what's good everyone? i decided to start a new log and dedicate this to the hempys that i've recently started thanks to being inspired by killa! i will still run the official test log for the wrecked homicide.
on with the show.....
for the buckets themselves i've used old one gallon milk jugs. i put a 1 1/2" hole ~1 3/4" from the bottom of the jug. i then cut out around the handle to make a bigger hole in the top while retaining the handle for use. after that i wrapped them in black electrical tape. the work pretty damn well.
i've been giving some thought to the holes. i don't think they need to be holes at all. they could be a decent sized gap cut out or burnt out with a soldering iron or the instrument of your choosing. if i'm not mistaken the hole is just to create a mini reservior. the placement shouldn't matter all that much either. the higher the hole the bigger the res. with that being said, please keep in mind that these are the ramblings of a mad man and nothing more and should NOT be taken as any type of gospel!!!
also, i think a piece of some sort of screen super/hot glued on the inside of the container would be a help. when the medium gets dry it does fall out. it also falls out when the mini res gets full. it's not terrible, but more of an annoyance. again, this is an OPINION!
as for the medium, i'm working with a 50/50 mix of perlite/vermiculite. i'm using this mix as a starting point as i have read many different opinions on the subject. again, this is not a recommendation. i know killa likes a 4:1 ratio of perl/verm. i've read others like a 60/40 perl/verm split. i just took some cuttings (more on this later) and they will go in killas preferred ratio for comparison. perhaps one of each strain's cutting in one of each perl/verm blend?
now for the setup:
i'm running a 4' x 4' tent thanks to irydyum. thanks again bro! the light is a 400W MH. the bulb is just a plain jane found at lowes. i have a homemade reflector. it's a piece of the old box aka frank for those of you who've been tuning in for a while. i have no exhaust at the moment, but it's not a big deal since the temps recently have been in the 50-60 degree range with sporadic days up to the low 70's. the tent runs anywhere from 11-16 degrees hotter than ambient. i think the hottest it's reached was 86 and usually if it hits the 80's at all it's around 82. it normally stays between 78-89, but sometimes will run as low as 71 with the cool weather. i also have a fan for circulation.
i'm using the tent for flowering, but i move all the veg plants in there during the day because for at least now there is room. when the bloom room goes dark i move them under 16x 23W CFLs most of which are 6500K with ~4x 2700K for a mix (and to fill sockets!).
i'll be using fox farm nutes, reason being is that i still have 1/2 bottle of tiger bloom, an almost full bottle of grow big hydro (not to mention a 2/3 full bottle of grow big soil) and all the soluble powders are almost full still. i need to pick up another quart of big bloom and i think that will allow me to use the majority of the other liquids and a good bit of the solubles.
and now the starts of the show:
***these have been vegged for 33 days***
-1x death by purple (thanks killa!) this is the biggest plant of the bunch. it took FIMing extremely well. it is thick and hearty.
-1x wrecked homicide. (thanks killa again!) this plant has what appear to be genetics issues. it's gnarled and dusty looking. it's also throwing what look to be albino leaves. interesting to say the least. topped nicely.
-1x wrecked homicide clone (obviously killa!) this one looks like basil as it was throwing roundish, non-serrated leaves. it was partially a crazy pH meter as well as too many PPMs with the nutes. it has recenlty stated to grow regular, serrated leaves. it did however top nicely.
-1x g-13labs fem'd diesel (thanks vaped!). this is a squaty bush. it's almost round. the growth is super dense. this one loved being topped!
-1x dinafem fem'd white widow (thanks vaped!) this plant is also a squaty bush and almost round. the leaves on it aren't very big at all, including the fans. it's weird considering all the others have fans bigger than my hands. she's nice and dense. this one also loved being topped!
-1x reserva privada fem'd OG kush. this one started a little tall and lanky, but too well to topping. it has recenlty started to fill out nicely. took well to topping.
***these have been vegging for 20 days in 20oz platic cup hempys***
-3x greenhouse fem'd white widows (thanks irydyum!). these were started behind the rest of the pack. they are about 3" tall but are thick and bush with hardly any spacing between the nodes. their leaves are already bigger than the DWW. i haven't topped/FIM'd yet.
i topped most of them and tried FIM the DBP and maybe another, can't remember. it was my first try. i'll definitely be trying it in the future!
i have taken a 3x DBP, 3x OG kush and 2x WH, DWW & diesel cuttings. i put these in jiffy pellets with in a platic tub. i covered the tub with plastic wrap and placed it on a heating pad due to aforemention temps. it seems to be sitting at about 78F and 81% humidity.
i will be borrowing a aeroponics cloner to compare the differences. i shall report the findings.
that's about it for now. i'm sure i'll think of more later. thanks for tuning in!

