i heard that its common for female plants to do this so that the branches dont break when it starts to bud?

It's totally normal, though I'm not positive of the reason for it. Your idea may be right, along with allowing a larger amount of fluid to be transferred.
Don't sweat, everything looks a-okay:thumbsup:

That's your female getting ready to give birth. It's totally normal. She must swell to hold the weight of the nuggets she is going to give you.
I been growing since I was 16 and am now 47. many years of experience with this very question by many.;)

After a further and closer look at your pic provided, this is a female for sure, it may also be a hemie.:wtf: You won't know for sure till you see any balls show up on selected branches, generally the lowest 4-5 only from my past experiences with hermie's. Good luck and watch for the ball sacks on the branches I noted.

With your last pics I didn't see white hairs. How old is it? I am going to guess this is the same plant you write various threads on right? With the color of the pic I can't see so good being color blind probably doesn't help me, but I would say check for light leaks in growing environment and within a few days you should definitely see hairs. How old is this plant? If you force flowered vs growing it out for one/two months till it showed it sex, then it would naturally take longer to show depending on strain etc. patience is hard to have in this hobby huh..? I hate waiting:hippy:
