A friend of mine lives in Attleboro, and her doctor is in RI. She has a very bad form of eye cancer. I have a few questions about this situation.
Since she lives in Mass and her Doc is in RI, can she still get a card in RI? I am assuming she can't.
If she can't, does anyone know how far away Mass is in getting medical marijuana on the books?
If she can, can someone in RI become her caregiver even though she lives in Mass?
I told her I would try to find some answers, so I hope someone can help. Thanks!

I don't know the wording in the RI law for residency, but if someone crosses the state line while carrying it is a federal offense (interstate). Also, since it's illegal in MA, that state's laws could be used against her.

As far as I know MMJ is not on the immediate horizon in Mass. I would not be surprised if it were to happen in the next few years however. It requires state reps and senators to have a passionate interest in passing MMJ laws, as their are many hurdles to overcome (public opinion, increasing size of bureaucracy). In RI we had a State Senator with terminal cancer that introduced the bill and many of his friends and supporters helped the laws get passed.
On the plus side, Massachusetts has decriminalized possession of less than 1/2 ounce marijuana. The penalty is a fine of at least $100. Local towns can also charge a fine in addition to the state fine. Cultivation though is still quite illegal for now.

This link provides information for those out of state looking to be prescribed in RI. Hope it helps. All the best. :)
