In a word.
Yes!

And without predators, they are prone to proliferate.:(

Spider mites will ride in on your clothes, hair, under your nails, on the cat, airborne.
Ants will walk in and bring aphids with them.

Store bought soil can come with fungus gnat, white fly, and thrips. No extra charge.:mad:

I 'd advise you to put Murphy's law to work.
Purchase a couple "No pest strips" and and some Yellow, sticky, White fly traps now, and keep them on hand.
(They can be hard to find when you need them fast.)

I highly recommend that you keep your soil surface covered with something reflective between waterings.

It will augment your light, conserve water, cornfuse flying insects, and keep da wee bastids from laying eggs in yer dirt!
That, is a lot easier to prevent, than it is to recover from.:(


And the very best defense to all "slings and arrows", is healthy plants!
Healthy plants have the means and the strength to protect themselves. Been doing it for thousands of years.

Dem li'l bug bullies prefer to pick on the weak and infirm.

Whitefly zero in on yellow leaves.
Spidermites get routinely poisoned by a healthy plant and it keeps their population low.
But, if a plant gets too stressed by anything else, the "borg" will bloom, web, and it's RIP green lady in a matter of days.:(




I have a 30X jeweler's loupe that is very handy for trich check.:thumbsup:
And a 100X - 200X variable microscope, which I no longer use, because my friend:giveflower: sent me an Eyeclops.:jointsmile:
That's what took all the nifty photos in my album.

I use it to inspect the girls in real time.
When I see something I like, a button push saves it to a thumbdrive.:cool:

If anything else comes to mind, I'll get back to you.

I'll make it up. I had bug issues early in my move to Washington, so moist here lol. I bought the cheapest potting soil I could find that was supposedly sterile. I didn't spray the crevices of my grow rooms, nor the intakes.

Well I had bugs big time. The drainage from watering had creepy crawlies even.

Off to Fox Farms soils. That made a big difference, but once the bugs got to the soil it was all over. I took a risk and sprayed (early in the flowering cycle so it would decompose) Sevin directly on the top of the soil. DO NOT spray on the plant it will kill it!

While I was at that I used the Sevin in all the cracks and crevices of the room (and I do so once a month or so now) and sweep out all webs and really clean good once a month. I sprayed the intakes at both ends with a lot of Sevin.

I put those sticky fly trap tape things at the intakes and an additional in each room. I keep them fresh all the time. Amazing how many bugs the intakes get.

Once I got all that done and got rid of the bugs I did not have to spray the soil again. (NOT a good thing to do and make sure it gets 2 weeks before harvest so it will decompose.) I have been bug free for 5 years now and last summer the spider mites were the worst ever, I had neighbors loose all their shrubs!

Again, caution with the SEVIN, wear gloves and a mask - it is bad stuff.

Yup, I'd recommend spraying any plants you bring inside the house with a light pesticide or a mix of soap/garlic/rubbing alchol(use light amounts of these) and water in a spray bottle 24 hours before hand. I had a nasty whitefly problem due to one of my moms plants she brought inside having a bunch of the little bastards and their eggs hiding out. Dont know how they manged to get downstairs,but thank god the only plant they attacked ended up being male. I guess I'm kinda lucky though because I have a bunch of lady bugs who love to chill out in my room though

If, you can isolate her from the gang for the test.

Else the allocins and aromatics in da garlic dissipate rapidly.:( Da bicarb dries to an avoidable powder residue, and da borg will re-bloom with a vengance from the rest of your plants.
They bide dere time on your dime.

Worst case, the bicarb gets dew washed into the soil and jacks up the PH while adding too much sodium for osmotic health.

That weakens the plant and makes her easy meat fo' da mite.
So, isolation is advised and you'll need some luck as well.:)

Let me suggest that you put your efforts into the overall health of your harem.:thumbsup:
