Hello fellow growers,
Ok I have been growing For about 5 years, and in the last year have gotten serious about it. I have been sucessfull with the use of a soiless mix in 5 gal buckets useing flora Netrients, n koolbloom. I recently started doing some research into Deep Water Culture. I am a hands on learner so I have Blacked out a 5gal. bucket and put a net pot in the lid and am currentlygrowing a small NL clone in it. I have noticed rapid growth in the last week and although am impressed with the new growth .. it's very yellow and take a couple days to green up... Is this normal? I'm New so any helpfull advice from somone with experience in DWC would be apreciated. I use the same flora neutrients grow/micro/bloom... and intend to flower useing Koolbloom.

I dont have a PPM meter but keep my ph between 5 and 6. I plan on putting in a full DWC flower box ifthis proves frugal.

Whats up...

First, a PPM meter is very important. The yellowing then back to green sounds like the plant is running out of nutes then greens when you finally give it more. With a PPM meter you can keep it dialed in on the healthy amount. If you had pics it would be easier to identify if there is a problem.

A PH pen also helps to keep the ideal PH of 5.6 - 6.0 if I remember correctly. From my experience hydro is much more critical for the ideal range of PH compared to soil so keeping it at around 5.8 is best.

aye PH is critical in Hydro. What kind of light you got it under? how old is clone? how long has clone been showing roots? and yup pics would help :thumbsup:

The clone is 5 weeks now its been showing roots outside the net pot for 2 weeks.

ok 2 more things...... what size light and distance from plant? what is your mixture ratio for nutes?

I have it about 6 inches from a CFL fixture with 4ea 100w full spec bulbs... its getting bushy now. nuets, I am useing Flora Grow 3tsp per gal... flora bloom 1tsp. per gal... an flora mico 2 tsp. per gal. and nothing else so far. I shoul mention that for the next month i'll be on a limited budget so I am doing the best with what I got.i have about 4 gallons of water in the 5 gallon bucket. wate temp says in the low 60's

cool your using GH 3-part ( I use same ) and if I'm not mistaking your following mix off bottle which will work fine either that or it is the Lucas mix ( cant remember I dont use either lol ) from what your saying it seems like things are starting good for ya. I can understand the cash flow restriction so next time your at walmart or such pick up the biggest bottle of H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) just in case roots start turning a lil brown. Been doing alot of reading on root rot and seems no matter what you do there is a good chance of having some level of it when doing DWC but is controlable.

I do followthe bottles mixing insructions. and i am adding a powerhead i found to the 5 gal bucket i use now because in the long run thats what i'll use in thge new room i decieded

That is 1 pretty purple plant!
and we are all still noobs to a certain extent, there is no end to learning ........ except maybe Stinky, she might know it all ;)

I cant wait to see how the flower goes fo that NL and look forward to trying the Blue Budah in the dwc
I have Dutch treat and Blue buddah and White rhino lined up in the cloner now and am eger to get them rootted I built my own cloner Its a 18 gallon steralite with plugs in the top i made from a water noodle ... lol and it has a pond submersable pump with some 1 inch pvc haloed and tapped with 360 sprayers 6 ea. it holds 35 plugs and I can easilystart the clones on neuts right where they are (once rooted) and add moe directy light to get them ready for the tubs i think. Your feedback welcome on this idea.

your cloner sounds like 1 I found plans to on a diff site and plan on building as soon as budget can afford. going to build a small bubble cloner for now. As far as starting a veg cycle in the cloner tub I reall dont see why it wont work, in fact I plan on doing the same thing once I get my basement grow room finished. Are you placing rooted clones directly into Hydrotron or do you also have a Rooter or something in there??

i would say the same as tiny toon sounds like they are not getting enough nutes then turning green when they get enough this unneccasarily stresses out plants and can lead to a decrease in yield if not treated and fixed soon try balancing your nutes a little better and remember to change the solution often enough

So Anyway I forgot to mention That the cost is under 50 bucks to make one. the pump is $20 the pvc and fittinge to put it on the pump about $5 a water noodle is $2 the tote is $10 (ussually less) use a rughneck the plastic is more pliable and cuts well.and paints well, you'll need two cans of blk spray paint $4. as fer tools I used my corlless drill and a 2 inch hole saw .
