So I went to see the doc in Santa Fe today. Took a couple of weeks to get in but he is a great guy and is now a personal hero of mine.

Anyhoo, my qualifying condition is PTSD and I have a diagnosis from a forensic psychologist. So I hand carry the app into the DOH office and give it to the staff in person. She looked it all over and said that the only thing that she saw that might be an issue to the medical reviewer was the fact that the law states that a "psychiatrist" needs to make the diagnosis and not a "psychologist". I went ahead and turned the app in with her promise that if there were any questions or deficiencies that they would call me.

So I figure that I may as well get an appointment with a psychiatrist. I got a list of about 10 from my insurance company and left a bunch of messages. I pulled no punches. I said I wanted a diagnosis of my condition and that diagnosis would be used to get a medical cannabis use permit. I then opened the phone book and did it again. I talked to three doctors on the phone in person and they said no. I also spoke to several receptionists and I gave them the same info.

Do you think I got any response?

I got three calls back already. All three have perscribed cannabis for PTSD before and had no problems giving me an eval. I got an appointment for 12:30 TOMORROW.

...So...It aint that tough in Santa Fe to find a doc. All three of these guys are able to diagnose and refer in one fell swoop. BAM! Instant MMJ card!

I made about 15 calls between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. and had three calls by sundown. My therapist referred me to another doctor in Las Alamos who has not called me back yet. So I figure at least four positive contacts were made within an hour of calling.

Dont give up! Sit down and call those numbers and tell them what you want them to do. Otherwise, make a few calls and come to Santa Fe in the spring and GET IT DONE! It will relieve you, and it will keep the LAW out of the picture. It is bad enough worrying about all "those things" and having to worry about getting busted too.

By close of business tomorrow the DOH is going to have an application with recomendation from an MD, and MD psychiatrist, and a Phd forensic psychologist. All of them COMPELLING the DOH to give me a licence to grow it and smoke it!

PRAISE GOD! I know it is going my way now! Soon I will officially no longer be a CRIMINAL!

For PTSD all that is needed is the recommendation from a Psychiatrist.
The other hoops you jumped through were not necessary.

Good luck!

A I suppose that you misunderstood. A psychologist had diagnosed my PTSD. I didnt really jump through this hoop, that is just the way it happened. They cant perscribe, so I got another doc to do the referral. A psyciatrist can do both...Or one or the other.

If'n PTSD was a qualifying condition when I was diagnosed, and if'n I would have known that a psychologist diagnosis was needed for that I suppose that I would have gone to one. Since my diagnosis was from a psychologist already I just went to the doc to get referred. Seemed to be the easiest solution, and DOH said it would PROBABLY work.

Since it was so easy and so fast to find a psychiatrist MD I figured what the hell, I will go tomorrow and eliminate any doubts. So I figure it was a hoop that was worth the time to jump through.

It was not the process that I went through that was really the point, but the availability and willingness of not one, but several qualified people to help me out with this. It was in stark contrast to many of the stories here on this forum of follks having so much trouble finding a willing doctor.

My point is dont give up. There are more doctors out there that will help out than you may think.

Thanks chance9421

O.K. I posted this lat Wednesday and went to the psychiatrist on Thursday. by Friday they had reviewed my app and they called me to tell me that they needed a psychiatrist's opinion. I told them I just got back from his office and the report will be faxed soon. My psychiatrist called today and told me everythgin had been sent to DOH. I walked in and asked if they got the fax and indeed they did.

Then, the DOH staffer and I had a hear to heart...

I asked what else I could do to improve my chances and he told me there was nothing to it. I was good to go. I asked about a time line and he said I would probably get my card next week in the mail, and if not they would call again and get thigns straightened out.

As far as the grow permit he took a look at the app and said it was a no brainer...they only deny those who are obviously a risk ot those thast are less than forthcoming. He said I should have both cards in teh mail within a few days.

I have nothing but good to say about the DOH people. They are kind, professional, and they have that smoker's twinkle in their eye. The man I spoke to had a big pot leaf with a chile in the middle on his door!

Now, since I made my calls last Wednesday I have recieved five calls back from psychiatrists that are willing to see me and consider a referral.

The doctor that I went to gave me a test for medical marijuana efficiacy. In other words he asked questions on what my symptoms were like (PTSD) when NOT smoking, and then when smoking. Then he arrived at a score that quantified the benefits of marijuana in my case. This is how he explained it....

"The DOH wants me to certify that you do indeed have a qualifying condition, and that the benefits of marijuana outweigh the risks. We know there are very few health risks associated with marijuana, so we need to find some benefits". The test showed that my symptoms were "60% better" with teh help of marijuana. He has quantifiable proof behind his referral. It is very good and he did an excellent job as an MD.

The main health risk that I face from smoking marijuana would be to get the shit kicked out of me by a cop, thrown in jail, and suffer even more psychological stress than I already have. A medical marijauna card will completely eliminate this risk for me.

VIOLA! A CURE FOR EVERY BAD SIDE EFFECT OF MARIJUANA USE!

Once I get that card I am going to go to work getting surgery pain and menstrual pain added to the list of conditions. Those are no briners and no politician can refuse either. I am in a good position with the state and I can indeed exert some influence on the key people. It would certainly help if I garnered some support from the MC patients group, but I beleive it can be done without.

So everyone who smokes for a reason should apply for a MC card and request that their condition be included in the list. Everyone who smokes needs to call the Seccy of the DOH and say a few words in support of the MC program, and the people that work there. Anyone who cant find medicine and cant grow their own should call and request that another MC patient be allowed to grow for them. And finally, no MC patient should have to rely on the Mexican cartel bandits for their supply. There are plenty of good AMERICAN criminals that grow top shelf twine here in New Mexico and they are not too darn hard to come by. I support freedom and America 100% and also our bearded grow boys.

Just my two cents. I hope that you at least get a kick out of the post if nothing else.

Bob, it has come to my attention that you are a COOL muthaf-cker. After I get my card, Im gonna publicly join you in the good fight. I hope to someday share the peace pipe ( or vape...hehe ) with you one day. It's people like you that truly show the world that we are not a bunch of doped up dregs to society.

Thanks brother! It is very much appreciated. It is so cruel and sad that we have had to sneak around like DOGS in society because of that wonderful herb. Lots of people have paid a price and now I am very humbled for it to (almost) be over for me. I pray that soon it will be over for society as a whole. No more people will go to jail or have their money taken away for smoking. That will be because people smoked and got involved, instead of smoking and hiding.

The common man, the "dregs of society". Out there in the wind nailing shingles on his house, chopping wood and fixing his old truck. Working in a restaraunt or dong odd jobs. Taping his fucking shoes together with duct tape until payday. The only pinche fun he has in in whole pinche week is a pinche leno and if he gets caught by the cops or his wife it is going to be hell. But he does it anyway because the herb makes it better for a while.

Been there and done that. I remember it well. I am going to feel guilty when I hear of some poor guy like that. I hope he gets a card soon.

I'd smoke a fatty with ya anytime my friend!

WTG Bob!

In a couple of months I will be pursuing an MMJ card and the possibility of growing my own in the house. I already have my pain specialist on board (actually suggested this to me and hence my desire to pursue this). Have only had MJ once while in school over 25 years ago so this would be entirely new for me. But getting off of the narcotics for chronic pain after multiple surgeries is worth just about anything at this point.

Congrats on your persistence and approach to getting the help that you need!

You are my hero right about now!!!!

Im no hero. I just express myself. My excitement wears off on you and YOU do something about it. Man, YOU are the hero!

I dont know your situation, but for me marijuana fortifies the soul. It becomes your ally. Pain is there, but it does not consume you...now that is about as good as I can explain it. You will definitely be able to REDUCE your pharmaceutical meds for sure and be comfortable.

People should try medical marijuana if they qualify. Why not? It is amost guaranteed not to hurt you, and even if it just makes you a little happier, more comfortable, or just gives you a better perspective on life...it is all a pharmaceutical benefit of a natural herb that you can utilize for pretty darn cheap.

Go for it! If you find any roadblocks I will be glad to do what I can for you.

Bedrock is a cool mothertrucker, solid, like bedrock, haha. Firestarter you HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD. It isn't our fault that we demand better, safer care for ourselves. The CONSTITUTION once gave us the right to ingest WHATEVER substance as long as it did no harm to others. Oh yeah and it's written on HEMP paper, everybody here knows that I would bet. DC was wrong again to even think they could brainwash us all. I,we all, could go on and on and this a fight we WILL win. If it's kind,be kind,PUT IT IN THE AIR!

Enjoy your meds, good job.Especially since you live were you do. That little detail was something that you failed to mention for some reason. How did your efforts go in your hometown Bob? Just like mine have. Don't keep adding to the pile,it's already deep enough. God Bless and people don't be afraid to call what you see as BS.

Correct me if I'm wrong but in another thread about checkpoints didn't you say you've lived in Cruces for 30 years and "know the ropes" ? I also remember seeing that you said you "grew up in Las Cruces". I don't have a beef w/ you Bob. Maybe I misunderstood or read it wrong but I don't think so. I really am happy that you got your card Bud, no matter where you live. I know I came across as nasty and that isn't ME. I have my rag days. That is why I am here. Words really don't mean anything but know that my intent w/ you was not to "attack" you on a personal level. Be well and happy.

You have all of your fact straight but you just cant seem to sort them out. I lived for 30 years in Las Cruces...actually 35. And I did grow up there. That surely does not mean that I can't live in Santa Fe now does it? Or Los Alamos? Or Taos? or Mora? Or Timbuktu for that matter. So my age and experience DO make a difference huh? And just in case you think it is just BS I can assure you I know the ropes...inside and out.

Your assumptions on what you think my situation is are simply incorrect. You accuse me of BS and I have posted nothing but the truth. If you dont beleive that my age and experience means anything, and you cant recognize the plain umvarnished truth when you see it then you are at a great disadvantage.

I posted this for no reason except to inspire people to get their card. I am sorry that you saw a reason to take exception. The next time you accuse someone of lying, try to think about things that you may have not considered. Forums of like minded individuals could be such a source for power. Instead selfish individuals use them to get a kick out of acting tough and spewing a bunch of crap. It diminishes everyone as well as the cause at hand.

My other post was intended to inform those of exactly where and how the checkpoints work and you decided to attack that too. You made no real points ... just criticism of something that a person carrying MJ would find very useful.

You have already stated that you are not a smoker. You are obviously fishing for information by trying to get me to reveal facts about myself. That in itself makes me wonder. I will give you some facts that may make all the difference in the world to you. I am doing nothing wrong or illegal, I always play a straight game, I am backed up all the way across New Mexico with supporters, friends, and influental people in very high places, and I live in a virtual fortress, two of my businesses are hosehold names in New Mexico, I have plentiful resources that I use to suport what I believe in and if anyone attempts to do me harm they are in for the ride of their lives.

Those are some no BS facts that you can ruminate on when you read my posts. You can be assured that I have no reason to BS anyone. If you ever feel that something I post may be the slightest bit fictional or embellished just call me out on it...I beleive that I can explain it to your satisfaction.
