So it had been only two days since a complete tear-down of my grow space, and already I was feeling a little empty without having any babies to look after :(. That's why last night I started germinating three more bagseed I found. The only known strain of the three is Cali Mist. The others are just good ol' nug.

I know I've said a couple of times that I wouldn't even attempt another grow until I had really good equipment, but I figured what the heck. Might as well get one more practice round in. Plus if everything goes right, I'll have my HPS in time for flowering, or at least most of flowering. So last night I constructed a box and CFL lighting rig.

The equipment is nothing short of mediocre, but I believe the construction and some quality care tactics I've learned since last time (like NOT feeding the full recommended dosage of MG food - Thanks for that one Rusty) should make this grow pretty good.

So let's see what I'm using.

Growspace:
- 18"x18"x36" moving box, lined completely with mylar.
- Built in exhaust at the base (This should force fresh air into the box, past the lights, and around the plants.)
- One circulation fan hovering above the lights.

Lights:
- 4 x 27watt CFL (6000k) and 1 x 42watt CFL (2700k)
- Reflector is simply a wire frame with mylar stretched across it.

Medium and nutrients:
- Scott's premium all purpose potting soil with about 40% perlite (will be sprouting with 10% perlite)
- I haven't picked the nutes yet, but I'M NOT USING MG.

That's just the basic Idea. but I will be trying at least one new thing this time around: I will definitely be trying LST (Inspiration from Bigtopsfinn) and possibly, maybe attempting to SCROG it (these portable locker shelves are awesome!)

I posted some pictures of the box, I know it's somewhat of a ghetto set up but I think it will work better than the last one.

Let me know what you think! I'm gonna try and post updates every few days! I'm also thinking of taking a picture from the exact same spot everyday and making a stop-motion type growth video. It just might have to happen!

Thanks for stopping by

That's what I'm hoping. My biggest concern is obviously the lighting... If I can't get the HPS for whatever reason ill likely just replace the smaller cfl's with 42 watt ones, which would give me about 210 watts of cfl. Not terrible, not great either though.

Thanks for checkin in

So are you growing from fem seeds and what strain? Just wondering.

TehNooblet:pimp:

Nope, no feminised. All bagseed. I know one of them is Cali mist, not sure about the others.

Thanks to everyone else for stopping in! It won't be an epic grow or anything, but I've never logged before. So... Here I go.

How many are you planting and how many are you hoping for?

Unfortunately i'm only planting 3, so I'm hoping for two females. that's all the bagseed I found over four months. At least I've been getting that sinsemilla...

Quick update: I'm expecting the seeds to crack at some point today or tomorrow. Then it's into the soil they go!

well, good luck man. I am still on a grow that I started out with 9 plants, from seed, and ended up with 3 females. The odds weren't good for me. lol

This grow is going to be interesting to watch.

Real nice I have always been interested in running a small setup but would like to do it with a lowrider.

Everything looks great and you have the experience so this will be a great log.

What wattage HPS setup are you looking for? I am running two 400w for 7 ladies.

Thanks, man. I've had surprisingly good luck getting females from bagseed (somewhere around 60%), so I hope it's not time for my luck to turn sour. *knock on wood*

I'm just looking at a single 400W, possibly a digital ballast so I can switch between MH and HPS. I'm kinda excited, It's not the setup i dream of but I've learned SO much from posting questions about my last grow and studying, That I think I can pull it off nicely. *knock on wood again*

Thanks for the comments, everyone. And If you are so inclined, enjoy the grow show.

Quick Update: Still no cracked seeds, but I'm planning on planting tomorrow regardless. I've done this in the past with very good results.

Well, two of my babies have broken ground (one of them still is completely inside the casing) And I'm starting to become worried about the Cali mist seed. I'm not sure its viable. It looked a little underdeveloped (barely) but it may just be enough to render the seed useless. I will give it some time, however.

I've also decided to do the stop motion growth animation. I've taken two pictures already and will try and start taking them daily.

