I am growing under a 400w metal halide, with a color temp of 3200-4000k. I started it (first 4 nodes) under 100w cfl's. This is true bagseed and I have no real idea where it came from so I have no hint to the genetics. It was the most productive of 50 seeds germinated, so I went with it.

how many you got coming up? I see at least two I think, so that's good, but beware the taller plants are usually males.

The others in the pic were culled as I had germinated too many seeds for what I was ready for.... But,in the later pics in the background, are some recent purple nurple nug seedlings. I couldnt get the strain name from the good person who got it for me, but I hope that the 2 seeds I did get, will have the same personality as the mom when dried and smoked. They are about 2 weeks behind. :hippy:


As far as height, the one in the center is about 14 inches tall and has 9 nodes, which seems pretty stocky from others I've seen on here. I kept it, originally, because it had its 3rd set of leaves when all the others had only the cotyledons :smokin:

Is 9 nodes in 14 inches considered stocky or lanky?

I have 2 purps and they are about 17" tall with about 14 nodes( but I top the fk outta my plants) my two purps are definitely stocky.

Are you planning on LST or topping?

Yes actually I am trying to decide whether I want to LST or top... I think its going to start showing preflowers very soon, but Im kinda stuck for 2 more weeks. I will be gone all next week to Las Vegas, although I do have a babysitter for them, I dont want to put any undo responsibility on them.

Should I top (or LST) now and keep at 18/6? or should I just wait until I get back and then do it?

if they're 10"+ then yes, I would suggest doing both, topping takes more time to see results but it's worth it, and the LST Im sure you're going to like, it's like telling your plant what to do, actually more like giving her 'guidelines'. the way I do it is drill some holes in the top brim of my pot, and then tie a branch to the rim of the pot. just kinda stretching it out so more of the plant can get direct sunlight.

another note: a week after I flip the lights to 12/12, I top my each plant. the reason for waiting a week is the stretching has stopped. After which I try to cut/move my plants as little as possible cause I do not want to stunt bud growth, so after that last topping, I will still LST them, but nowhere near as much as I was when they are in veg.

Well, Vegas was sweet as usual. Now its time to get down to business with my foliage. I LST'd the plant before I left, had a friend adjust them and water while away. I think since Ive left, I have 4-6 more nodes and another 6 inches, now totaling 20 inches in height with 16-18 nodes on the main stalk.
As far as flowering, I know Im ready, but I am going to top it, and wait a few more weeks till I can get a flowering tent built. Will post pics lil later, still unpacking and shaking off the Vegas hangover. :rastasmoke:

OK, sorry so long since i last update... well, the bagseed has grown up all nice and big and has been on 12/12 for 9 days.

looks good. I would LST some more so the lower branches/leaves can get some direct light. yes, you can still lst while in flower, just try not to cut any leaves off. yes, that does look like a pistil! congrats!.

Ok, everything seems to be going great... I got really really lucky and out of 3 seeds, I have 3 lovely ladies. Now I just gotta keep them all happy :pimp:

I wish I had time to post more 'in-between' pics, but things have been going well on my bagseed grow. I switched over to a 4'x4'x6.5' grow tent for flowering the 3 girls.

Just to recap:
I have 1 "big lady" that is totally random bagseed, which was the healthiest of 6 seedlings. Grown in MG and Scotts (which owns MG) Soil mix. Sadly, back then I was just using a few small fluorescent tubes.
At that same time, I found a supply of really really fresh nicely trimmed purple nugs which Im sure was from a local grow op. Someone must have missed a male in the garden, because I was able to get 2 seeds from the oz that I bought. So I sprouted them both in the same pot which was kinda a noob thing to do, but I expected to get one male out of the two... I got twin chicas, which is great, but 2 -middle of budding- plants in one 5 gallon pot drinks a lot of water. And can get very dry, very quick.
Along the way I acquired a 400 watt metal halide, which seems to have helped keep them bushy and short during veg. At first I was really concerned that the spectrum of the metal halide wouldnt yield great results during budding. But Ive added 150 watts of red-yellow cfl supplemental during the flowering stage, and they seem to have responded nicely. I would say they have reacted because of more lumens getting to more budding nodes, than the specific spectra, but this is just my first experiment.

Well, Ive written enough, heres pics and I will post again very soon as harvest time is coming.