really nice grow hope they all come thru with a good amount !!
i have a question headshake
Ive been interested in the hempy buckets for maybe three days now but i have not read were someone explains how to water them i now only know how to make them but how do you water them thru the top ? or is the hoe at the bottom for watering in which you add water in the resovoir. then gets sucked in the container?

it is not local to one branch. it is starting to show up more and more as the plant continues to bush out. it did exhibit it pretty early in growth. it's pretty wicked looking. i'm gonna try to get some clones with the albinoism in there and see what happens.
really nice grow hope they all come thru with a good amount !!

the hole in the bottom is to make sure that you don't over water them. when working with perlite it can float out the top if you have too much water. i suppose that you can water in that hole, but i water from the top... especially when the plants are young as the roots aren't very big.
the perlite and vermiculite have wicking and moisture retention qualities.
i hope i got all the questions for now. thanks everyone for tuning in!
as it turns out i think the DBP is a male, which kind of sucks, but i need another male for breeding purposes. so either way, it's a win. plus i've got a few more of those beans.
there should be some more stuff in the works in the near future. should get interesting!

i've got a quick little update for all of you interested parties.....
i've borrowed a cloner from a friend. it is a 5 gallon bucket with 10 holes (2" i think) drilled out of the top and net cups dropped in each one. then there are discs that hold each clone as the stem hangs into the net pot. (see pics below.)
in this beast i've put:
1x DBP (i think this is gonna be a male, still not sure though)
3x OG to gift said friend
2x WH
2x diesel
2x DWW
it will be interesting to compare the times it takes for the cuts to take roots in the peat pucks vs the hydroponic cloner.
i have also tidied up the mother/clone/night-time veg area.
that's about it for the time being. i hope all is well with everyone. peace.

Not trimming down any of the fans on the clones?? Just curious if it was an oversight or if there was a reason.

just haven't done it yet. i was in a hurry to get some pictures up.
it's interesting though because the clones in the jiffy pellets didn't get their leaves trimmed and they are doing well. the leaves on the others will be getting cut though.

With the amount of water that will collect under the short dome, large leaves touching eachother and the sides are inviting spots for mold and crap to reside. Trimming them shorter won't harm anything, and it'll give a little more room in there.
Not saying it can't be done without trimming, it clearly can. Just a suggestion from my experience with that "type" of cloner
In the end, it's up to you my friend.
Peace

i did plan on cutting the ones in your cloner. i should have cut the other ones too. i just didn't to start with and saw that they were doing fine and said fuck it. i never gave it thought beyond that.

i plan on taking some cuts from them all again, probably for the next two weeks, depending on how fast the cuts root and grow.

I've always been curious, does that set-up require a transplant? since it is in such a small container? Or since you replace the nutes (like twice a day?) it doesnt feel the need to put out more roots to take in more nutes. Either way, lookin awesome.

you don't have to transplant. you are supposed to water i guess about every 2-3 days (as needed of course). so the plant doesn't have to "search" for water/nutes.
you don't have to transplant soil plants really, as long as you water them when they need it. not to mention that the plant will get top heavy and fall over. i'm not recommending this, but it can be done.
thanks for the kind words.

thanks for the heads up vaped! i have transplanted them into 2 gallon containers. we'll see what happens i suppose. i think i might try to go with the organic mix, sounds nice. i think i've decided to stick with some orgranic stuff for the time being, so i can get that really rolling and have a good solid system in place. i'll start dicking with other stuff later as time and harvests allow.
with that being said, i have dropped all of the hempy's on top of two gallons of soil. they all looked rootbound so this had to be done. hopefully the growth picks up here in the next few days. i'll keep everything up to date.

