So i've never grown weed before and i thought i'd try it and give it a shot. i was completely new to the whole growing thing but smoked lots and lots but never got the chance to watch the babies grow.

I have a closet setup about 2' wide by 4' long where right now im vegging 5 plants under a T5 4 bulb 2 foot light 6500k 89 w

Im using fox farms ocean forest mix with humboldt nutrient grow and humboldt nutrient bloom. (might need one more mix for micro nutrients?)

I have the light hung about 2-3 inchs from the plants and have not noticed any problems with how theyve been growing and looking great and nice fat leaves.

I have currently 2 whitewidow cross polinated with sensi star that came from seed with huge fat bushy leaves and look great only the first leaves that grew are starting to dip not to sure why.
I also have a White Widow cutting that my friend gave to me which was growing faster than the rest so i used some twist ties to give them a temporary lst so it wont touch the light.
My other too little guys are from seeds my friend. the darker fatter leaves is a Big Bud from seed and the smaller lighter green is a Northern Lights.

i don't know how everything gonna work but id like to do it with the people that know there stuff the best.:rastasmoke:

Hey,
good luck with all of that man. Its just a process and it will take a little while so have patience. They are lookin great so far, just keep doing what your doing and dont forget to smoke with them when they're old enough :rastasmoke:

the only thing im concerned about right now is for budding. i plan to switch up the bulbs on my t5 from the 6500k veg bulbs too the 2700k bloom bulbs then hang two cfl's down one on each side and hope for the best. could this produce some nice buds or more light?

superskunk1
01-25-2010, 08:24 AM
well depends on the watts of the cfls and the t5's, it is said that 5,000 lumens per square feet is enough.

While jorge cervantes says that 10,000 lumens per square feet is what you want.

I have one plant under 12 26w 2700k CFL bulbs and i still think its not enough.

Note: that this plant is inside of an 18gallon bin

edit: oops just saw that your setup was 2' by 4' i would definitely look into getting more bulbs for flowering as you will not be happy with the results unless you increase the lumens

thanks for the posts back, yea i realize i will probably need more light for bud definitly im not trying to grow too big of plants im trying to keep them under 3 feet if possible. ive been thinking mostly trying to do lst to maximize what i can produce.

Looking good, Gare! Study up, make informed choices about how you want to operate, and I bet you'll end up with some killer budz.

01-26-2010, 07:20 PM
thanks for all the posts back. There growing nice not sure sure about the WW it seems really stunted and not growing well. ill post more pics later today.
Another question i have is about nutrients. i have the humboldt organic grow and bloom but also have the forxfarms grow big nutrient. which do you think would work better the humboldt grow and foxfarm grow? ive already been using the humboldt but havent seen anyone post about results from it. has anyone had good results with the foxfarm and recommend to just use that instead?

Gare0440
01-26-2010, 08:56 PM
one more question. i use 24/7 lighting does this make a difference in how fast they grow? should i be using 20/4 18/6? what do you think. i know its a low watt and wont cost much to run. what do you guys think?

caregiver420
01-26-2010, 09:20 PM
I say keep them in 24/7. Florescent bulbs are blinking on and off too fast for our eyes to see, but in reality they are only emitting photons half of the time. You have a killer florescent fixture, but those plants still benefit from all the light they can get without a high intensity source.

edit: I can't help you with the nutes though, as I'm new to using proper fertilizer myself.

Plants are looking good

Maybe you spilled some nutrients on that one leaf? As long as the new growth looks healthy it shouldn't be anything to worry about.

As for the nutes, stick with one brand and don't mix them. If you decide to use Fox Farm, you will need 3 different ones, check their website for the feeding schedule. Also the FF nutes tend to be a little strong, you could dilute them to half strength and feed twice per week instead of once at full dose.

Happy growing

sounds good big topp
so 2 things now. 1 its odviously not bad but i was looking at new growth on the bigger plant of the pictures and its got 9 leaves as opposed to 7? its probably normal and the plants doing fine but what causes this?
2nd i pulled up that pot today and looked underneath and theres roots appearing out of the bottem of my pot. do these short and bushy plants need extra room for there plants to grow? they are all in about 1.5-2 gallon pots cant remember exactly

Well iv seen plant with 11 before, so 9 isn't a big deal. Its probably a genetic thing in the seed, but nothing to worry about. As far as roots growing out from the bottom, i wouldn't be surprised, because they are growing very fast IMO. If i were you i would keep an eye on them, because your going to need to transplant at some point. While there in veg and you see new growth your ok, but i would re pot before you flower:thumbsup:

Gare0440
01-29-2010, 11:39 PM
yeah i was so surprised by the root system when i transplanted it at first. I feel like that plant is gonna be a fat bushy beaut and am praying that its a female. i would like to just toss it in a huge 5 gal jug and try and scrog it and see what happens:thumbsup:

bigtopsfinn
01-30-2010, 08:27 AM
When the roots grow out the bottom it's usually a sign that you need to transplant, but from the looks of your last pics I think that's a it's little early. Maybe there was some water on the surface underneath the pots and the roots were stretching for water? Anyways, once they dry out you can just just to see if it's rootbound.

I'd look into some 3 gal pots before putting them into 5 gals. It's not totally necessary but will make for a nice and dense root structure. Scrog sounds like a good idea to me

Gare0440
01-30-2010, 11:25 PM
so i just picked up this stuff called sensa spray for foliage. ive been spraying my leaves a few times a day with water and figured a good nutrient would help. has any one used this ever? if so how often and when should i use it?

cant wait for it. i picked up the bushy guy earlier and there was 2-3 roots commin out each hole lined around the bottem. shoulda snapped a pick of it, looked solid. just transplanted the 2 into 3 gal pots. will that hold me off through bud? or bigger?

so the leaves in that 3rd picture are really droopy. i gave them about a 26oz cup of water when i transplanted into the 3 gal pot. am i underwatering or over watering? the t5 put out no heat so im scared to water well becasue the soil takes time to drive out. some of the new growth is curling around and in as it dips down. everything is looking healthy so i dont think its nutrients. anyone?

Gare0440

I don't like topping because of the long recovery time. But I learned how to Scrog from this guy: http://boards.cannabis.com/closet-cabinet-growing/52326-lovely-ladies.html and he tops them 3 times while also doing LST. Personally, I think LST is enough to start with, and once they get tall enough you can add the screen.

looks good, dont know if it will flower under cfl. Start trying them down now for lst. You coulds veg these pups in LST and try to come up with a 400w or 600w hps set up while they veg. then put them to flower. thats if your not in a big hurry. dont mix different brands,

the plants are doing good, i trimmed off some of the leaves to expose the light to the big bushy guy but ir also got underwatered so its recovering. i added 4 2700k 42 watt cfl's with 2 why splitters and 2 lights in each fixure with the 4 6500k veg bulbs in the t5 4 bulb 2' light. my closet is about 19,000 lumens now hoping for some good stuff. here are some more pictures, i dont know if im gonna fallow through with the lst but i topped all my plants 2 days ago. here are some new pics

heres some more pics for the viewing. first is the white widow followed by northern lights than sensiwhitewidow mix and a big bud. the big buds leaves area little iffy. i am feeding all my plants a small solution of nutrients less that 1/3 recommended since humboldt organic has such concentrated i figured id start small and they were all healthy. this is only happening to the big bud and none of the others. its not the light because as you can see the whitewidow higher but doing good. could it be too little of nutrients? is it time to feed them full dose? please let me know:thumbsup:

well i put my hands next to it and its not like incredibly hot but warm im guessing no warmer than 75-80. i do have a fan but run it for a short bit every day multiple times its just loud and annoying. if it was heat wouldnt the taller ones be burning too? thanks for the post back

LetsSeeYa
02-12-2010, 12:13 AM
Sometimes you can get a heat pocket, but with a fan moving air will help if this is the problem. You could get a cheapy for 5 bucks at wally.

that girl in the first pic did you determine what the problem with her is? I would try and trim away some of the dead leaf(if it actually is dead). However it may stun the plant since you just started flowering.

Gare0440
02-21-2010, 06:48 AM
haha i did, sadly enough to say it was lack of nutrients i feel kinda dumb. i really havent given these plants the right doses of nutes. not too much because i was scared of how concentrated the humboldt nuts are and how overnuting is a big problem but i guess under is just as well

Gare0440
02-21-2010, 08:31 AM
also noticed i had some spider mites appearing on my plants. i picked up azamax from a local hydro shop. i was gonna go with neem oil but he said this is great and its worth the cost. i mixed up a spray bottle with a little bit and sprayed all the foilage under and on top and all around my plants. anyone ever used this and know how often to use and the effectiveness as well as the potency? thanks

so my plants have been in bud since 19th todays the 23. today will be day 5, i've been checking everyday since i started 12/12 for male/female how long does it typically take to show the signs?

Gare0440
02-24-2010, 01:25 AM
i know ive been posting alot but its the first grow and im trying to make sure i get the best possible knowledge from all you guys because i like a good smoke and thats what im going for. i spaced out the plants a little to give them more room to grow and breath, i felt like they where claustrophobic and didnt get the room they need. do i have the right idea? or should i keep them confined in a smaller area?

Gare0440
02-25-2010, 08:19 AM
been a few days since some good quality pics so i thought id throw some in since i finally got the chance. still havent determined the sex of the 3 plants from seed but hopefully soon. day 6 of bud, i just turned the light off and will come on at 12 am. :rastasmoke:

my plants have been i bud 8 days now. ive transplanted all my plants atleast twice 3 into 3 gallon pots and 1 into a 5. all my 3 gallon pots are showing lots of roots popping out of the bottem. what do i do in terms of transplanting? theres still atleast 8 weeks of growth and i know they will get root bound.. pleasssee help assaaap:mad::mad::mad:

You are already well into flowering. At this point i wouldnt transplant. It will cause unwanted stress and will do far more damage then keeping them in an already good size pot. Your plants look great. In the end they are weeds and weeds are hard to kill even if your trying.

If your going to scrog id be doin it very very soon as those plants are going to start shooting up trying to get more light. Keep up the great grow. Ill be tuned in for sure.

that is the only stuff that will get rid of fungus gnats in your soil...good stuff!

i always use neem and Dutch master Penetrator together and that will kill the mites...i save the Azamax for the hard to handle critters when they do come around!

you want roots...so if a few are coming out the drainage holes it is a good sign of a healthy root zone!

I was planning on finishing my grow in 3 gallon buckets. Yours look great right now. What's the final verdict, do you wish you'd upsized?

Also, when did you start giving nutes? I just transplanted out of red cups into 1 gallon pots and I'm using FFOF soil. So far my girls don't even look like they NEED nutes. I've also got molasses for when the time comes... whenever that is.

2 gallon for me two i went with a five last harvest and my buds now are on day 19 they look like day 30 compared to my last i think im getting it down slowly but surely

Gare0440
03-01-2010, 07:49 AM
thanks for all posts appreciate them all. the lights are going off in about 20 minutes going on day 11 of bud. im gonna leave the plants all in the 3 gal pots except the one big bud thats in a 5. didnt mean to get the 5, just couldnt tell the difference :stoned: i trimmed up some of the lower branches today to focus the growth on the strongest tops for nice dense colas hopefully.

along with all the good news i feel kind of stupid about the way my lighting was operating.
i converted one 2 prong outlet into a 3 with a seprate add on plug, once that was settled i was than able to plug my 3 prong extension card into and connect all my lights into the outlets.
I have one T5 that puts out 90 w of fluorescent lighting, along with that i have 2 fixtures that are split twice each. in each fixture theres 2 42w cfl's 2700k's and 1 29 w 2700k's

this is roughly about 400 watts of cfl's going into one 2 prong outlet.
I didnt notice the difference as i slowly added bulbs but it really did make a difference.
I switched the outlet into my surge protector outlet with a switch and about 8 outlets. the bulbs lit up so much and i could notice the difference very easily.

wish i would have known eariler! i bet this would of made a big difference in the growth of my plants
i keep going on and on but heres the pics. trimmed up and sprayed down again with some azamax, i still noticed a few spidermites kickin around

So today is exactly 2 weeks i notice pistals are comming in on my WW cutting and looking nice but slowly. as for the other plants still no signs of sex? I've been trying to think of what it could be? along with no sex the plants don't seem to be growing much higher at the moment.
I considered that maybe that because i didn't run a fan and i kept my closet closed for a majority of the time that this could be the cause?
I also thought maybe because i haven't been giving these plants the correct full doses of nuts that they needed threw veg stunting them for there bud process.

At this point i'm scared the sex will show and i will end up with some hermies because they've been so stunted.
Ive checked out others grows and by week 2-3 there pistols are popping everywhere compared to what i have.

Any feed back would be nice this is my first grow and trying to learn from it:cool:

I run my girls at 24/0 and when I want to see pistils I put them in the dark for 36 hours and then run a 18/6 lighting schedule until pistils are clearly visible. It usually only takes about 2-3 days after 18/6 schedule for pistils to show. Be patient and positive and i've learned that comparing to other people grows only stresses you out haha. Atleast thats how it works for me as well as motivation to get results. Stick to the 18/6 those pistils are coming it is strange that they haven't appeared after two weeks. There are no light leaks right? Make sure you really get in those girls and check the stems well for herms.

Your plants look nice and healthy, nice work :) I wouldnt worry about them getting "root bound". I grew a 5 ft tall plant in a 2 gallon bag and it grew perfectly. What I noticed is that you have to feed them more often. Yield was not affected at all. It did get a little top heavy however and needed to be supported as it wanted to just roll over on me :/ It was an experiment and the conclusion is that small pots do not effect yield but do become a hassle when the buds get heavy and want to tip the plant over...bigger pots for more base support. :rastasmoke:

yeah they do:thumbsup: i was also thinking about it today. my nute schedule tells me too cut out on the grow formula during budding which is 3-1-3 the others for bud are 0-10-0 which is the grow plus the duece duece which is 0-0-22 could it be because theres no nitrogen in my mix now? im going off the feeding schedule here HUMBOLDT NUTRIENTS FEEDING CHARTS (http://www.humboldtnutrients.com/yum.html) moderate 10 week.

Plants dont need all that nitrogen when its in bud. Plus if you are still giving N close to harvest your weed will tase bad. Stop all nutes at least a week to 10days before you harvest. Trust me, my weed was killer, but taste real bad.

Good luck man:rasta:

i hear yea man. yeah i know about flushing but not exactly when to start or exactly how much water to give my plant with 3 gal pots, time for a little research. lotsa good info on this site

Taper the nutes off the last 3-4 weeks, with the last 10 days or more being water only. Be real carefull with the powerful bloom formula's they create growth but not necessarily better bud.

Your looking great for T5's.

yeah man its sweet. im just a youngin and a first timer but its cool to understand how the buds form and once chopped and will dry out and tighten up to give you those buds most people need to buy. :rastasmoke:

so my leaves continue to turn yellow as the flowering goes on but dark sports form and they continue to go green to yellow. Ive been looking up defencies.

all i can guess for now is too little nitrogen because my feeding schedule for humboldt oranics line says cut out the grow formula 4 weeks into flower and thats the only source of nitrogen?

If not nitrogen my second guess was potassium or maybe both together. i feed my plants duece duece which is 0-0-22 along with bloom which is 0-10-0. they tell me 2 ml per gallon of the duece duece but i think it may need some more

Any help is nice thanks guys:rastasmoke:

Sorry, I'm not the best problem solver, so can't really say if it's just a lack of Nitrogen causing the brown spots and clawing (I could understand the yellowing). Have you seen others using these nutes having the same problems?

Check your ph going in and coming out, and start a new thread in the plant problems section with the troubleshooting form filled out + pics of the affected areas and the whole plants... maybe some of the smarter guys can help you out.

If its just on some of the older leaves I wouldn't worry about it too much...

hmm well if all your plants are female and you have no hermie's then you may have some fem NL light seeds now but im not sure on how you get fem seeds but if you had a male in there that got to the NL then it might have got ot the others to really nothing you can do about it now but just keep them growing but very nice buds man:jointsmile::thumbsup:

Lack of light to the leaves in later stages of bud will cause them to yellow...Along with the lack of nitrogen. Don't worry...when my girls start to yellow I get excited...Almost time to harvest!

so where at 52 days exactly. i flushed the ww on 50 to give an update with that
last night was a little crazy so to say... my timer got unplugged and it powers all my light so around 8 the lights went out for probably 20 minutes
since i had to reset the timer i forgot it would restart my 12/12 time so i was gonna tell my self to turn them off at the normal time but i forgot and left them on till 630 when i woke up and started trippen.

thats almost 19-20 hours of light so an extra 7-8 hours. they got 4 hours of darkness.

Whats the chances that i have possible hermie and or what should i expect?:(

So here we are at exactly day 57, I have had my friends very nice digital camera and have been snapping pics with it for the past month atleast but have never been able to up load them until now
I ended up chopping down my white widow. in the end the strain i got was from a friend and was called perma frost. Its a nice strain fast flowerer in my opinion fluffy super crystally and looks like it gonna pack a punch:thumbsup:
So get ready for a bunch of pics from that past month. this camera really lets you see the buds and trichomes inaction:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Enjoy:rastasmoke::rastasmoke:

this first sense is my sensi star that has been flushed for the past 4 days. gonna wait till the soil completely drys and chop. 6 gallons of straight tap water have been ran threw this

Perma frost. here it is pretty much dried out. now time to start curing it up.
im impressed with it for my first grow. oneplant in a 3 gal pot from cutting under cfl's and floro's = about 1.5 - 2 oz im guessing.

Its gonna be a tasy smoke i hope. the smell has disappeared but im sure it will comeback after the curing process.
Let me know how it looks :rastasmoke::thumbsup:

cleaned out my closet and took down my setup figured id show you guys what i was working with. in a 22" wide and 26"long with panda plastic on the walls for extra light. ill tally up what you see in the pic

-4 42 w cfl's 2750 lumens each
-6 26 w cfls 1750 lumens each
-t5 4 bulb 96 w about 9500 lumens total 6500k bulbs
-t5 4 bulbs of 3000k
-2 clamp lamps
-1 lamp
-7 y splitters

i progressively added the cfl's over time into flower and thats what i came up with. for 2 plants i which i had bigger pots instead of 3 gals. especially for the light, they had a lot of potential to get much bigger.

enjoy:thumbsup:

Well it came to a end...

This idea had came to me just for fun, getting a few seeds, germinating, planting and hoping for the best under 1 125w plant light from fred myers haha. Tin foil on my walls. it was bad. the first pic u see is from what came to it, than my roomates dog got to it and completly ripped it too shit and put soil all over the house, this is after i had learned about FFOF and transplanted that day about 30 minutes before this whole scene.
pretty much those plants where shitty and right after that i realized if i want it to work i needed to put some actual money and effort into it instead of 40$ in material

I went out to a local hydro shop, bought a T5 4 bulb 2 foot and had this hanging off the close rack in my closet. At first it power 8 plants that i had. 5 sensiwhite widows that you see as the last plant i chopped. 1 BIG BUD, 1 Northern Lights both from a seed company online. 1 was from cutting i thought it was whitewidow but as it came to bud it turned out to be a permi frost, my friends cuttings where scattered at the time.

I kept these plants going after about 2 weeks i gave 4 sensi's away to my friend who gave me the NL and BB whos runnin a hydro setup and gladly took them.

This left me with 4 and ended up giving away my BB to another buddy leaving me with 3. during veg i gave my plants very little nuts hopeing to not nute burn early on, i really needed to add more in my opinion. I feel i overnuted during bud a little just not feeding properly. Too soon or too late.

My favorite part about this whole process was i feel i fucked with my plants alot, and stressed them, I had heard grabbed this sensa spray from the hydro shop sprayed a little on my plants in veg not knowing it was for bud. all 4 i gave to my friend turned out female. my other friend that took the BB female. thats 7 plants from female beings stressed and tampered with a lot its funny how that worked for me
its probably not just the product but who knows? i feel lucky for that.

Enjoy it guys ill be around and a new grow commin around soon. Smoke upp!!!!!!:rastasmoke::rastasmoke::rastasmoke:
