personally i use cannabis to deal with a stomach issue. it seems to help a multitude of people with a multitude of things. something that's always confused me is how some people use it for pain. i recently passed a kidney stone and found out that smoking didn't help with that in the least. it also helps less and less with my depression every day. maybe i'm just high and bored but i was wondering what some of you guys use cannabis for and if you have any stories about trying it for something it didn't help with.

For me, I have severe spasms in my lower back due to 2 herniated discs and a good, strong indica really reduces the frequency/intensity of those. I am always in pain and would say that mj does'nt really address that directly. What it does do is help take my focus off of the constant aching. I think the most important thing for me is that no matter how bad my back is acting up, I know a couple bong tokes of my current favorite indo at the end of the night will have me off to nite-nite land in a jiffy. Word!

I have the same lower back issues. Spasms are always there. I have found a few strains that did have numbing properties that were wonderful (except the tingly lips). :D However mostly it reduces the spasms and relaxes me enough to allow them to loosen. Then a little time in a roasting bath and a strong indica to keep me down while I recover(not easy to keep me in one spot very long). Next day I can work again.

I like to remind people that Tylenol and Ibuprofen are both anti inflammatories not pain killers. They reduce swelling thus reducing some pain. So, this (in most cases) doesn't do so much for the pain directly. It reduces the spasms that cause the pain in the first place. Those spasms cause pinched nerves in my back as well. So stopping the throb is vital.

Also very useful in calming me if I get "worked up". Many people use liquor for that. However my family doesn't take well to the hooch.;)

As for things it doesn't help with? I don't think it has any long term positive effects on depression. It's known to increase dopamine levels on the short term. However your body can only create so much of this. Once you overuse to keep your mood up, you could see your levels drop when you run out and that gland runs dry(so to speak).

I use it for multiple reasons. It's a definite mood enhancer for me. I also use it for my constant aches and pains...it doesn't take it away for me - it dulls it (much like my post) and makes it manageable. I was in a car accident in December and really tweaked my neck on down to my hips. A year ago, I would have gladly popped a few vicoden or oxys, and then been worthless and then sick afterwards. I picked up a 1/4, stayed high throughout, and I was able to function but with some pain. Like I said, it was manageable.
Also helps when I'm nauseous, if i'm a pain in the ass, moody...it's the best.

i really don't like resorting to cannabis for my problem. i've had something similar to cyclical vomiting syndrome since 2002 and no doctor has been able to do anything for me. i told them numerous times that when i got high it helped. even if that only gave them an idea for another drug i was up for it but they came up with nothing. so i continue to get high. it's kinda put my life on hold cuz i can't really get a job unless i'm willing to be high at work everyday. not to mention traveling. my god! it sucks to go back home to tennessee to visit and have to try and find whatever i can.
i think mmj just kinda diverts my attention from my stomach. i know it's supposed to have things in it that help but if i'm not thinking about being sick i'm less sick or not sick at all. it used to help with the depression but now all it helps with in that area is to keep me from dreaming.
even if i were miraculously healed i don't think i'd quit smoking weed. i'd probably move back home and they're not a mmj state so i wouldn't have my care but as long as i'm not as snobbish as i am now it won't be a problem finding it.

Not to be an Ahole. :D

But the question asked in the first post of this thread wasn't so much what you use it for, as much as what you've found it DOES NOT work on. He sounds interested in what we find it useful for, But wants to know what it doesn't help with.

So far, I'm the only one to answer regarding what I found it didn't work on (depression).

Just thought I'd point it out for justinsane's sake, and before it's all about defending or justifying an illness instead of answering the question, What does it NOT help with.

P.S. I tried a lot of things to try and make this post non-threatening or insulting to anyone. ;) Sorry if I didn't do a good job. I'm not really awake yet.

Peace! :hippy:

My medical condition that I recieved my referal for was IBS, naseau but the Dr checked cronic pain.

I find most strains of marijuana works for my IBS, sativas seem better for Naseau. My pain for the IBS is a spasm and its a different type of pain than lets say pack pain.

I also suffer from lower back pain (old atv accident) and migraines. Now I have trouble finding strains that help my back pain, some strains seem to make me focus even more on the pain. Ice is a great strain for migraines.

I guess my point is there are alot of different types of pain. Medical MJ helps with some more than others. You also need to sample different strains. Indicas seem to been the pain killers more than sativas for me.

Just remember the marijuana does not cure your condition it just helps you tolerate it more. Like any other medication it does not work as well for some people as well as it does for others.
