View Full Version : Question on Aeroponics Sprayer Location

I am planning a closet aeroponics set up. I want to use 5 x 5 inch pvc fence post for my aeroponics chamber. I plan to have 3 two-inch net pots for 28 inches of fence post.

I would appreciate suggestions as to where the best location would be for how-many sprayers within the chamber.

Should the sprayers be directly beneath each net pot, or in between?

I understand that roots will fill the chamber . . . how do experienced aeroponicers best deal with that "real estate" inside the aeroponics chamber, while getting the best possible application of water/nutrients through the sprayers?

TIA

You are entering very dangerous grounds using this method than virtuously any other. Unless you have several years of growing under your belt using any other hydroponic methods, it will more than likely fail. There is absolutely no margin of error using this method. If the power goes out, or a cord is accidentally disconnected for only a few minutes could cost you everything......and when you are asking how far apart those net pots should be, you are telling me "inexperienced". You will not have a good outcome, in fact I see this as a 90% failure. Start with the easiest, not the most daring.

SpaceNeedle,

Thanks for your reply and your concern. I understand the risks. I also have a deep appreciation for the experience and wisdom of the folks on this forum. That is why I was asking the particular question the way I was.

Integral to my plan is a UPS backup power supply that will power the pump, fan, and a backup cfl. The grow will be less than two feet from the computer where I spend 16 hours a day, seven days a week.

Plus, I need a new hobby :) . . . and meds

On a final note, do I detect a rift in the hydroponics world? I noticed that there is a group who are sold on TAG, and I sense from your reply that pure hyroponics-ers look down on aeroponics / NFT.

I'm not aware of any rift. I have done virtually all kinds of growing without soil. Everything from DWC, to Ebb and flow, aeroponics, multi-flow, waterfarms etc.

I've grown for 7 yrs, and the only one I would never do again is the one you want to start. You can have all kinds of back up systems, but the problem is that you can be right next to your plants and they look just fine. but you can't see the nozzles being plugged, and you walk out for lunch and when you come back you have a dead garden. Those roots are suspended in the air. The moment the spray stops they have no protection and will die very quickly. Any other type of hydro, and you have a bit more time to rescue them. I have seen my plants perfect and an hour later the roots were so dry that they CRACKED off when I tried to move them. Why take the chance when you can use another system that would be much more forgiving?

To each their own, but I definately second the need for experience before you move to an aero system. Definately try hydro first. It will get you in the habit of checking all of your numbers, ph, ppm, reservoir and climate temps, and rh. Get some big harvests with hydro and you might stick with that. Practice makes perfect.

Old thread I know

Many nay sayers about hydro for a first grow.. There are a lot of great articles about Hydro/NFT. Read, research and experiment. I am a first time grower with 0 experience. I built a Aero/NFT out of 4" round pvc. Works great, fast growth and good yields. I say try it! Pay attention to all of the variables and you will be fine.

with pipe/tube systems is root room and flooding. been there done that.

This method works fine,if your not limited on the total number of plants you can legally have. Grow a bunch of small pop cicles.

I am limited, so I needed a longer veg time so each plant yieded max.
this is why I went to 5 gal. grow buckets
