Question for people who've purchased fans/filters. Did you walk into your local grow shop or purchase online? What do you say to the people in the shop when purchasing a fan/filter? Obviously you want to have some kind of story if necessary, but what are these things used for besides the obvious??

Chances are that if it's a hydro/grow shop they already know...I mean there's a hydro shop by me that even has pics of pot plants in the windows! Just stick to the truth, except the weed part, easier to remember than a lie. Most likely they won't ask you what you're growing, just how big of an area you're using the fan for to help you select the right size. If they do ask what kind of plants say something like lavender that can smell quite a bit hence the need for a filter. I bought my fans at home depot in the bathroom ventilation section and they don't give a crap what you're using it for as long as you pay them for it lol.

Every hydro shop ive ever been to was always careful of what to ask me... probably because they know people get nervous about shopping in person for that kind of stuff. In the case of shopping for a fan, just know the CFM you need for your grow space and they wont have to ask you any questions.

Lotsa organic ferts are pretty smelly-- blood, bone, fish, manure...

I use that excuse.

Then, there's my allergies, and I need an air cleaner to, well, clean the air...

I don't provide any back story in hydro/grow shops. Why bother? Around here the assumption is that everyone coming in is growing weed, so they don't ask unnecessary questions. When I bought a fan and filter I was asked about the size of the space I wished to vent and the sort of temps the fan was going to have to deal with, nothing else.

yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Hydro stores are clued in to the fact that the majority of their clientele is growing pot. and if you have your medical card, then you really shouldn't worry. The people at hydro shops are usually very informative and have great tips for outdoor and indoor growing.

pay w/ cash bro. or roll up to walmart and get those giftcards (buy those w/ cash too)

some people say not to even drive your own car w/ registered plates to the grow shop but you be as cautious as you think you need to be.

i luckily have one in walking distance in a semi walkable neighborhood.

my grow shop person has never in the 4 yrs i've utilized their establishment asked me what anything i've bought there is for. they even give me 10% off and some sound advice.

Haha, that's funny about the car not being under your name. Every time I go to mine, there's always the cars parked in the far part of the lot. To me that looks more suspicious, the only parking lot in the city where nobody is parked by the entrance! I understand the employees parking back there, but I even saw a guy in the back unloading like 30 of the 5gal DWC buckets and a few 50gal resevoir and rolling them up to the front door to trade them...
