View Full Version : converting plants from hydro to soil

I am converting to organic. I've been doing RDWC. So, I have a few nice plants in 5 gallon buckets / netpots but I don't want to flower them and be stuck in hydro for another 75 days.
Has anyone ever put a plant that vegged in hydro, into soil? (or sunshine #4)
how did it go?

Ive never done it but man.... i would assume this would shock the hell out of the plant. The plant isnt used to getting nutes from the medium like that. tough call. Hope someone who knows better can help ya out.

I've done it the other way round and the way you talk of, plants adapt if their strong enough!

Coco coir looks like a soil grow technique but the plants grow hydro-style (you use hydro nutes at hydro pH, etc.) Pretty sure you could transfer your DWC plants to coco without much problem, but what's "organic" got to do with it? Are you changing nutrients, too -- is that why you're making the switch?
You can do organic in DWC, lotsa choices for that. I switched from chemical (Dyna) to organic (Pure Blend Pro) mid-grow in DWC for an experiment. No problems, but I decided I liked the Dyna better (thanx, Weezard ), and it's cheaper.
Not sure why you'd wanna switch at this point, but you could move a single test plant to coco and you'll know within 2-3 days if you've succeeded. I'd keep the nutes the same till you've got the plant stabilized in the new medium, though--even if you're planning to switch nutes later.
I'd expect significant stress to the plant if you switch from DWC to soil, though. Loss of yield and increased risk of hermies, at minimum. If you do try it, please do a log so we can see what happens. It's an interesting :weedpoke:

I've seen it tried. It did not work out at all.

it works, trust me. do not disturb the root mass ie leave hydoton that are clinging on the mass, transplant, water (lower pH). they will shock and stretch like never before but you can get a decent pull. Flora nova line was used in hydro, FF in soil. raise the pH over the next few feedings to normal soil range. u should experience some lockout/ minor pH burn for the 1st week or so. also try to use flushed/ used soil.
