Denver water... anyone use it unfiltered for watering?

Do any growers on here use unfiltered Denver water?

I'm wondering if Denver uses chloramines or chlorine for disinfection of drinking water. Does anyone know? I guess chloramines don't evaporate out of the water easily like chlorine does, so it could potentially be a problem for organic growers...

I'm pretty sure Denver uses chloramines as a residual disinfectant in the water... but I can't afford an RO filter now. So, hopefully some of you guys are having success with plain old Denver water?

I do not live in Denver but in the suburbs and use tap water for my growing. I found it's important to let the water settle for a day or two before using. I fill up my water containers and I do not use them for a few days. I do not add nutes to the water till I am going to use it.

There are some strains that seem to do better than others with the unfiltered water. I think some strains are just alittle pickier in regards to PH etc.

For anyone else with chloramine concerns check out Vitamin C. Someone else just recommended it to me on another part of the forum and it's supposed to removed Chloramine. I'm going to do some research and I'll post back with info. This is important for any organic growers growing in Denver on the city water supply!

I do live just north of Denver, but not on Denver water. Also I have an RO filter. I have used for my reef aquarium for years. Thus, I use it for this too. Sorry I can't help you there.

However I've bought many RO filters and cartridges over the years off ebay. I think the newest one only cost me around $135 and came with a DI stage as well. You might consider that.

Yeah, fuck I think I'm going to have to spring for the RO filter... it's only $105. I don't want to have to keep worrying about this, although it is a good idea (not mine).

Yep - although I live outside of Denver (west) supposedly our local water co. uses Denver water; had a buddy check it with his fancy PPM meter - said looks great compared to other locales he has tested (east, north) and didn't really need any special treatment...

Yeah Denver water is not bad as far as TDS goes. My test strips show about 150-200 ppm consistently. ph is a little high usually ranging from about 7.5 - 8.0. My plants did much better once I started ph'ing the water.
I've also confirmed that they use chloramine. I'm not sure how important this is to non-organic gardeners because I don't think its harmful to plants at the low concentrations they use (1-3 ppm). However it will kill the beneficial bacterias in your soil if you are growing organically.

I read that too Lampost.

However I also read that the chloramine can stop root type bugs, some fungus and bacterial issues as well. So, if organic isn't really your concern it can reduce a few nasties. :D
