Carbon filter is used to remove the smell of flowering marijuana from the air...

Carbon filtration is used in many applications to filter contaminants from air and water. Any industry that stinks (wastewater plants) will often run the air through a giant carbon scrubber (filter) to remove some of the appalling odors.

It is basically an air filter that contains activated carbon. Activated carbon is a very porous substance. Now I don't really remember my chemistry that well, but as the molecules causing odor pass over the activated carbon, they adsorb(?) to the porous surface of the activated carbon, effectively removed from the air.

So, yes, a carbon filter in this context is an air filter used for odor removal.
