Dehumidifier

Has anyone used an air conditioner instead of a dehumidifier? I have a portable air conditioning unit and was told that they also dehumidify as well.

My Temp reaches 80 and my humidity levels get extremely high (70-80) when I close the door to my grow, room (which is kind of a necessity or else my whole house starts to smell very interesting :). So I do have room to use the air conditioning unit.
Just wondering if anyone had any advice, I would like to not have to spend a lot on a dehumidifier!

If anyone has any advice on how to control the smell, other than carbon filters added to a ventilation system (right now my ventilation system is opening my door at night) - that would be greatly appreciated - I heard Ozone generators help or Hepa air filters?
Any thoughts?

Well, I'm an ex HVAC contractor, and I can tell you that A/C's do dehumidify, so if you install your A/C, your humidity will go down. 80F for a high in your flowering area is nice, although they say the ideal temp is around 75 --- 80 is no problem. So, my only concern is, and this depends on the size of the A/C unit, how 'cold' it will make it. If you can keep the temp at 70 and above and your humidity is down around the 35-45% range, you've killed two birds with one stone. If the humidity is still too high, rather than making the room colder than 70F, I suggest you get a half of an air conditioner, called a dehumidifier!

Thank you! Just wanted to be sure that Air units do dehumidify. It does get pretty hot in there with doors closed, so Im hoping if I set it to low it shouldn't make the girls too cold!

Dehumidifier is well worth the money I got a real good one for 200 at Home Depot. You can get used on Craigs List for around 50-100. You will use less electric than a A/C unit.

Here the water hangs in the air so heavy all you need is a straw to drink. Stay's 80 to 90 percent most all times. We use both A/C and a whole house dehumidifier in a small room and it just barely brings it down to 40 percent. Mostly because of fresh air venting in.

The A/C may do it if your R/H is not bad.

when i was running my ac it was hard to keep the rh above 40. i went out and got a 45 pint dehumidifier and they can be set to what you want it at. about 130 bucks for a refurb off ebay.
