another 1st timer here :-) am i doing something wrong?

ok im going to be straight up and honest.. I do not have a green thumb! But i am determined to figure this out :-)
I'm not looking to become a full time farmer but just want to enjoy some of my own plants.
this is my mountain kush clone we just brought home 1 week ago.
it was looking good when i got it. after transplanting into miracle grow for 1 day until i got my hands on some foxfarm soil. testing water, Ph is perfect on watering and run out. ( dont think i could say that for the 1st day home though). spent a fortune on the lighting and have the turn over bulb ready when flowering time comes. fan is on and circulating.
I know there are tons of posts like this on here, but i didnt want to get lost in someone elses thread. im sure some one on one advice is what i need :-)

whats your question? it looks like a good clone....good color and healthy leaves....i see lots of perlite which is good....you seem to be checking the ph, also good! :jointsmile:

miracle grow soil can be "hot" and looks like you got a little nute burn goin from the transplant...keep your temps in check so things don't get worse by adding light burn to them...i suggest keeping them about 78-80 and keep a close eye on her :thumbsup:

Thanks. i just thought the yellowing of the top leaf in the middle pic was not a good sign. and also some of the bottom branches didnt look right to me. then again i dont know what looks right or wrong at this stage.

as soon as i got the advice about the miracle grow. i switched it asap. they said they dont bake the miracle grow so it comes with pests where as the foxfarm is pest free. the bat poo was pretty interesting. reminded me of Ace ventura hehehehe
I dont have much humidity in the room. would a humidifier do the job?
i have one of those foggers from a terrarium i had back in the day. i could hook up a lil something if that would work also.

i think you may be over watering...every other day is a bit too much in a 5 gal pot with a liitle clone....and you will not need to feed for at least 3-4 weeks from potting in fresh soil...so cut back on both nutes and water!

you should let you soil dry out a little....sometimes the plants on my veg side will only get water once a week or until they droop a little then i give them water....take your index finger and poke it in your soil to the second knuckle and if you can feel moisture don't water...you want your roots to reach to the bottom of your pot so by cutting back the water the roots will reach when it drys :thumbsup:

Thanks Str8, i've only had it for about 1 week now. i was using the spritzer all week as my watering tool but today i did it so i saw the water run to out the bottom. i want to test and see how long it takes the soil to dry out with the new lamps we got yesterday. 400 watt sunburst convertible. Hulex i think is the bulb. and the high pressure bulb waiting for later on. I've seen so many people with lights from plain ol flourescents to the t5's to the crazy lookin bulbs. bein from jerzey.. we went with the crazy ones hehehe

yeah, it looks pretty simple to catch whats wrong...anyways from what I can remember...

The yellowing leafs on the edges looks like nut burn. The canoeing shapes of the 2nd and 3rd nodes looks like your over watering like a mo fo. One of the greatest mistakes of first time growers is that we get anxious and overwater and over nute. We do this thinking that the more we feed, the faster and better the weed. Not true.

I would say back off on the water. Take a metal or wooden long handled spoon and once a day, push the handle down in the soil, such as that as baking a cake, about 4 inches. pull handle out. if there is soil on the spoon, that mean that the soil 4 inches down is still wet. DONT WATER. only begin to water again when your handle comes up completely dry and without soil on it.

As for nutes, I burned my ONLY grow up by putting nutes to them too soon. I would wait for a week or two before putting the nutes to them. But dont take my advice too much to heart and wait for someone else who knows about nutes, comments on your post. Maybe ol' stinkyattic could help....if not him, maybe Zandor.

Cool thanks. I picked up a baby Alaskan Ice and Shiva skunk today. got them in cups for now. gave them fresh soil and a little water to moisten it up since the soil has been drying out in the bag.
Ill just spritz them up a bit here and there and see what happens. the babies i got today are nice but look like they can recoop. $10 bucks a plant. couldnt resist :-)

the only thing i add in veg is mychorizzea which is beneficila bacteria for root development....your soil has enough in it to get you to flower and when oyu tranplant that is just like adding nutes so no veg nutes:thumbsup:

the mycho will help with nute uptake by building your root zone :smokin:

Hey guys,

thanks for this thread...as a first time grower using the same exact lighting and a similar sized closet space...this information really helped me a lot...

I just planted 4 seeds of hawaiin gold, 3 of white widow, and I'm still waiting on a couple of seeds of Super Silver Haze to germinate so I can plant those (I'm aware that I'm working with 1 easier strain (HG) and 2 more difficult strains (WW, SSH) but I think I can learn a lot from working with the three!

I'll try to follow the post, and maybe get some pics up when the babies pop up so I can perhaps get some input on my setup!
