they grow like weeds, in spring just throw em around in soil, and theyl grow and grow. and then theyll seed again and grow and grow and so forth. the hardest part is knowing when to harvest as there is limited resources on opium cultivation as it is a much worse offense than mj. even though opium should be encouraged so people get off the ever so dangerous heroine

The opium plants will take about till the middle of your summer to be ready to harvest as long as they have been growing for about 3-4 good months.

I dont know where you live but poppys can be difficult to grow in n.amer..They need to get in the ground early and in fact its suggested they be sown in the fall or on the snow so they go through a long cycle in the ground. Some ppl only sprout them inside and transfer after they mature.-usdi Agaluga

i plant them in mid-winter to mid-spring and they start producing in mid-late june at the 4k' level of southern nv. they do NOT transplant well and the seedlings must be watered so their roots are disturbed as little as possible...iow, water gently until they begin to look a bit like dandelions. then they're established, easy to care for and will be sending up flower pods soon. many send up multiple blooms so don't quit on em once they've flowered...but usually the secondary flowers are smaller...but still 'sappy'.

dried pods and stems make a great tasting tea too with a little honey...

there are excellent grow guides around too which i recommend for the serious grower. also be aware most states and countries allow them as long as they're not scraped/milked. check your local laws before scattering seed.
