New to smoking, Questions to be answered!

Hello there! I have only been smoking for about half a year or so and the only things I've smoked so far are: Joints, Blunts, Bowls and Water Bongs

I just recently started buying and was looking online for a decent bowl to buy, the site I was checking out had Ice Bongs and I didn't really get the general concept. A few things I read online said they had ice between the glass, so my first question to that would be, does that melt and you have to keep the bong in your freezer before using it? Also a few people mentioned putting ice cubes in their bongs... do you just put ice cubes like you would water in a water bong or is there special ice cube trays to fit Ice Bongs?

Also if anyone could give me any tips on what would be the best buy for someone just getting into smoking, a lot of the more expensive bongs I seen we're glass and a lot of the reviews people said they we're good but could break easily and cleaning was difficult, obviously the breaking part comes with glass but I've never cleaned a bong before... is there certain ones that are much easier? Do you just clean it like you would a normal glass you drink out of?

Hi BooTwo, welcome to the forums!

Just to let you know first of all, ganga comes in many different forms. You can get so many different types of plant, different highs and different effects which is fantastic. But you already knew that!

With a regular bong, the water will act as a filter and a cooler which makes the smoke nice and smoothe. I prefer this type.

With an ice bong, basically it's a regular bong but it has a bit of an indent in the main tube so you can slide 'regular' ice blocks (obviously small enough to fit into the hole) down the hole without them falling into the water so as to cool the smoke further.

This is how an ice bong is configured:

As you can see, the ice is used above the water, not in it.

Multiple people on these forums also recommend using quite hot water (not boiling) instead of ice bongs, which produces a different feel for the smoke.

For someone who is new to smoking, sometimes bongs can be quite daunting. Inhaling the smoke from the bong can sometimes take a little bit of time to do. Meaning, that sometimes new people panic when they're inhaling the smoke from the bong. Do not panic when you inhale, you must relax. It requires practice by yourself without pressure from other people.

Therefore, before you understand how to inale properly and longly, you sho uld smoke joints and blunts before bongs, so you can get used to being high and how awesome it is.

When you're ready for a bong, research how to do it and let us know. Basically, you must relax, breathe all the way out, relax, expel all of your air from your lungs, relax, then light, then relax, then inhale while relaxing. It's a very rewarding experience and you will treasure every bong you have.

Bongs do break, but only if you mis-treat them. I have a nice glass bong, (btw, call them water pipes, not bongs when you purchase them from a head shop), and I just treat it like I treat a woman. Don't drop it, take care and relax. You will be fine, you won't break one unless you smash it off a table.

Cleaning is a little bit of a problem, but search around the forums and you will see lots of ideas about how to clean them. You can use the bong lots and lots of times before you have to clean them. Basically use a solvent and raw rice.

You will enjoy this new found hobby. It is fantastic for your health and wellbeing, and especially fantastic for your mind. You will discover youself more than you think. I am very thankful to MJ for my happiness in life. You don't need $$ you need MJ.

But, it's your own journey. Basically, try a few more blunts and joints, then build your own bong (search the net), try it out with an open mind (and some good music) and you will have a fantastic time. I did!

Fourzer0 is pretty damn right on. Great description and advice. The only thing I can think of to add is when you go to purchase said water pipe first think about what you like in a WP. Like do you want a carb or a stem the pulls out to clear the smoke? Do you want all glass on glass? In other words all pieces are glass except a couple of rubber O-rings.
I would also recommend something short and practical. I have never liked the 4 foot bongs! I like something with a flat sturdy base, that is not top heavy with a bunch of crap so you spill bong water everywhere.

This site Glass pipes water bongs one-hitters spoons bubblers grinders (http://www.glass-pipes-water-bongs.com/) has just about every kind of water pipe and glass product you could want.

I have a simple glass on glass that has a slider bowl for the carb. It is shaped like a med size beaker and is about 12 inches tall. the only thing I would like to make different about it is I don't have the indents for holding an ice cube.

BTW to clean it I cut the top off a two litter bottle and fill it full of rubbing alcohol and salt. Then all you need is a bottle or glass cleaning brush and a little time.

This may seem like a crazy question but can you really just order MJ off this site legally? Even if you live in a state it's illegal in? I didn't really do much research or go very far on the check out screen, just saw a banner saying you just have to be 18, never heard of any of my friends ordering it before.

That looks alright, but reading the reviews I have two reasons why I wouldn't get it myself:
1. Thin glass. If you knock it over there's a high possibility it'll break.
2. Clear glass. Nice to see the smoke for beginners so you can learn how big of a hit you can take, but completely bland and not much of a showpiece.
