getting hot in my tent

i have a 4X4X6 grow tent.. using a 400W HPS they are about 2 weeks old... it seems to be pretty hot in the tent.. I am getting a 4" inline with a carbon filter to take out the air... but do i also need to get something to push air into the tent? I have heard different things..one says yes you need an inline fan hooked to a HEPA filter bringing air in, and some say that you only need an exhaust fan like the carbon filter one and the air will come in through the intake whole on its own... someone explain or give some advice please.. I have 9 plants about 2 weeks old 3 look really good(in a mixture i made) and the other 6 are in frog something potting soil then they will go into foxfarm ocean forest mix.

some picsIf you use your intake fan to exhaust your tent air come through the vent its call passage intake which works quite well,what I need to know is would a 4 inch can fan work for this size tent using a 400 watt hps without a cool-tube.anyone???

True dat, except technically it's called "passive" intake since there is no intake fan, just a passage allowing air to get sucked in indirectly by the exhaust fan. The tent/room must be sealed for the most part.

no no I have a 4" inline fan with carbon filter for outtake... and a 4" HV inline fan that i am connecting a hepa filter to for intake.... I am ave. about 90 degrees F now which is WAYYYYYY TOO HOTTTTT so im hoping that will bring it down to atleast 80ish... any thoughts?? or def suggestions

Your problem is more your reflector than your fan. It's like a toaster oven in there. If you get an air cooled glass sealed reflector and put your exhaust across the bulb after it goes out you'll be golden. Something like a cool tube or this:

I don't know if I said my words smoothly. Let's look at the air flow (how I recommend it) from intake to exhaust:

Lower area of tent intake hole with no fan, just passive intake. If you have your fan/filter that is just all the better. Then the air passes up to the carbon filter at the top. The fan sucks air directly from the filter, no pipes. From the fan via flex pipe to your cool tube and air flows across the bulb. Another tube to exhaust (not called "out take") hot air out of the tent. This will create a negative pressure in the tent which makes a passive intake possible.

Sounds like all you need is the tube or sealed vented hood.

ok that def sounds good i am looking at the aurora 6 reflector. So how does the air flow through? is there an exit in there??? or is there just one flange and hook a fan to it taking air out with ducting? or how does the reflective hood work?

One side is in and one side it out. Careful, that hood uses 6 inch pipes. I don't know which ones use 4 inch pipes so either way be sure to buy matching equipment.

I'm not sure what you mean by "how does that hood work". The fan does the work and the pipes move the air. All it does is keep the bulb head in the vent system and not in your room/tent. it does the reflecting like your regular hood. I'm not sure how you'd hook up a filter with a hood with only one vent flange so again put your system together with a good plan and research.

hey thanks that def helps i didnt know you could just leave the intake hole at the bottom alone and the carbon filter will suck the hot air up and in it..throught the ducting which is hooked up to the inline fan..and then the air is exhausted through the fan..correct??

Also I know that the Aurora reflector is 6".. do you think I could just get a 6"-4" minimizer flange? so that I can hook the 4" up to it?

got that carbon filter and output fan already dropped the temp down to a nice 78-82 F. thanks a lot. my problem is a few of the leaves are like neon green at the ends... are they ok? or should I start over

ok well i def have was also wondering... they are still pretty small for being like 3 weeks old... does it take some more than a few weeks to get to the immature stage (week 1 of Vegging)?
