i'm just gettin started. I will get pictures added as i get it going. Built a Bubble Bucket but the one thing i see is that 1/2 the people say to fill the bucket all the way to the bottom of the plastic filter/strainer lookin' thing and the other 1/2 say to fill it 1" under the strainer. My question is... which way should i go? my friend say's to go with 5 - 6 inches under to make the plants roots fight for the water. he also has a drip setup i only have air stones. Can someone help me with this?

It's not so much how high or low your nutrients are in relation to the net pot, but rather where the roots are that need those nutes. If you have the roots 6" inches from the nutes, how are they gonna get to them? They will never grow 6" on their own without your help....and without your help they will die.
The most ideal situation is to have the level of nutes just below the roots, and let the air bubbles wet the bottom of the roots without the roots actually being immersed in the solution. Does that make sense?

just started mine about 2 weeks ago and originally had water just below bottom of basket and bubble splashes kept Hydrotron damp np. Since then have had roots grow out of basket and head towards water so have started dropping level slowly
I'm using 6" basket btw
