View Full Version : Cloning Question

Hi Guys, I have a couple of quick questions. I have three Purple Power plants currently in the second week of 12/12. I had to kill one today because it was a male plant. I have six more Purple Power plants in their second week of 18/6.
I was told that if I clone a plant that is already in the flowering stage it takes up to 6-8 weeks for that plant to be able to flower......but if I take the clone from a plant that is still in the 18/6 light cycle it takes only 1-2 weeks before they are able to flower. Is this accurate? Any information would be extremely helpful.
Also, if I am suppose to take my clones from a plant that is still in 18/6 light, how do I know if I won't take a male clone? I purchased high grade seeds but already out of the first three, one was male.
I really want to become a more productive, efficient grower. I can't be waiting 8 weeks on 18/6 light, I have separate rooms but I have heard cloning makes the timing much easier to control and will produce a big yield, more often.
One last question, is it necessary to but the clones under a dome for 1-2 weeks? Does the dome have to be anything special or can I just use anything to cover them?? Any ideas or help would be HUGE!!

That information, (though a tad exaggerated), is basically accurate.

Outside of morphology based guesses, you don't!
So, take at least 2 from each plant, but label them identifying the donor.
Then you'll know which "clones" to keep, yah?:)

You have heard right.

I don't use a dome, (high humudity here), so, can't say.
I can say, give them low light, and change their water often.
The only other advice I can add is, pay attention to the donor.
Time the cuts for the beginning of a growth spurt.
About an hour after watering is usually good.
I'm thinking that I might try taking cuttings, in the middle of their night, just before light's on in the morning, at noon and in the evening for a little side by side test on the effects of the timing of the cut.:weedpoke:
Then we'll all know a little more, yah?:hippy:
Aloha.

Thanks for the response Weezard.........do you know how long I would need to wait if I take a clone from a female two weeks into 12/12 before I can put it back on 12/12??
I am just wondering......because if you clone on a continuous basis and you have to take the clones before you know the sex of the plants.......it seems like it is up in the air on how the clones will turn out. You will never know for sure......I almost rather wait until I know the sex of the plant for sure before I take the clones.....at least then I know it's from a good source......no?? Would the clone really need 8 weeks on 18/6???
I am a newbie to clones but I want to learn more. Thanks for all the feedback...I really appreciate it!

if the clone can root you can flower it and it will show sex before the doner does that way any males can be chopped

Thanks smokers, that makes a lot of sense......how long should the clone be under 18/6 before moving to 12/12?? Thanks again!!

long enough for it to establish roots and get the desired height

If you have height limitations, keep in mind that they will stretch when switched to 12/12.
Sativas can more than double in size!
So, veg to about half the desired finish size, yah?
