Questions about HPS and tent...

Sup guys...

Ive been using CFLs and LEDs and am curious to try an HPS for flowering.

My tent dimensions are 31 1/2" x 31 1/2" x 63" tall. My biggest concern is heat compared to LED/CFL. I know it will get much hotter but I plan on using a cool tube or vented hood. Homebox (maker of my tent) says my tent should use a 250w HPS.


Here are my questions:

1) Which cools better? Tube or vented hood?
2)Should I use the 250hps or can I step up to a 400w with the size of the tent?
3)Would a 250w HPS produce better buds than a 90w UFO LED?
4)What size of fan should I use to cool the HPS? I have a 4" inline booster fan that I would like to use. Would it be effective enough?

I run a similar tent, same size. IMO, as long as it's air cooled, a 600W would be the hot set-up. I run a 400 and think a 250 would disappoint in that space. :twocents:

Anyways. How are the temps in your tent using the 400w? Is it aircooled and what type of fan do you use?

I have been looking at 250w 400w and 600w hps setups. For some reason the 250w is way more expensive than the others...

Temps running ~75F with an ambient room temp of ~70.

Reflector is a Sunspot 6, yes, air-cooled. My fan is a 6" Wind Tunnel, also using a speed controller on it. I only run the fan at about 50%. It's more fan than needed, but throttling it down keeps it much quieter than a 4" at full-bore. ;)

I'm running into an issue in my current grow with regard to plant height. A cool-tube gives a little more headroom in a smaller tent. My reflector is nice, puts down a nice pattern, but it eats up a lot of room at the top of a tent.