Last little bit of news: I timed this grow pretty badly... I won't get into details but these plants may have a rough life. They may have to be moved around quite a bit to avoid being seen (My parents and one of my roommates parents may be visiting and they are NOT down with MJ)

I leave you with pictures of the two warriors. Take it easy

Sorry about the lack of updates guys. It's been a busy week, I've only really had time to write some short posts around the forums.

That said, I'm still pretty busy so this will be a short update.

I transplanted one of the unknowns to a larger (1 gal) pot - the roots were THICK on the rootball. the smaller one still needs a few days.

I will start the LST in a few days after the roots get a little situated.

I will try an update more often! Peace.

Nice. That is just about the same setup I have going on, exept I have a 200w 6000k in lue of the 43wer, and a 150w 2700k to replace with during flowering. This is however my first grow, and I have made many, many, many mistakes from prepairation all the way to now. It will be nice to have your grow log to cross referance.

Cheers

Your first grow doesn't sound bad at all. I hope my experiences can help you out a little bit. Just don't expect to learn everything right away. It takes years of dedication and dozens of grows to really start to understand everything. I have a long way to go as well, but the work will be well worth it. Thanks for stopping by!

Those babies are looking real nice, that unknown is going to love the extra root space.

Hope you can get your hands on a 400w soom, I am starting to love mine more and more everyday, just remember heat will become an issue.

I recently discovered a friend of mine has an 600W outdoor floodlight-style HPS system, and he said he would let me use it. The problem is he lives a couple hours away so I wont have time to get it for a couple more weeks.

Heat will DEFINITELY be an issue. with the warm weather starting to come in even my cfl's are getting my space a little above 80*F. On top of this there is no venting or anything on the light. I will probably need to expand slightly, but we'll see.

I just started training the second plant today, so I decided to post an update. I started training the first a few days ago.

The second one is showing some signs of what look like a ph problem, though it's not affecting much of the leaves at all. In other words im not super concerned about it.

I AM concerned about the first (bigger) plant. The training is going better than I hoped, but a few days ago (while I was tying down the top) I noticed some tiny little bits of growth coming from two of the upper internode, which look disturbingly like balls. I included a photo of these two nodes.

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Sorry, those are balls... chop em!

Although... I had 1 plant that started out with balls, which I cut off with a blade, and then go full on female.

I'm currently finishing this plant and kept a CLOSE eye on her/him... (he-she?) and never saw random male flowers pop up.. but then slowly they started to diminish as more and more female flowers started to show. It may have entirely been that I stressed the plant too much (first grow) and it went hermie from the get-go but then laxed out.

So I'd keep an eye on that plant after ripping those balls off.

I'll grab the tweezers right now

It would be nice to see this plant turn female like yours, especially since it's growing pretty damn fast, and looks really healthy. Did you change any environmental factors or give any special treatment to help this happen? I'd like to do everything possible to encourage a female.

Thanks man. I feel like I saw that before but forgot it was there haha. Thanks for reminding me .

I picked off those pesky balls. They're forming at every internode, so I'm not sure ill be able to save this one :( I'll give it some time before I chop it though.

Well the biggest problem I had from the get-go was I never pH adjusted my nute solution (growing in coco). So I had my pH all out of wack, once I fixed that and cut off all the male parts. The plant started to grow bracts everywhere and then I started to notice stigmas coming out. Maybe a week later I found a few more balls but that all stopped and my plant went full female.

So.. check your pH?

Haha, thanks redtails. It's not like this is my first ever male, but it pains me every time! :(

I'm fairly certain the other will be female. Its almost as if I can feel it... Did I mention that I LOVE Sour Diesel? :stoned:

Gah, I really should do that. It's probably time I went and got a full blown ph checking/adjusting system. Like a Ph pen and some Ph up/down. I can probably do it on friday! Thanks again for the help.

To save a little bit of money, I just bought a PH Pen and PH down, if I adjust the PH to low, I just add water to raise the PH.