yup, it's a 360 degree spray head. the water pressure from the pump makes it spin around. it's actually a buddy of mines cloner. it works like a champ though. i have a 100% success rate (my only run) as does he with numerous runs on it.

what's good everybody? just thought i would update the log as i have the internet and the time to do so.
i was bored today so i got a nice little bit done.
first, i placed three males that i have into new dirt. two were in hempys so just got the bottoms cut out of them. one actually got transplanted.
secondly, i put a WH clone into the dirt in a 6" square pot. (two days ago i put 1x OG, 2x diesel & 1x WH clones into the dirt as well).
on a side note, i must say the diesel has so far been a pleasure to work with. she's takes to topping extremely well, has nice tight nodes and bushes nicely. it almost grows in a ball shape. it cloned very easily as well. the cuts i took from it had the best roots the fastest by far. she's a keeper for sure.
thirdly, i put 9 more seeds into peat pucks. they were:
3x greenhouse white widows
3x death by purple
2x wrecked homicide crosses with who knows what? it could be the popcorn beans that i was running a few harvests back that hermied. that's my best guess anyway.
1x ba. remember the plants i received from a buddy? a was the nice smelling of the two. i found a bean on it and am gonna run it.
so things are definitely starting to peak up. hopefully their will be some organic stuff in the future for me!
stay tuned!

oh, yeah, you had male DBPs right? did the flowers turn purple for you? mine are starting to get a purple tint. not the actual flowers, but the pods and inside the clusters?
thanks again!

those pics look like the purple wreck......everything about them......except that the mutant genes really came out in the cross....i think i posted it before.....but it will turn more purple.....it starts from the bottom and works its way up.....also, the entire inside of the buds will be purple....they probably will have to go 63-68 days! flush for 3 weeks....somewhere day 49.
the males i used in all the dbp the complete sack were purple.....i mean completly.....i had a male or two that had half purple sacks but the ones i used in the cross were completely purple not a spec of green......looked like little hairy purple grapes!
if it were me and im not telling you what to do......but id just kill all those mutant plants and start some new seeds.......trust me....they cant all be mutants.....what you are looking for is in the seeds....it just takes a little looking! i would waste anymore time growing out mutants! its a waste of space and time! just my thoughts! :hippy:

i hear ya on the mutants killa. the only reason i've kept them so long is because i had the space.....which i am now quickly running out of so i'm sure the other one will get the chop soon too.
i think the DBP male that i have is gonna be all purple too. it's amazing how fast they have turned. i can't wait to cross it with some stuff!
i think i have more WH beans to pop. as soon as the current beans all pop and veg for a bit then i'll pop those. i know the good stuff is there. i think i'm starting to see it already in the ones that just started flowering!

will start with the flower tent:
everything is looking great! the diesel and the WHs have started packing on the pistils already! it was like overnight they had tiny little mini buds!
everything else is chugging along as well. the OG showed female as did the DWW and one of the GWWs.
on to veg:
there are four clones in there. 2x OG, and either two DWWs or 1x DWW and 1x WH. (shouldn't have smoked that WH before coming to post!)
also there are all the beans that i started. two of the DBP are breaking through the soil first. i don't see anything else as of yet.
on the male front:
the DBP is continuing to turn purple in the flower clusters. can't wait to cross this with some stuff, especially OG!
i guess that's about all for now.

lmao! those are two mutants of WH. they got stressed a lot due to a move and many other factors. i'll take all the blame for that. there are some in flower now that just started and more to come. i think the strain has a bunch of potential. they are F1 seeds so there is plenty of variety.

