So its official, I am moving to Colorado on the 14th of January. I know everyone says stay home don't bother but Oklahoma is terrible. We finally have the capital to start a legit grow and even open a storefront. We already signed our lease in Golden and will be moving up soon. I have a few questions... is 4x4 needed in the weather? Isn't Golden a very MMJ friendly city? What places in Denver to avoid? Any tips or any helpful info would be great! thanks in advance!!

i guess it depends on if you live way off a road that the city does'nt maintain. other than that only thing i had to get was a set of nice snow tires,i had mine studded as well as i go over acouple of bad passes sometimes. they do make a diffrence

I grew up here, just a few miles east of Golden, then spent 10 years just WEST of Golden. Personally I've never owned a 4X4. I've had many front wheel drives and even a number of rear wheel only. I've never bought tires better then all seasons and have never been stuck(no offence palerider:hippy:). So, I would agree with palerider in that,.. If you arn't driving down a long dirt driveway or unmaintained dirt road after a blizzard, THIS is likely not going to be an issue. The cities do a pretty good job plowing, and the Mountain roads (the counties maintain) are even better in most storms then the city roads.
As for Golden being MMJ friendly, I have not heard either way. There is a dispensary in Golden, So not as un-friendly as Aurora (east side of Denver metro).
As for where to avoid. I've never avoided ANY of the metro area. Back as a child I was told East Colfax was "riddled" with crime. I don't know if it's any different now (don't think it is) but I've been out there and it was never all that bad. Again an area out by our old airport is called Five points. I was told this was a magor crime neighborhood. Myself and three friends went out there at 1am on a Friday night back in 1989 (when this was said to be worse) and we met some really nice colored folks, had a smoke with them and went home. NOT as scary as the news always made it out to be.
One year on Christmas eve myself and some friends took a case of 1/2 pint plastic Vodka bottles, and a box of cheap cigars, down to the area where most of the transients (bums) live just outside downtown Denver (we also brought a few blankets and spare clothes). We offered each homeless person we found one cigar and one 1/2 pint plus a blanket or clothing article if they needed it. You'd be amazed at how nice these people could be. We hung around and chatted with many of them. More then not they were less interested in the Vodka and more into the cigars.
Point is, I've never found a space that was "to avoid", to be nearly as bad as the media and others act like it is.

Were located on colfax about a half mile east of the denver zoo and we love it. All of our neighbors are very nice respectable people and we love the community, not to mention we got a great supply of headshops within a block of our shop!!!

i'd stay away from aurora but mainly just cuz the cops are pricks. my wife knows a cop that said the aurora police treated blacks and mexicans markedly different from white people. even going so far as to make them get out of the car during traffic stops just as a point of procedure.

Thanks for all the info. We had a few choices in regards to location, Golden, Brighton or near DU. I just hope we aren't too far from the main road. Im really interested in visiting Nederland... hear there are some good dispensaries there. Ill be starting a grow log soon... completed several indoor soil grows but trying aero this time. Do most dispensaries have good clones?

I live downtown near the mission (right behind Peace in Medicine) and I've gotta dodge the crackheads, pimps, prostitutes, spare changers, etc. Especially at night. We've had cars broken into or spray painted. My girlfriend has been followed on a few occasions but nothing serious. But I've never been in any danger. All summer long gang members were beating and robbing whites and mexicans, but they all got rounded up in an FBI sting.
Areas of Five Points can be a little sketchy at night. East Colfax is a little rough around Havana, but not much to worry about. 14th Ave and sometimes 16th Ave (one block off Colfax) from Broadway to Downing in Cap Hill is sketchy at nite. Plenty of people get mugged and beat. I've known a few friends to get jacked. Colfax isn't bad because so many cops patrol it.
Other than that, I know of no other places I'd try to avoid.
If you're going to open a storefront, make sure security is tight because there have been a total of 13 robberies/break-ins in the Denver Metro area this year.
Oh, and Lakewood and Aurora cops are brutal. Travel lightly.
