It could be anxiety as mentioned above, but you do not mention having anxiety at other times, so I'm not convinced there is enough evidence to strongly suggest it.

It may not be in your head. Cannabis is well known to increase heart rate for a brief period after use, though I don't know why you'd notice the effect only one time, and so strongly at that. I used to smoke an eighth or more per day and never noticed that effect (that I can recall, anyways), but after I quit for ten years and started smoking again I noticed it quite clearly. It might be an effect that is more or less pronounced in different strains, I suppose. When you are not growing your own, and buying street weed, you encounter a number of different strains, and you never really know which is which.

Cannabis is a relatively safe drug, so you might try a much smaller dose next time and see if you encounter the same problem. The only concerns I've ever seen about it were a couple of studies which noted a slightly higher percentage of heart attacks within an hour of smoking in patients with known heart disease.

Nobody on the forums is going to be able to really help you, though. Even if you encountered a highly-qualified doctor here there's not much they can do via the forums. He'd probably just tell you to see a doctor if you are that concerned. You will not get better peace of mind from the forums or talking with friends than you will from having a doctor tell you that you are healthy.

My suggestion would be to see your doctor, describe the elevated pulse and anxiety you experienced, and go from there. They can do blood enzyme tests shortly after such episodes to see if it was a result of a heart attack, etc. They can give you an EEG(?) to make sure that's good, and if they are still concerned or have found nothing, they can give you a stress echo test. There is a lot they can do to ensure that it wasn't serious, or detect if it was.

If you pass all of the tests with flying colors, I'd say you really have nothing to worry about, and that it was probably just the weed or anxiety or something else benign. It's up to you whether you choose to mention the cannabis use of course, but I have good rapport with my doctor and would mention it to him if I were in your position.

Thats what happens when you think too much in your high thinking space.

I once had a friend who was so freaked out that he was having a heart attack or something that he got a rash all over his body. It looks a little like measles. After a doctor told him he was fine, you could actually see the rash disappear like a movie time lapse.

Your brain can do some amazing stuff. Be careful with it. :stoned:

Nothing at all to worry about, unless you already have serious heart problems. A sudden increase in heart rate is sometimes one of the effects of consuming to much and have a "whitie" or "greenie" or whatever you like to call it.

It's only happened to me once and I already had been smoking for quite some time so I didn't understand what was happening at first. I just sat down and it seemed to fade away slowly over about half an hour.

Don't smoke more just for the sake of it if you are already high. Next time you could faint and hit your head as you fall.

Take it easy :rasta:

It could be natures way to tell you to slow down.

It's never bad to just get checked out.

About 8 years ago I was working on some computers and smoked a few joints of swag and a pack of cig's. I got agravated and my heart beat got fast then my arm hurt some. No chest pains. Then my heart fluttered. Jump in the car and had my wife drive. She didn't know anything except I was feeling bad.
Walked in the hospital and went right to the back where they found I was having a heart attack. Well seems I had some small blockage that I could of taken care of with meds the next year. However they seems to think I needed something more.

Now I owe 100 thousand in med bills because they scared me into what they wanted to do.

So now I worry cause no job and my families in debt that I can never pay.
What's the answer. Jack me up on a bunch of thier pills and that makes it better.

Moral of the story is Just take care of yourself.

Im with Loc......most likely ur body relieving itself of tension or anxiety....i had some episodes for about a year after my son was born and the stress levels were somewhat high. I started attempting to learn meditative breathing techniques and things of that nature including starting to jog 5 nights a week......and it really helped me after about 2 or 3 weeks. Good luck

anxiety disorder for sure. It always hits you completely out of the blue. Don't be afraid to take xanax... it is actually made for anxiety, and helps a lot (just watch out, you should NEVER take xanax regularly, it's fairly easy to become addicted to)

If you read the post esc420pot linked you to in the first response (which for some reason takes me to a post about glass, hopefully not the same for everyone), I wrote a lil bit about my experience, and how I overcame it. As did a few others. Nothing will help as much as a psychiatrist, but some light reading can't hurt.

good luck!

He says he went to the doctor and told him how it made his heart rate increase and what not and the doctor just told him to stop smoking. Now he doesnt smoke anymore and we all call him a pussy

anxiety disorder for sure.

Possibly, but not necessarily for sure. One of the side effects of cannabis is a slightly elevated heart rate. Depending on what you're smoking, you can become very aware of your bodily functions. If noticing your elevated heart rate makes you anxious, it could trigger the fight or flight reflex which means an even more elevated heart rate. One feeds the other. It's happened to me before on occasion. Once I chill out and think of something else, everything is fine.

That used to happen to me, so I quit smoking and now I drink... never looked back.
