Hey everyone,
I just saw this on a few other forums and thought it was important that everyone hear it.
Apparently Sunlight Supply has been threatening to put a lot of hydroponic stores out of business if they don't go along with Sunlight Supply's "rules". Stuff like kicking people out of the store if they mention the word "marijuana", not being allowed to sell certain competitor products (like Advanced Nutrients) and so on.
Regardless of whatever other politics and business practices might be going on, that kind of behavior is just totally uncalled for. These hydro shops shouldn't have to play by anyone's rules but the local laws. That's just strong-arm bullying at it's worst.
There's a video on YouTube about this that one of the owners of Advanced Nutrients put out, but if you look around there's a lot more people getting stepped on by Sunlight Supply's attempt to control how the entire hydroponics industry is run.

For my part, I'm not going to buy anything they sell until they grow up and stop terrorizing shop owners. We need to work together, not against each other.

I think it is completely fair for a product vendor to not want to be related with an illicit industry. They are simply trying to protect the image of their company among people who actually grow things that are legal under federal law.
They probably don't want retailers to stock products like Advanced Nutrients, because Advanced Nut. is a cannabis specific fertilizer.
They're obviously afraid of getting in trouble and are just trying to cover their asses. I imagine they're just following the directions of their attorney.

Thats bull. You can't mention marijuana? wtf? haha Honestly I don't think you should mention it just because IT IS ILLEGAL atleast where I am. But the guys around me are pretty cool and know we don't have to use the word "marijuana" anyway because its understood!
I would try and avoid purchasing products from them anyway possible!

As far as not saying the word marijuana, all the shops have signs up. They are protecting themselves, the feds came through here and made them do it.
BUT not being allowed to sell other certain brands is not legal. They cannot do that and will find themselves in court for that one.

I'm willing to bet most of their business is with large scale nurseries, Hell just the other day I saw a growing room attached to a university building (not for MJ obviously) and it must've had about 40 HPS setups at least. I can't imagine what commercial indoor plant producers must have.
But either way, If sunlight supply doesn't want to do business us dirty scoundrels, well then I say fuck em, we'll go with their competitor.

I went to this place where I get my equipment and I asked if they sold sunlight supply stuff and if they had heard anything about this Advance Nutrient issue with them. They didn't want to talk about it at all.:wtf:

I have mixed feelings about Sunlight Supply. I use some of their stuff, and I sorta like it. One time one of their guys in one of the California sites (Ontario I think) sent me some parts I needed without any crap at all and saved me a few bucks. But their managment don't seem to be very inclined towards admitting when they have a problem. In other words, they seem to have some real good people working for them but managment seems to sorta suck.

Sounds dumb to me. Who goes into a hyrdro store and readily admits they are growing cannabis?:wtf:

Infiltration like this is widespread. Headshops have the same problem. My local head shop is afraid to carry anything that has a marijuana symbol, he doesn't carry any hemp products and refuses to buy any cannabis magazines or pro marijuana materials.
It could be that Sunlight Supply is owned by someone who was a grower and got molarized by the DEA. If anyone is interested in going into competition with this Sunlight Supply you could consult me.

Do you really think that if the cops bust a hydro shop they're going to bust every company that makes something the store sells?
That's just not gonna happen. I can't think of a single country where the law works like that.
Remember back when it was cool for kids to chug down cough syrups with "DM" in the name? (I don't have a hope in hell of spelling the name of that ingredient.) They didn't harass every manufacturer of a product sold in the same store as a DM cough syrup.
Sunlight Supply is in absolutely no danger if their products are sold in a store next to Advanced Nutrients. The worst that would happen if the cops crack down on the store is there'd be one less store selling Sunlight Supply's stuff. Not awesome for them, sure, but by no means scary for them.
And ultimately it should be the shop owner's choice to stock or not stock a certain product.
This is just bullying of the worst kind.

Look up Operation Green Merchant (http://www.cannabisculture.com/v2/articles/4557.html)
That is why they act this way.
