I'm brand new to the medicinal cannabis world. Have been advised that using a vaporizer might be the answer, as I live in a 55+ complex and the smell of smoking a joint would get me evicted. Also smoking is too hard on my lungs and heart.

Have seen a few kinds of vaporizers with varying prices. Is the "Volcano" worth the price? Any feedback on models that are the easiest to use, preferably without glass, would be appreciated.

Well I know how you feel and I have been shopping for my first medicinal Herbal Vaporizer. There are ALOT to choose from.
What you need to figure out is Who will be using it?
if for personal only use, and you want an efficient Unit (something that wont use up your stash Quickly) I have heard wonders of a vape called Purple Days But it is in very high demand because of its efficiency and effectiveness. close to a 3 month back log. Then there is a vape that is similar called the myrtle-zap but uses a brass heat exchanger and the lead content is unknown so there could be possible health hazards which is why i wouldnt consider it. And I reciently found out about a new similar efficient vape called the Woodeez. A guy named Todd makes these. and currently no backorders. retails around 160 shipped in the states. which is a nice price for a vape that works very well. The purple days use to be sold for 150 but as of april 2009 i believe there was an increase to 180. now all 3 vapes are around the same size as a soda can. and I hear that the vapes are good for stealth read a story on another vaporizer site. how a user was pulled over for his companion not wearing a seatbelt and they just got done vaping, well he just pulled the stem off put it in his pocket and dropped can shapped piece of wood and the cop walked over and made no indication that he suspected or smelled anything suspicious and proceded to bust the passengers balls for the seatbelt and let him off with a warning. From what I understand the smell from vaping is recognisable to another fellow vaping enthusiast but those that dont vape dont know. they might smell something but suspect nothing.

As for other vapes good hitting ones would be like ssv silver surfer vape and the DBV Da Budda Vape and the arizer extreme. i was considering the arizer extreme for myself and was persuaded it was too much machine for just me but it would be good when socializing. As for the volcano I would consider it a definate waste of money. The volcano reminds me of the Vehicle The Hummer model 1 it wastes alot of fuel. while the DBV and SSV and the extreme would be the mid size cars as far as efficiency and the Honda Accord Hybrid would equal the purple days or woodeez for efficiency on Fuel (herb) usage.

I can let ya know from personal experience Yet but come this wed 1/13 I am ordering a woodeez.

Yes, it's easy to get overwhelmed with so many choices. On the other hand, the worst vaporizer is better than smoking, so get one soon, even if it's not the one you're gonna marry (in a matter of speaking). :)

Like 420barista says, a lot depends on how you will use it. You have portable vaporizers, and you have non-portable ones. By non-portable, it's not that they weigh three tons; it's just that they need a power outlet. The portable ones are usually but not always powered by butane. Also, will you use it all the time, or will you use it three times a week? The more you use it, the less you can tolerate the little things that bug you.

If you've been smoking for a long time, I would recommend a Vapor Genie. I've had one for 3 months, and I use it all day long, every day. You can google for all the info on it, and there are reviews about it here as well. I think it's a good way to switch to vaporizing. However, I have decided to upgrade. I got the Vapor Genie while still skeptical about vaporizing; now that I'm convinced, I have ordered a Da Buddha vaporizer (DBV).

Here is why I ordered the DBV and not...

...the Volcano. Price wasn't the issue since I know it will pay for itself sooner or later, but it only blows bags, apparently, and you can't use a whip (the tube to suck vapor from).

...the Silver Surver. Here price was the issue. DBV and SSV are made by the same company, and the SSV has some extra features that I don't need.

...the Vapor Bros. Some people have criticized the air path (goes over the wiring, apparently), but my deal breaker was the downward angle at which the whip goes into the unit. The angle makes the herb fall into the heating unit itself, and some people say that's not a problem, but I decided not to risk it. The DBV's whip enters the unit horizontally. The other thing about the Vapor Bros is that the screen in the whip looks tricky to replace. They have an improved whip, but I don't believe it comes standard.

...any unit with a digital readout. The display is just eye candy, and in most cases does not measure the temperature of the air that goes through the herb. It measures the temperature of the heating element or the air at some other point. The readout is not necessary as you will know where to set the knob as you get to know your vaporizer.

...any small, complex unit with lots of electronics and plastic parts. I prefer the simplest unit possible.

...any unit whose major feature is "hands free." Hands free means that you stick the whip into the vaporizer and it stays there. You then hold the mouthpiece end of the hose and take hits like you were smoking a hookah. So it frees up one hand, but after a few hits, you have to take the whip out to stir the herb up anyway, so I don't see much point to hands free.

Ok, so that was how I narrowed it down. Hope it helps! :)

This thread has been very helpful for me. I've wanted a proper commercial vape for ages, I just dont have the money. I made a light bulb vape a couple of months ago and WOW I think its the best way to smoke(well your not really smoking it, your inhaling the vapours). I noticed that the high was different from smoking from a pipe/bong/joint... it wasn't better or worse, just different. I heated the bulb too close to the neck and it cracked, then I cracked another bulb that I was using to make another one out of...I hav'nt bothered to make another one yet.

four years ago i bought a VaporCannon for $150 which includes a warranty. it has performed flawlessly for me. my buddy liked it so much that he got one. after a year he had a problem. the customer service was great and replaced it for him, no questions asked.

i highly recommend a VaporCannon if a Volcano is out of your price range like it is for me. if you have $500-600 to blow then def go with a Volcano... they are the Lexus of vapes!

what ever you do, do not get one that heats on a plate. make sure it is the kind that heats by pulling warm air over the plant material and not from direct contact with a heater.

hope this helps!

Well I agree with your saying dont get a vape that heats on a plate.

I got one in the 1990's and it was so ineffecient. Sadly i see they still make them. what they look like are snow globes(without the snow and water) with a soldering iron inside and instead of a soldering tip it was a metal plate on the top of it for where the herb goes. Avoid these vapes like a plague.

A Vaporcannon? seen those too but read alot of articles on various different boards and from what I read those that had a vaporcannon like devise and switched to a better recommended product like a purple days type vape or da buddah or silver surfer type and end up selling their vapor cannons because they sucked in comparison. Dude im not trying to insult your purchase but do some reading like I did and see for yourself.

Today I put my order in for a woodeez (which is a purple days knockoff) and it should be shipped out on the 22nd hopefully to arrive by the end of the month. I can then let you know how well it works. but from all the research I did I know i will be happy with this purchase.
