setup as simple as possible, I wanted to avoid transplanting in a cramped space.

Not much action in the cab, I pulled the big guns and replaced the 45 watter with my trusty 120 w cool white CFL...that should get things moving! :hippy:

Sprout alert! One healthy little sprout poking out of the soil from the pot on the left while the one on the right is still playing hide & seek...nothing new, I'll keep the cab at 24/0 until I have 2 healthy plants!

Still no sign of life in pot #2 so I'm germinating a new seed. Here are a few recent pics!

Picked up the PAR38 SMT blue LED light at the Post Office and added it to the mix for a healthy vegging period! I'm waiting for the tiny one to grow a second set fo leaves before replacing the CFL with the UFO...this time I should have enough blue spectrum in the mix.:hippy:

Still vegging, replaced the CFL with the UFO and added a extra fan in the cab. I also added a thermomter with hygrometer...somehow the smaller cab seems to accumulate heat very fast.

Current temps & humidity: 86F, 50%.

Pics of the day!

Switched to 12/12 yesterday, as soon as I saw the second set of leaves on "righty". Lefty's stem is thickening nicely but the cabinet's temps worry me a bit: 80F 46% humidity...

a few more pics!

Hard to tell, it's still in the "experimental" phase...won it off Ebay last year (or was it 2008?) thinking I'd made the deal of the century: quality UFO's can go for as much as $800.00 and I paid $135.00 for it (I won't bring up the triband fiasco - Chinese seller gave me the run around when I wanted to return it...).

Anyway, because of the shape, the sprouts sometimes grow sideways to get to the blue LED's...which is why I still entrust vegging to my power CFL. Mind you, with a couple of Blue PAR38 LED's flanking the UFO I think I'd trust an all LED grow from seed to bloom...

Just beware the cheap knock-offs, I'm learning the hard way that you get what you pay for. If the reds aren't 660nm and the blues 445nm (or within that range) run the other way those lights aren't worth the dough! ;)

I confess, I'm after a bargain like the next guy :D but with a bit of research it's possible to save dough and get appropriate lighting:

Thanks! Got me a few extra Par38 LED bulbs: 2 blue and one mixed (the same one in the link above) this way I'm covered so the plants grow straight...

So in LED I have my original dual band UFO, I blue panel (garbage), 1 PAR38 red, 3 PAR38 blue (agreed one was my mistake...I bid on 2 bulbs thinking I'd be sniped on 1 and won both, d'oh!) and one mixed red & Blue Par38 ...

Hell, if anyone's interested, I'm ready to get rid of the triband UFO, the LED panel and the extra Blue Par38 for real cheap! ;)

See what I mean by growing sideways to catch the blue spectrum?

My tall crooked one turned out male :( , so I chopped it up yesterday and planted a new seed in its place (day 0 for that one, day 15 for the short stubby one - it's really thriving under the blue PAR38 LED bulb) ...

Out of 10 Blueberrry skunk seeds, one never germinated, one turned male, one's still growing, one was recently planted and I have 6 on standby...fortunately the BB Skunk seeds weren't that expensive. :hippy:

One of the new PAR38 bulbs delivered today...the blue underfed cabinet has plenty of blue spectrum now! One PAR38 blue bulb per pot (the new seedling will grow staright when it pops out of the soil) and the UFO to provide the necessary reds... check out the pics, nice light show!

Day 2 for the seed and Day 17 for short and bushy!

One healthy sprout and one short bushy plant...still early, but I think short and bushy is turning male...I hope not!

Short and bushy turned out male, so it's outta there...the new sprout is still in vegging state, so I returned the light schedule to 24/0 and planted a new seed...by Wednesday night - Thursday morning I should have 2 healthy sprouts, bathing in plenty of Blue spectrum.

Not much luck with this grow: 2 males, one non viable...waiting on those 2 and hoping they grow into healthy girls. 5 seeds left on standby...

I checked, none of the sacks seemed to have burst so we're good there. The UFO seemed a bit of an overkill in such a small cab, LED's are supposed to run warm...it was getting pretty hot in there!

These PAR38 LED bulbs I just had delivered came highly recommended by Stra8outtaWeed...so the wattage just went from 110 watts to 30 - 33 watts, one mixed red & blue bulb (the one in the middle) and 2 blue ones to make sure the plants grow nice and straight.

Two healthy sprouts (again) I'll wait for the two of them to have their 2nd set of leaves and initiate 12/12!

Pedro de Pacas

Oh yeah, the new tally is out of 10 seeds, 4 germinated, one was a dud, out of the 4, 2 turned male...still awaiting for the new sprouts to grow big and show signs of sex. And 5 seeds on standby! :hippy:

Pedro de Pacas

I won't start an official count until I initiate 12/12, I would just like those two to look a bit bushier before I do. If one turns male I won't start a new seed if the other one's a girl...I'm hoping for 2 healthy females to turn the stats around!

Both sprouts have their second set of leaves, so I hooked up the lights to the timer. The spectrum is still predominantly blue (I have a theory that most UFO's are deficient in blue spectrum) but I'll replace the middle Red & Blue bulb with an all red once the babies have begun stretching...this way I'll have 1 full red and 2 full blue bulbs.

I'm thinking I'll reintroduce the UFO in the cab once I see pistils...:hippy:

No pics...temperature under 80F so I reintroduced the UFO (replaced the middle red & blue PAR38 bulb with it).

How have you had males if you have yet to initiate 12/12?

I first initiated 12/12 April 26, restarted from scratch May 10th (went back to 24/0) and re-initiated 12/12 May 18.:hippy:

Okay, so the restart of the Blueberry skunk grow has been all LED. Which means increased cabinet temps and increased Co2, less watering and nutes.

Weezard gave me a great idea for the extra Co2: sugar water + yeast= Co2. A bit of plastic tubing and we have a clean Co2 intake, gradual feed good for 30 days...yeast & sugar is easy to find, safe & cheap!

Added the Co2 intake this morning! :hippy:
