Hi,
I originally posted this thread in the Oregon forum but am also posting it here as it might receive more visibility in this area of the website.
I'm currently living in a midwestern USA state which doesn't allow for medical marijuana, and I might be offered a job in Oregon in the near future.
8 years ago I was sitting in the passenger seat of an automobile when it was hit on the passenger side by another vehicle. This accident happened in a foreign country where hospital records are scarce. To make a long story short, some of the organs which help my stomach digest food haven't been the same since this accident, with 5 hour long bouts of horribly severe nausea and vomiting sometimes occurring after eating a meal. I therefore don't eat much anymore!
I've been prescribed anti-nausea medications while overseas (Antivert, Bonine, and Altarax) as well trying motion sickness medications such as Dramamine which are also supposed to prevent nausea and vomiting.
None of these medications worked. The last doctor I saw (while overseas) suggested that I try smoking some cannabis after eating if I begin to feel like I might vomit. This worked, I've never again had an upset stomach after eating!
I didn't smoke cannabis for over 20 years before having it recommended to me by this doctor, and all I need is 5 puffs or so and then my nausea goes away. My use of cannabis is purely medicinal and not for entertainment purposes. Honest! I have never smoked cannabis while at work, and never will. Honest again!
My first question is: If I became a resident of Oregon, would I qualify for medical marijuana? There are no records of my accident nor of my anti-nausea prescriptions as it happened in a foreign country where recordkeeping just isn't done.
My second question is: How would I go about getting approval for medical marijuana use in Oregon?
My third question is: How might my employer react to the news that I've been approved (hopefully) for medical marijuana?
I don't know anyone in Oregon and therefore don't have an underground source for cannabis in Oregon. Therefore medical marijuana would be my best (only?) hope for survival as the nausea and vomiting without using cannabis simply wears me out too much.
Thanks in advance for whatever input could be provided.