what's good everyone? i hope that everyone had a great holiday! mine was pretty good to say the least. i didn't get much in the way of traditional presents, but i did get a few pair of genes!
and the list goes a little something like this:
super silver haze (SSH)
SSH x white diesel
nirvana bubblicious
nirvana jock horror
not to mention i think their are a few more in the post as we speak! so the genetics are really starting to stack up.
as far as what's happening in the veg room.....
in the veg room their are clones galore! everywhere i look are clones. i'm not even gonna pretend to know what they all are off of the top of my head. some of them are destined for the breeding box! still working out some crosses. any thoughts or ideas?!
of all the seeds i put down one greenhouse WW and 2 of killa's death by purple have popped. i still have 4 more that look promising after having the shell scarified a little bit. the rest i tossed after i checked on them. no worries here as again, there is a back-log in the green room.
for the bloom tent:
everything is going strong. the diesel is really putting on the buds at ~day 23! the WH is right behind the diesel with everything following suit behind them. sorry for not having any pics on hand, but the lights were out when i left the house and with the holidays i haven't had much gardening time.
i'll get some up soon though!
on the male front:
i've harvested both the WH and the DBP pollen and will be starting a few projects just as soon as the clones in flower are about 3 weeeks in to bloom.
i guess that's about all for now. at least all i can think of anyway.
i'll check back in soon!

Im much better, and really looking forward to a great garden this year:thumbsup:. I have some really good genetics to work with and i can get them a head start inside. Also, i can get supplies needed for indoor use i didn't have this go around. I missed the hobby so much i got ahead of myself, which i guess helped the experience, but not a real good idea. I feel pretty confident though, which isn't something iv ever had with this hobby. You and so many other people taught me so much with grow logs, advise and all the reading i have done will make me a bit more knowledgeable this next year.
I have a timer that was sent to me from a good friend, so im 12/12 at about 50 days today. I will try and get some pics on my log in the morning, if ya wanna stop by. Its going to be a great year my friend:thumbsup:
I sure enjoy your grows Shake, as they are always informative and detailed. Of course the pic's are great too, but they only show the experience and no how of the grower:jointsmile:

okay, okay, it's official, i'm the worst log keeper alive. i'll take the flogging later. so what's been going on with me you ask? glad you did. shit's been nuts. here goes a quick lil' update.
okay, first things first, i quit the hempy scene due to shitty pH meter. all the plants went to 2 gallon then 5 gallon buckets. there are currently 2x wrecked homicide, 1x diesel, 1x dinafem white widow and 1x greenhouse white widow finishing up. they should be done shortly they have pretty much all cloudy trichs with amber starting to dot the landscape.
i chopped down 2x greenhouse white widows as they were ready. these (including the ones above) got seeded early on so the yield is for shit. this was an unintentional seeding so i'm pretty upset about this, but learned my lesson.
i've also put all the ladies from veg, minus 2x OG and 1x diesel and the 2x DBP, 1x GWW seedlings. i can't recall the numbers of all the strains but there is 14 plants in flower as of today, with the aforementioned 5 getting set to be chopped.
my sweet pot-bellied pig decided she was gonna munch one of the OG's in veg. i had it sat out to take cuttings and come back to find a 5" nub where a 17" bush used to be. fucking asshole pig! the OG is re-vegging. we will see what happens with that.
i have replaced the hempys with organics. i'm using the biobizz line (biogrow, biobloom, top max) with some biocanna soil. not sure i like the soil, but no where locally stocks biobizz all-mix yet. i think i've got one of the local hydro guys saying he will start ordering it though.
i have also gotten a new pH meter! yeah! it's an oakton eco tester. it cost me $70 bucks locally which is awesome considering it was $25 more on amazon! i'll report back as to how well it works.
i will be running some more hempys as space allows. it should be much smoother with what i've learned and having an accurate pH meter.
not much else is going down as of right now. i'll get some pics today and maybe get 'em posted tonight or something.
good growing!

Ouch! Bloody pig. I've been lucky with pets and ganja plants, I have a variety of animals but none are particularly interested in ganja. Hope your OG is recovering.
Quite like pigs, very intelligent animals. We used to have a couple of Yorkshire Whites or Landraces free ranging on the farm, but never had one as a pet. What's her name?

the pigs name is bossy by the way. and the name is perfect believe you me. she likes to "talk" a lot. very vocal. i'll get a shot of her up with the plants. speaking of, i will definitely take pics tonight as i have to water/feed as so the timing is perfect.
