Hey got my first time grow going with one bubble gum and two scrogged trainwrecks 34 days into bud. bubblegum has had little to no problems where as the trainwreck has had an almost constant spider mite problem

I have a closet setup about 3' wide by 8' long where at the moment i have the three plants in bud under a t5 4 bulb 4 foot light

Im using fox farms ocean forest mix with humboldt nutrient grow and humboldt nutrient bloom as well as humbolt nutrient duece duece

the lights are 3-5 inches from the plants

got the clippings from a friend had them in veg for a little under a month and put them in bud on february 26th plants are currently in 3 gal pots.

Trainwreck has had a might problem. sprayed with azamax and got rid of them for a long period of time. since then they have returned and ive used BONIDE MITE X spray to attempt to get rid of them. most recently sprayed them on monday march 29th. almost all of the old growth has the white spots and i noticed them showing up on the new growth as well.

HELP ME (pics in a few minutes):rastasmoke:

Have you looked into neem oil? I know some people love it, and it gets rid of some pests (though it takes time). I'm not sure if it's for spider mites or not.

the hydro store next to my house had neem oil but said its not as effective as azamax and has a horrible smell thanks though:thumbsup:. any idea about yellow and brown leafs on the bubblegum?

Isopropyl alcohol works great, do a 50-50 mix of 99% with water and spray the undersides of the leaves. It dissolves the mites.

Looks like you burned the bubblegum with too much nutrients. Have you checked the run-off ph? How long have they been in the same soil? Might be better to start a new thread in the plant problems section. Use the copy-and-paste troubleshooting form + pics

put up a thread in the plants problem section a while ago with no responses :( ill give the ph a test they were transferred recently so the soil is very new. ive cut pack on the nutrients hopefully everything starts to look better

you want to get rid of those mites?

go get a HOT SHOT NO PEST STRIP

place it front of a fan blowing onto your plants and it will kill them and any eggs that hatch in 10 days or less!

just dont freak out when you read the label....the plant does not absorb the active ingredient that kills them and if it is in your closet keep the doors shut on it and you mites will be gone...no sprays...gauranteed to work!

without it you will always have a mite problem eggs drop into the carpet and hatch and the cycle never ends!

Yup found it. Most of the people helping out in that section don't feel like asking for the necessary info to help you. You gotta do your part and provide the info. Anyways there are a ton of threads about spider mites around here, it just take a little searching and reading. I think Stra8's got your answer for that. But if you want help with the bubblegum, fill out the troubleshooting form in your old post or here once you get the ph measured.

Happy growing

What about lady bugs? Will they eat the mites, and eat enough of them to be worth while?

Maybe that would be a good solution for them who don't like to use chemicals.

i looked into that. im in the pacific northwest and seriously could not find any lady bugs. on top of that i live in a small apartment and fear what happens when the bugs are full/out of mites to eat. i just sprayed them down again with azamax and am going out to buy that strip at some point today. but if all else fails i think im going to intensify my lady bug search

Once I was driving around in the mountains around Big Bear. I had to stop and hit the woods because of an overwhelming urge. After I got done with business, I turned around and seen like millions of lady bugs at the base of a tree. I scooped up a hand full with my bare hand. It was cool.

They don't bite. They are one of the coolest bugs around.

I told them that their house was on fire and their children were all alone, but they didn't believe me. :D

Back to reality now. I would like to try them out. I doubt they can do any damage to a home or person. I know they are great on aphids. If they like spider mites, they will be my best bug friend.

i use the no pest strip...lasts for 4 months and i mark my calendar! i will not spray anything on my plants but a neem/Dutch master penetrator mix during veg ...i have the Azamax...and i used it to get rid of fungus gnats..so it is really good stuff...but only used it to water in the soil as even gnatrol didn't even phase those little suckers...my room is fairly pest free keeping a change of the pest strip every four months...if i get pests its becasuse i forgot to change out the strip :stoned:

and thanks for the kind words :D

grow strip it is. so no negative affects on buds? i have my fan blowing straight onto the rapidly maturing bubblegum should i still put it in front of the fan? or just pop it behind the two scroged trainwrecks?

