Where is Americaâ??s Cannabis Capital? (http://blog.norml.org/2009/12/22/where-is-americas-cannabis-capital/)
By Allen St. Pierre
NORML Executive Director
December 22nd, 2009
Because of the numerous media reports and typical Hollywood hype many close observers would immediately place the city of Los Angeles as Americaâ??s cannabis capital. Or maybe theyâ??d guess that ever-cannabis tolerant San Francisco must be it. Possibly, â??Oaksterdamâ???
But, theyâ??d be wrong.
Based on the size of the populations and number of reported medical cannabis dispensaries by each cityâ??s respective City Council, Americaâ??s cannabis capital isâ?¦.drum roll pleaseâ?¦.
Denver, Colorado!!!!
Los Angeles â?? 1,000 dispensaries for a population of 9,862,049 = 1 dispensary per 9,862 people
Denver â?? 198 dispensaries for a population of 598,707 = 1 dispensary per 3,023 people

i was thinking the same thing. That info could be used to help put the number of dispensary's in check.

This is a reason why I dont fund NORML or any of these other organizations who take it upon themself to make such boisterous claims and draw media attention, all this is going to do is upset people in power, and force them to make actions that nobody wants to see happend. Thanks again for another kick in the pants NORML, when will you learn your half baked attempts are fruitless and damaging far more than they are benefitial......

Let's keep this in perspective...will the local media pick up on this? Doubtful.
I'm not sure why I thought it was neat in the first place, though. I guess I was high.

LOL...honesty is the best policy;) Indeed it is very cool that our state has become one of the leaders in MMJ...but the powers that be read that message a totally different way. They see themselves losing control. A fearful politician is not good to have at this stage of the game. Unless of course he were afraid of losing his office..that
could work in our favor.;)

If the numbers are right, that is 1 dispensary for every 101 patients, assuming that we have ~ 20,000 mmj patients.

Media outlets are reporting both around 30,000 patients and between 60-70,000. Kinda hard to figure out.

It was only 11,000 just 4 months ago with an expectation of 16k by the end of the year... now they claim its 70k??? hahahahah
not to mention they are using thedenver population census bureaus' numbers from 18 months ago.....
Got to love sensationalist journalism!!!!!! even if its not true, its selling papers!!!!

It is good publicity. Get over it that where ever the hell people can get medical marijuana without having to worry about getting in trouble people are going to flock and come out of the woodwork. Just let it blow up and soon enough their will be another state blowing up like cali. then colo. did. Probably New Mexico or Rhode island next. But each state is learning from the last's mistakes of not having regulated co-op's before implementing rules. So they are controlling it more so everytime a new state comes with a law. Who cares? As long as i can get MMJ and not have to worry about jail time, im honestly happy with that. Especially if i can grow my own as my hobby and free medicine.
