I have this idea for a hydro set up that might work. Let me know what you guys think about this.
You can see whats going on in the picture. The plant sits at the top and the mesh thing stops the roots from going down in the nutrient water. And the pump just does it's job pumping the water to the plant.

I'm not sure why a "hydro" system goes to such lengths to keep roots out of the water.
This is the horticultural equivalent of strapping a fat lady into a chair, just out of reach of an all-you-can-eat buffet. :wtf:
Why don't you try it out yourself, and let us know how it works. I'll bet if you lose the screen, pump, and timer, and throw a bubbling airstone in your res you'll do much better.

lol... that is just mean to do to your plants.
The roots would probably find a way to bust through the screen anyways. Roots are very intent on getting what they want.
Funny shit DreadedHermie.

loose the pump?
I understand taking out the mesh thing and let the roots get down in it but isn't the pump a very important part?

If you take out the water pump and add an air pump with an airstone is what he means.
And yes you are right, the pump is very important. Water pump for other types of hydro and the air pump for DWC type, which is what he is suggesting you turn your setup into.
