A bill that could, if enacted by the legislature, give the compassion centers the authority to determine who would be able to cultivate medical marijuana has been proposed at the State House. If enacted by the legislature, patients and caregivers would lose the protections currently provided by the law in January 2012. Patients and their caregivers would be allowed to cultivate only if authorized by the compassion centers.

This is BAD!!:(

It's not good. Everyone needs to write to their legislators and demand they put a stop to this!!! If the 2 retired cops that put this bill forward, get it enacted then everyone will lose their Caregiver privileges. They are trying to make it so that the only place for a patient to get their meds would be from the compassion center. Their would be no more caregiver or patient cultivation. This is the first step to complete and utter corruption. I know many patients and not a single one of them would be able to afford to purchase from a compassion center. They say that it will be low cost.... Bullshit! In typical Rhode Island fashion there will be a few "buddies" in charge of the whole thing and they will DESTROY all the progress that has been made thus far. DO NOT stand for this! Call and write and scream. It is time for our voices to be heard. We were given the right to provide for ourselves and others in need, do not let them take that away!!
Do you think they will be able to afford to keep 3 compassion centers in business with only 1400 or so clients?? They are going to grab everyone by the balls and squeeze until they have gotten every dollar they can then it will all fall down.

RIPAC has some info on the bill on this site

RIPAC E-News (http://ripatients.org/feb10enews/#Feb10-1)

I urge everyone who is concerned about medical cannabis in RI to subscribe to the RIPAC newsletter as they will have up to date accurate info that we as citizens can use to stop this Bill

Hope all of you have been proactive!! I personally find it odd that RIPAC has not mentioned a thing about this on the website. I wrote Joanne an email regarding this bill and have not heard a thing back from her. Hopefully our elected officials have the patients best interest at hand........

Thanks for your interest and support.
I encourage you to attend the legislative hearing this Wednesday, Room 313 at 4:30 PM at the State House.
This bill is a terrible idea with devastating effects for patients and we intend to say so. I am currently lining up patients and caregivers to testify. This bill would also eliminate the "giving" which allows licensees to donate to others with a license. The giving program has been a lifeline for those patients without resources.

It's good that no action is being taken. The bill was bad, would have restricted growing rights of patients and caregivers to zero unless approved by the compassionate care centers. Basically buy here or no MMJ for you. If you know RI, it thrives of cronyism. Gambling is ok in RI as long it's only Lincoln track and Newport hai lai and the state lotteries. This would restrict growing privledges to the "chosen few." You can read the bill at RIPAC and there are updates there regularly in MMJ in RI.

Booh on the THCF!!!! And any other out of state company not sitting in RI...corporate greed is seeping into the grassroots MMJ movement..be vigilante everyone!

The bill which would have ended legal growing rights for patients and their caregivers as of January 2012, died Friday morning when the General Assembly ended its 2010 session. The bill never left its first stop at the House Judiciary Committee. The Committee never voted on the bill.
