is there a substitute I can use instead of rockwool? I could'nt find a thread asking this question lol, or do i really need it? If i seedling it in a soil pot so it grows some roots can I transplant it right into the hydroton?

For staring clones and seeds use rapid rooters or peat pellets. They can be washed off or just put right in hydrotron. Better than rockwool.

You could do away with it all really, Just germ the seeds, and stick them right into the hydroton. worked good for me, just make sure they have a good tap root when u place them in.
