When Activism Brings Trouble

I have had an issue for some time now.

I am quietly active in the quest to change marijuana laws in my country. But how far is too far?

Being a grower, if I put myself 'out there', am I asking to be watched? Or to have my name put on a List?

Please note, I would absolutely spend time in custody if it was for something I believe in....but I am also a single parent. Jail is one thing; living apart from my children is another. I worry the authorities would deem me an unsuitable parent and take at least my youngest away. I may believe in the cause, and support it....but is it a choice I have to make? Be a strong activist who only tokes but doesn't grow or have children? Or be a toker, grower, mom and stay away from activism?

The second choice seems like a copout. People have been putting their butts on the line for me and fellow tokers; I should be doing the same. And given that I am Canadian, I face lesser penalties than an American would (correct me if I am wrong).

Does anyone else out there concern themselves with any of this?

There are always risks when you put yourself in LEO's crosshairs. You just have to weigh the risks and be prepared if it happens. Its sad to think that this where we've all come to. That we fear law enforcement and the government more than we fear terrorists and murderers.

There will be time later when the kids are grown, your first responsibility is to get them to adulthood with a parent beside them.

You are a parent and a grower. The bottom line is your a parent first and you know that this plant is no threat to you or your family. It's not like this plant grows claws and attacks your children. Although this plant does attract some nasty predators who want to take your whole house, your children, and everything your life.

Hey, you know something cannabis taught me an important lesson on how to keep predators at bay. We need to work together and send off signals to each other, warn each other if you are threatened.

There are two ways to fight the "war" on "drugs" --

1. civil disobedience
2. activism

In general, they're better kept separate, especially if the consequences of being imprisoned would be unconscionable (losing one's children).
