I want to start my first hydro grow. Its going to be in a closet and i was wondering if this start up kit would work and if I would have to buy anything else? HYDROPONIC DRIP KIT, HPS GROWLIGHT AND NUTRIENTS PH KIT - eBay (item 150403231665 end time Jan-13-10 09:05:32 PST) (http://cgi.ebay.com/HYDROPONIC-DRIP-KIT-HPS-GROWLIGHT-AND-NUTRIENTS-PH-KIT_W0QQitemZ150403231665QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_Def aultDomain_0?hash=item2304bb2fb1)

I'm on a budget and I would rather not have to build anything as its my first time so a start up kit seems like the best idea.

I was also wondering what I could grow with that light. It's only 150W so I'm assuming something like 4 max? How much more light would I have to get to grow 6?

Thanks for the help guys

You would prolly need 2 of those lights to do 4 plants, and then they better not be too large by the time you flower them.... but it would depend on the size. I have a friend who had a greenhouse 16 ft wide and 32 ft long in the back of his wooded 5 acre farm. He told me that greenhouse would only hold 6 plants! But they were big ones!
TRUE STORY:
In fact they were getting so big, that two or three of them were pushing up against the glass roof. So my friend got a ladder, and cut the top off them so they wouldn't break the glass. So he had 3 or 4 branches that he took back with him to the house. He went around the back of his barn, leaned a 2 x 8 against the wall and put his branches on it to catch some sun and dry the buds on them. Three days later he checked on how the drying was going. To his dismay, they were all gone! He was pretty excited since he hadn't seen any strangers, besides who would have stolen them. It was a mystery till he went around the side of the barn and saw his prize bull laying on the ground barely breathing! He couldn't do anything for him, and left him laying there, but very worried. My buddy told me the bull just laid there for 3 days and then finally got up, but was never the same again!

or instead of 2 of those lights you could pick up a 400w cooltube for around $100 and be set but then you would need to exhaust the heat.

im a fan of my 600 but just my :twocents: and heat WILL be an issue
if you play with ANY higher wattage HPS systems..
but i think i could comfortably grow 6 plants in my grow instead of 10-15...
just a thought

If you can and I know your on a budget. Get the biggest ballast you can. There are some good deals. You can put any size bulb you want in a ballast as long as the ballast is equal or bigger. One bro run a 250hps in a 400 ballast am another runs a 400mh in a 1000 switchable ballast for veg.

Later on if you want to exspand your setup it would be easy to just get a bigger bulb. You will thank yourself and if you want to get rid of it later for some reason I find the bigger lights are easier to sell.

Remember the hotter the sun the more TRICHOMES.

Thanks for all the info guys. Just a few more updates I will be growing small auto flowering crops. Most likely either lowryder #2's or diesel ryders or something along those lines. Do you guys have any links or anything for where I could buy a cheap 400w HSP or any setup that would work with a kit like that.

Thanks