sorry for the pestering but its my first time and by some miracle of god (or science) the bubblegum is looking nice and i dont want to screw up my lucky streak :rasta:

none...and if you read the warning label it is sounds like 3 mile island...that is why i said to keep the closet door closed on it...if you are sleeping in the same room you might be better off with the lady bugs as my grow room is a separate building from my house...so just to be safe..look at both options...i don't reccomend being in a room breathing those long term with out proper ventalation...that plants do not absorb the active ingredient though

harry939
04-05-2010, 08:22 PM
im in the same room and the closet doors dont exactly seal shut but i have a fan in there a nice big open window in the room and a vent going in the laundry room (a few steps from the closet) i hope i dont die trying to save their lifes

stra8outtaWeed

do things the same way you have been...as long as the fan blows circulating the NPS through the plants during lights on it will work fine...and it will kill the eggs that have fallen into the carpet....that is why just spraying won't work:thumbsup:

lady bugs work great if you have sealed or floro lights, they like to fly into the light and commit suicide, more airflow will keep them on the plants and not flying around and they will not eat themselves to death, they will some mites around for food. clean up your stems more by the base next time. if you do spray, spray the stems and top soil as that is one way for them to migrate. remove the most affected leaves before spraying. if you have the time, use a paint brush and brush under the leaves before spraying. also SM-90 is also recommended to mix with neem oil. great mix that works for me. two other mite enemies are high humidity, not an option to aviod mold and colder temps, high 60's for a few days will put a dent in them. hope this helps.

HELP ME (pics in a few minutes):rastasmoke:

my spider mites prefer a particular srtain for whatever reasons.

you got some nute burn for sure. flush their medium w ph ed water i do 5.8 wait till next feed time to use a less concentrated solution.

im a hydro grower and its almost impossible to avoid some burn. im going to be doing my first soil grow here in a couple weeks 50 clones in black grow bags. i was inspired by seeing a large group of super duper healthy soil plants w no burn or deficiencies in sight! its kinda a hobby any way i only make like $500/month proffit

3% peroxide from walmart

1 oz/liter of tap water its around 16 oz/4 gal tap

half strength for clones

spray daily before dark or whenever you have time

get under the leaves, you should go buy a pump sprayer with a wand so you can just stick the wand into the canopy and spray under the leaves with ease. it can turn into a lot of work depending on how large your plants are (i dont think i like having really big plants anymore)

this solution was recomended to me by a successful medicinal caregiver soil grower and i have smoked his product and do not taste anything bad about it

its in the medicinal bible too

and this solution imediately made the green more brilliant
it helps the leaves use oxygen so i keep mine airated in a 5 gal bucket w a lid to prevent evap which would make the solution become un stablized

take it easy! your plants look fine!

any advice? also with the yellow and brown leafs on the bubblegum?

that bubblegum doesnt like that high of a concentration of plant food. (a disadvantage of growing different strains)

my maui has never burned while other strains have. my afghani kush must be imune to spider mites too!

1 oz of 3% peroxide/liter of tap water

spray plants daily forever under leaves and flowers too

will prevent mold outbreaks as well

spider mites are burned by the solution and your plants can use oxygen easier too

i want to grow regular old marijuana plant with ,no nutrients
How many times should i put in new soil in marijuana cycle of life? also can plant grow without adding any extra nutrients can i just use potting soil.

my experiments with growing in store potting soil proved that mj plants need much more than what soil could give them. ive only had clones make it for 2 weeks with no nutes before their lower leaves yellowed showing a nitrogen deficiency. also that stuff has these stupid time release plant food pellets in it that do nothing but mess up your nutes.

if you dont want to use nutes, you re going to have to get into advanced organic soil growing (compost can suck the nitrogen out of the soil)

1 oz of 3% peroxide/liter of tap water

spray plants daily forever under leaves and flowers too

will prevent mold outbreaks as well

spider mites are burned by the solution and your plants can use oxygen easier too

plants dont use oxygen they emit it
